Gibson has loved Jessica deeply. For 24 years together, Gibson has never strayed. However, after meeting Gwen, he seemed like a different person. Unbeknownst to himself, Gibson began to develop feelings for Gwen. Jessica didn't notice any overt changes in Gibson's behavior, but she felt he became busier than usual and spent less time with her. However, this only bothered Jessica a little because she understood her husband's goals very well. That night, the conversation between Gibson and Gwen finally ended. Gibson, just out of the bathroom, found his wife fast asleep. He lay down beside her, waiting for a message from Gwen.
"Goodnight, baby," Gwen wrote in her message. Gibson smiled without replying and quickly put his phone on silent mode, preparing for bed.
The next day.
During breakfast, Gibson received a scolding from his father. Gilbert had found out something was amiss with his financial report. Gibson felt frustrated, ruining his mood for the morning. Jessica couldn't help Gibson. Although she tried to defend her husband, her words seemed to fall on deaf ears. Gibson repeatedly denied his father's accusations. He felt his opinions needed to be listened to. Despite Theodor's attempts to defend him, Gibson looked cynically at Elden and Theodor. Gilbert also issued an ultimatum to Gibson, stating that if getting to know of misconduct, he wouldn't receive any position in the company. Gibson became increasingly angry and acted arrogantly in front of Elden and Theodor.
"Mark my words. I'll prove you all wrong," Gibson said, leaving the dining room.
Feeling guilty towards his uncle, Theodor followed him. Theodor tried to explain to his uncle that he still believed in him, but Gibson continued to deny it, accusing Theodor of pretending. Theodor could only remain silent, watching his uncle leave.
Tonight is Naura's piano practice schedule. As usual, she told Frisilia to come early because she hadn't had other activities that day. Frisilia finally arrived an hour early. As they were about to start, Gibson suddenly came home. Naura was very surprised, and Frisilia was sitting in front of the piano, and could only turn and slowly stand up.
"What's going on here? Naura, can you explain this? Don't tell me..." Before Gibson finished his sentence, Naura interrupted. She explained that Frisilia was a friend who happened to be visiting and wanted to try playing the piano. Frisilia, looking awkward, seemed embarrassed.
"Y-Yes, Uncle, I just wanted to try playing it for fun," Frisilia said nervously.
"You're Naura's college friend? Why do you look older than her? Are you a veteran?" Gibson asked, curious.
Frisilia became even more nervous. She didn't know how to explain. Naura took over, and she aptly explained it to her father. Eventually, Gibson believed and let it go.
Naura felt relieved after her father left. Frisilia still needed to understand Naura's situation fully. She wanted to ask more but felt hesitant. Frisilia didn't speak much more and continued her job as a teacher.
Time passed, The lesson session ended. As Frisilia was about to bid farewell to Naura, Theodor arrived. He had just finished work. Frisilia looked awkward, and so did Theodor. Naura then called her brother to greet Frisilia. Theodor seemed shy. It was the first time Naura had seen something different about Theodor. She knew he wouldn't behave like this.
Naura realized something was off with her cousin. She sensed a clear sign of affection on Theodor's face. Naura became more determined to matchmake them.
After the awkward encounter, Frisilia said goodbye. Theodor seemed to want to escort Frisilia but held back his embarrassment. He appeared cold again. Theodor didn't want his feelings to be known by anyone, even though they were apparent to Naura.
"Alright, I'll walk her to the door," Naura said.
"Okay, be careful," Theodor replied blankly. Naura smiled without saying anything and escorted Frisilia to the front of the house.
Meanwhile, Frisilia wondered why she felt so awkward in front of Theodor earlier and why she acted like that in front of Naura's brother. She couldn't understand her feelings and tried to distract herself. She thought it might be expected for her to experience it.
Gibson felt extremely restless since morning. He still pondered over Gilbert's words to him. Upon arriving home, Gibson immediately secluded himself in his study. He didn't even allow Jessica to enter, which made her worried.
"I should ask Gwen," Gibson said and immediately grabbed his phone to call her. Gibson had a long conversation with Gwen. Jessica, feeling anxious, tried to bring dinner to Gibson. She knocked on the door several times, but Gibson didn't open it. Jessica became even more worried. She kept calling out to her husband to open the door. With no response, Jessica finally asked the house assistant to bring the spare key. She was afraid something might have happened to her husband.
Jessica got the key. As she was about to open the door, Gibson opened it first. He looked at Jessica with a blank stare. His face looked troubled. It was the first time Jessica saw Gibson looking so depressed.
"What's wrong? I don't want to eat. You'd better not disturb me," Gibson said coldly to Jessica. Jessica could only stare without saying a word. She was still shocked to see Gibson looking so different from usual. Jessica tried to focus again. She began to persuade her husband to rest. However, Gibson responded harshly. Jessica felt like Gibson was a different person. She didn't expect to receive such rough treatment from him. They had never fought before, and Gibson had never been rude to her.
Feeling hurt, Jessica left Gibson and went back to her room. Gibson didn't care about Jessica's feelings and returned to his study to talk to Gwen on the phone.
"Did your wife just look for you?" Gwen asked during their ongoing call.
"No need to ask. Let's continue our previous conversation," Gibson replied, somewhat irritated.
"So, did you make a mistake with your report?"
"Of course not. But I want to do something that will benefit you," Gwen explained.
"What? What do you mean by that?"
Gwen began explaining her mission to bring down Theodor. She told Gibson that what she was doing now would 100% make Theodor lose his position or at least Gilbert's trust. Gibson's mood changed instantly. He felt Gwen was very clever and manipulative, making him like her even more.
Gibson began to realize his feelings for Gwen were deepening. Suddenly, he wanted to meet her, so he asked her to meet him, and she agreed. Gibson then asked Gwen to come to the bar he usually frequented. Finally, Gibson left without saying goodbye to his wife.
Jessica, who had just finished crying and sorting out her feelings, realized she shouldn't let this linger. She thought meeting or conference with Gibson today would be best to work out their issues. She didn't want their relationship to become disharmonious. As she approached Gibson's study, she found no sign of him. Jessica immediately called the house assistant and asked. And it turned out Gibson had left without leaving any message.
Jessica felt even more overwhelmed with guilt. She had made Gibson uncomfortable. She tried calling her husband multiple times, but there was no answer, and her calls were always forwarded. Jessica became even more worried. She wanted to meet her father-in-law, but unfortunately, it was already late at night, and she felt it wasn't ethical to look for him at this hour.
