Ch. 4The Bond and The Gift

Two weeks after Adewale started living with the Martin family, He was enrolled in the same school Adetutu attended. The way Adewale and Adetutu interacted with each other was puzzling to Mr. and Mrs. Martin and the people around them. It seems like they have known each other for a very long time. Mr. and Mrs. Martin couldn’t think through of how such love could be possible between two kids that have only known each other for months.

Uncle James went to see his shaman brother and found out about what is it that is going on between Adewale and Adetutu, and it was something terrifying to him. Uncle James contacted Mr. Martin to meet up with him so he can discuss what it was that he found out about Adewale and Adetutu.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin meet up with uncle James in a restaurant. They exchange greetings and then Mr. Martin asked uncle James ″so uncle James, what is it that you found out about them?″.

″It’s kind of terrifying and hard to believe but I can assure you it’s the truth″ said uncle James.

″Are you trying to scare us or what?″ asked Mr. Martin.

″No, am not. It’s just hearing it might make you both worried″ said uncle James.

″At least let us hear it″ said Mrs. Martin to uncle James, curious to hear what uncle James had to say.

″Okay. I was told that they are lovers″ said uncle James.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin were surprised to hear that and smile then Mr. Martin said to uncle James ″Lovers? If they are lovers nothing is terrifying in that. That thought has also run through our minds judging by the way they interacts″

″That is if they are just ordinary lovers, there are more than that. They are lovers that can’t be separated″ said uncle James, wanting Mr. and Mrs. Martin to understand the matter on ground is more than that.

″I still haven’t heard anything terrifying. Spill out the beans uncle James if there is more″ said Mrs. Martin with curiosity.

″They are lovers that shared one destiny, one heart, and are bonded together″ said uncle James.

″I need you to elaborate more″ said Mr. Martin (confused with Mrs. Martin).

″Every human has a heart that belongs to them but in their case it is different. They both share that one heart that belongs to a human. Instead of having a heart each, they both shared one heart which means they both have a half heart each″ said uncle James.

Upon hearing what uncle James, Mr. and Mrs. Martin find it ludicrous and not true. ″That is ludicrous. Humans don’t share one heart″ said Mr. Martin in disbelief.

″In their case it’s different. It may sound illogical but it is the truth. The one heart they shared makes them to be bonded together which means whatsoever happens to one happens to the other. Just like when they were sick, one felt ill so did the other, so when one also heal the other did. They are also bounded by one destiny and fate. I also found out everything that has happened to Adewale was to lead him to Adetutu because they have to be together always″ said uncle James.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin were shocked by all that uncle James said. ″You have got to be kidding me″ said Mrs. Martin in disbelief.

″Are you sure about the source you got this from?″ asked Mr. Martin, still can’t believe it and finding all that he has heard from uncle James shocking.

″It’s from a legitimate source, sir. What will I gain in lying to you both? I was also shocked when I heard about them″ said uncle James.

″We knew something was suspicious about them but we didn’t think it will be something like this. This is really so shocking″ said Mrs. Martin.

″Yes, but the terrifying thing is the one heart they shared. The half-heart can’t survive without the other half which means whatever happens to the half-heart will happen to the other half-heart. If Adewale were to die Adetutu also will. It vice versa″ said uncle James.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin became terrified, shocked, and worried upon hearing that but they now fully understand why Adewale and Adetutu shared that kind of love with each other. Mr. Martin said to Uncle James ″now that’s terrifying″.

″How did this happen?″ asked Mrs. Martin in disbelief.

″Nothing happen, Mrs. Martin. It’s their destiny. That was how they were created and there is nothing we can do about it than to protect the both of them from any harm that might come their way″ said uncle James.

″You are right. We have to always watch and protect them if everything you said is right″ said Mr. Martin unhappy and worried.

″And not only that we have to take care of them equally″ said Mrs. Martin unhappy and worried.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin went home that day worried and scared but they made a promise to each other to protect them no matter the cost.

A FEW YEARS LATER

It was Adetutu’s 15th year birthday so it was to be celebrated at a beach and whosoever attended the birthday will have to stay overnight. Friends and family were invited, drinks and food were present, and entertainment also filled the air. Everyone came with gifts and presented them to Adetutu, even her parents did except Adewale who did not.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin thought Adewale was just joking when he told them he has no gift to present to Adetutu but he didn’t present any gift to her and that got Adetutu angry. Mr. and Mrs. Martin have to cheer Adetutu up not to spoil her day seeing that she was sad that Adewale presented no gift to her for her birthday.

