Ch. 3The Kiss Of Sleep

Lolita's POV

With the way I shook my head, if you were watching, you would have feared it would fall off. “ No, no, no. There is no way I am going to allow you impose yourself into my life. You can't do that.” I vehemently refused.
He paused as though he was going to accept my refusal, “ Technically, I can actually make you do whatever I want by compulsion.” he replied smartly, and then shook his head, “But I am a fair person,”

The last part made me scoff, “ A fair person?” I repeated like what he had said was absurd, “You just killed eight innocent men back in that cave.” I accused, with spite in my voice.
By this time, we had already gotten out of the cave, and we're only a few meters away from where three SUVs were parked. The cars were what my team and I used in getting through and some had left a couple of their belongings still in the cars.
For a second, I remembered the feeling I had when I succeeded in convincing my team to accompany me.
“ In my defense,” he said, pulling me back from my thoughts, “ I was in starvation for over three hundred years. You and your team came looking for a vampire, and you didn't remember to bring blood. Except for the one running through your veins.”
“ If it was blood you wanted, we would have found a way around it. But no way, all you wanted to do was kill them mercilessly. ”
“ No, I am not a merciless killer, and I never will be.”
“ Then why d……..”
“ I had no control over my urges. That's why!.” he fired back, a pitch higher than the way he usually spoke.
For the first time, he wasn't smiling and I knew I had made him angry. We stayed silent for another two seconds before he spoke again, “ I have never killed without purpose. I clearly see that those men meant something to you, and honestly……” he paused again, moving toward a car. “ If I had the chance to go back, I would wish things didn't go the way it did.” he replied solemnly.
For some reason, my eyes stayed fixed on him. I don't know. Maybe to find something in his eyes that told me he was lying. Something to make me say no. He even stared back at me, without hiding a bit of his feelings in his eyes.
And the only thing I got was guilt. Remorse. He wasn't lying.
Just then, the sun came out in full fledged, making sure fell on everything under it. That was when I realized the reason he had walked toward the car.
The car was providing a shadow.
“How about I make a deal with you.” he yelled at me, smartly breaking the awkward silence that was about to have occured, “You came to prove that my existence isn't real, which you now know to be true. What if I give you the opportunity to study what a vampire really is. I know it would not make up for the people you have lost or the inconvenience I might cause you in the future.” he then paused and with a shrug, added, “But you have to admit, it's a one in a million opportunity.”
He wasn't wrong. Just the thought of it even got me excited. Proving that vampires never existed was an amazing journey.
But now, there was no way I could deny that this one wasn't enticing.
“So what's your plan?” I asked after another
“ Well, we have to first deal with the problem that is directly in front of us.” I saw his eyes motion at the cars in front of them, I believe you'd have to tell someone about what had happened back there in the cave.”
“ Oh, yes. That's true.” my shoulders fell. So easily, I had forgotten everything. Sighing, I looked at him, “ I will have to call for rescue. But what am I going to tell them.” I asked him.
“ The truth.” he replied, “Tell them everything. Tell them everything you saw. Everything I did. Only leave the part that involved our deal.”
“Would they believe me?”
For a second he paused as though he was thinking. I saw his eyes and mind drift away for a second. When he finally came back, he threw me a nod, “ Come closer to me,”
After debating it in my head, I walked over to where he was, but stopped when I was only a half a meter away.
Precisely where the shadow of the car didn't cover.
And he noticed it.
With a smile so devilish that it made my breath hang in my throat, he said, “There would be a time staying that far away from me would make your heart crushed.”
“Sorry, what did you say?” I heard him very clearly, because he confidently made sure he was audible enough. Still, I asked, and even faked a look that said I hadn't heard him.
“ I said come closer,” he repeated, but left out the part about me crushing on him. The one part I somehow, for some reason, wanted to hear again, “ I promise, I won't bite. Just want to make our story believable.”he assured me.
And with that assurance I moved closer and closer until I was right in front of him. Separated only by an inch or two.
At first, I didn't think much of it. But what happened next made me realize I had gotten too close.
The first thing I noticed was the ghostly smile that curved his lips. Then with that smile, he reached for my face and cupped my chin into his palm,
tipping my head back so our eyes aligned.
And our lips, almost touching.
It wasn't hard for me to figure out what was going to happen next.
Wait a minute, what is this idiot trying to do?, I asked myself.
He dare not try it, I silently warned him.
Yet, I didn't move. Not even an inch. I just stayed right on the spot, allowing his gaze to cause devilish havoc on my senses. Infiltrating my mind, and releasing all my every hidden desires.
Desires I didn't want to reveal.
It was at this point I felt alarmed enough to try and escape.
But the damage had already been done. My body had already given in to whatever his eyes were demanding from me.
My heart was the first to betray me. Then I forgot how to breathe, and air got stuck in my throat again. I even heard a voice in my head say that his kiss would remedy it.
How the hell did we even get here?, I asked myself.
Then with a gentle slide of a finger, he pushed some strands of my hair behind my ear, before sensuously sliding down until he hit the corner of my lower lip, “ Stay steady, this might hurt a bit.” he muttered warningly.

But I swear, what I heard was a whisper. A sexy whisper that hypnotized me into closing my eyes.

Then I felt the sting.
