"Give me a little time to prove my innocence," Aaron pleaded.
"It turns out there's a traitor among us! Fire this person immediately!" one of the board members shouted.
"Agreed, I don't want a traitor to be let off the hook. Throw him in jail!" another member exclaimed.
"My uncle really didn't do it, please believe me." Aaron began to despair.
"Mr. President, please give Aaron a chance to defend himself. Maybe he was framed. I can testify that he works hard and is highly loyal to this company," Jimmy tried to defend Aaron.
"The evidence is clear. Aaron may be my nephew, but as the head of the company, I must be fair and listen to the board's wishes," Robert declared, showing his authority as the company's top leader.
Everyone fell silent, waiting for Robert's next words, making Aaron feel even smaller.
"But I cannot report Aaron to the police and send him to jail because the media will find out, and that could negatively impact this company. As his punishment, he is blacklisted from any company, and I will revoke all the facilities he has used. Let him become a bum on the streets!" Robert asserted. The entire board agreed.
"Uncle, you can't possibly do this, right?" Aaron looked at him in disbelief.
"Lucas, call the guards and have him removed from this building," Robert ordered, ignoring Aaron's words.
Lucas sneered, grabbed Aaron by the collar, and shoved him towards the door. Despite the pain, Aaron kept trying to explain.
"For God's sake, I didn't commit that crime, please believe me," Aaron said as he was dragged out. No one cared; everyone looked away except Jimmy.
"Because of you, my father's company nearly went bankrupt. I will never forgive you!" Lucas declared.
Like a suspect, Aaron was forcibly dragged out by two guards. He tried to resist, but it was futile.
Aaron stared blankly at the skyscraper with "Alpha Black Real Estate" written on it. He used to be so proud to work for his uncle's, but now everything had changed in an instant.
"Why did it turn out like this?" Suddenly, Aaron felt an overwhelming sadness at the bitter reality that had struck him.
The ringing phone broke Aaron's focus. He quickly reached for the slim device and touched the green icon to answer the call.
"Are you still there, Aaron?" Jimmy asked.
"Jimmy, I don't understand why this is happening suddenly?" Aaron replied, his voice trembling. He couldn't just stand there, but his feet began to move aimlessly.
"I'm sorry I couldn't do much to help earlier. Now, calm down and rest at my apartment. We'll talk after I deal with things here," Jimmy said on the other end of the line.
"Okay, Jimmy," Aaron nodded.
As night fell, Aaron sat on the cold sofa. His sanity was only half intact, his mind filled with questions about who had framed him.
The sound of the smart lock opening made Aaron sit up as he recognized who was coming in.
"Jimmy," Aaron said softly.
"Are you okay? You must be very hurt by what happened earlier, right?" Jimmy asked as he sat next to him.
"It's okay. Thank you for still believing in me, Jimmy," Aaron said, bowing his head with a bitter smile, grateful that Jimmy trusted him.
"Of course I believe you. We've been friends for a long time, since you were fifteen," Jimmy said. Aaron weakly nodded.
"About earlier, I feel like it was just a dream. If only my uncle and Lucas had listened to my explanation, none of this would have happened," Aaron remarked.
"It seems it will be hard for you to convince Mr. Robert and the board because Lucas found the evidence himself," Jimmy explained.
"Where did Lucas find that evidence?" Aaron asked, puzzled.
"Lucas checked the problematic data, and when traced, it came from your computer," Jimmy explained.
"Since when did he dare to tamper with my personal belongings?" Aaron muttered angrily.
"Do you think someone deliberately set me up?" Aaron speculated after hearing Jimmy's words.
"Maybe, but what motive would that person have to do this to you?" Jimmy wondered.
"This is frustrating. I have nothing now; everything has been seized by the company," Aaron said, running his hands over his face.
"Don't worry, I'll help you as much as I can. Stay here until we find a solution." Jimmy continued to comfort Aaron so he wouldn't feel alone.
"Maybe just for a while, because I can't keep troubling you, Jimmy," Aaron remarked.
"No matter what, I'll help you. No negotiation. Now let's eat first and then think about other things," Jimmy insisted. Aaron nodded.
A week after the unpleasant incident, Aaron could do nothing to refute all the accusations. He tried everything, even humbling himself by returning to Alpha Black Company, but all he received were insults.
"Jimmy, I can't keep staying in your apartment," Aaron spoke up during dinner.
"I don't mind, but are you okay? I should be comforting you more, but I've been busy working late," Jimmy said, worried.
"I'm fine." After saying that, Aaron fell silent, thinking.
"I think I need your help again," Aaron added.
"Just say it, don't hesitate. I'll do my best," Jimmy said sincerely.
"I want to go somewhere far away," Aaron revealed seriously, causing Jimmy to furrow his brow.
"What? Don't do anything stupid!" Jimmy exclaimed.
"But, it's the only solution right now," Aaron said firmly.
Jimmy took a deep breath and sighed.
"Alright. But where do you want to go?" Jimmy asked.
"I saw on the internet there's a remote place called Grosszerlang village. It seems like the right place for me because it's far from the crowd, but it will take a long journey to get there," Aaron explained.
"Are you sure you want to leave this city?" Jimmy asked.
"Yes, because if I stay here, I will only burden you as I can't work at any company. Maybe by leaving, I can start a new life and find a job," Aaron explained. Jimmy looked closely at his friend's face, admiring Aaron's resilience.
"Don't look at me so deeply, or I'll misunderstand." Aaron turned his face away from Jimmy. Instantly, Jimmy punched Aaron hard in the stomach, making him wince in pain.
"I'm still normal! So, what can I do to help?" Jimmy asked again.
"Lend me some money," Aaron said, embarrassed. It was the first time he had borrowed money.
"Alright." Jimmy finally respected Aaron's decision.
"Thank you very much," Aaron said, feeling happy.
"Never mind." Jimmy patted his shoulder.