While everyone was asleep at night, Adetutu sat down alone at the edge of the ocean and stared at it as it come forth and backward. Adewale came to Adetutu and sat down by her side but Adetutu didn’t bother to look at him but kept her eyes fixed to the ocean. Adewale said with a smile to Adetutu ″Hi, birthday girl″.

″I don’t think you deserve to call me that″ said Adetutu annoyingly to Adewale.

″I know you may be angry right now, but you should know I have my reasons for not presenting any gift″ said Adewale.

″Reason? You promised me a gift and I didn’t see one. I was humiliated in front of my friends that I told you were going to be the one to present to me the best gift of all, but you presented nothing″ said Adetutu with anger.

″Am sorry. I didn’t mean for this to happen and I never said I didn’t get you any gift, I just didn’t want to present it in front of everyone″ said Adewale.

″You are sorry?” asked Adetutu weirdly looking at Adewale.

″Yes, I am″ said Adewale sounding and looking pitiful.

“Okay. So where is the gift you didn’t want to present in front of everyone?″ asked Adetutu with a smile.

″You are going to have to close your eyes for me to present it″ said Adewale with a smile.

″Do I have to?″ asked Adetutu not wanting to close her eyes.

″Close your eyes″ said Adewale and she closed her eyes.

Adewale brought out a small box out of his pocket and went to Adetutu’s back then he opened the box revealing a necklace but it was two necklaces. One necklace has a key ornament and the other necklace has a lock ornament but the ornaments can be fixed together into one to make it seem like one necklace that has one ornament but two chains.

Adewale fixed the ornaments into one and wore the necklace on Adetutu’s neck then told her to open her eyes. Adetutu opened her eyes and looked at the necklace then she smiled upon seeing it and said ″It’s so beautiful. It looks like a couple's necklace. It is lovely″.

Adetutu look at Adewale smiling, happy, and excited then Adewale smiled back at her and sat down back beside her.

Adetutu thanked Adewale for the gift but she was also confused why Adewale gave her a couple's necklace as a birthday gift then she asked Adewale ″But why a couple's necklace?″.

Adewale replays Adetutu with a smile ″so you can give one of them to someone that deserves it one day″.

″Okay. That’s nice. There is something have noticed about you″ said Adetutu.

″What’s that?″ asked Adewale.

″You like coming to the beach every holiday, why?″ asked Adetutu.

Adewale smiled and said ″it’s because the ocean is just like me″.

Adetutu was confused to hear that and smirked. Adetutu asked Adewale ″What does that suppose to mean?″.

″The ocean is a mystery just like me. No one knows where it ends or why it tastes salty but what the scientist may define may just be a probability. The ocean is also pure and doesn’t accept waste″ said Adewale with a smile.

″When you say mystery like you what does that suppose to mean?″ asked Adetutu.

″I mean, no one truly knows who I am or where am actually from not to talk of my real name. One more thing about the ocean, it has a lovely scene at night. If you look straight ahead it looks like it touches the sky and like it is closer to the moon″ said Adewale with a smile.

Adetutu looked straight ahead at the moon and smiled happily then said ″it really has a lovely scene at night but you aren’t amazing as the ocean″.

″Ouch that hurts″ said Adewale with a frown face.

″Just joking. You are also amazing″ said Adetutu with a smile.

″And you are also lovely″ said Adewale with a smile.

Can I ask you a question?″ asked Adetutu.

″Sure you can. Even if I tell you not to you will still ask″ said Adewale with a smile.

″If you are to become anything in this world what will you become?″ asked Adetutu, as she look straight at the moon.

″The ocean I guess″ said Adewale.

″Why the ocean?″ asked Adetutu confused.

″Because I will get to move freely and splash water on humans″ said Adewale with a smile.

Adetutu smiled and said ″that’s funny. But you should know you are not a mystery because you now have a new life and family″.

″Yeah, I know. What about you, what will you like to become?″ asked Adewale.

″Um...I will like to become a goddess that humans worship″ said Adetutu with a smile.

″Why a goddess?″ asked Adewale, confused why Adetutu wants to become a goddess.

″Not to worship me really. But to make things easy for me by doing all things I commanded and again to have many followers on social media and in the world″ said Adetutu.

Adewale laughed and said ″I will also be taking care of your poo following your command right″.

″No″ said Adetutu with a smile.

Adewale and Adetutu spent the night talking and smiling before going in to sleep.
