Ch. 4Unexpected Surprise

Rosie was awakened to find her bed empty. She took a look around her and realized she was not in her bedroom. Then she remembered what happened the night before. Memories flooded her mind, and she was disappointed with herself for sleeping with a man she hardly knew. Her eyes widened as she realized she had to be home because her parents were probably wondering now as to why she was not at home that evening. She got out of bed and she heard the shower running.

She picked up her dress from the floor and thought that it might be a good chance to get out of the hotel discreetly while Sergio was in the shower. She put on her dress and shoes before grabbing her purse, which she had been carrying all night. As she checked her phone from her purse, she noticed thirteen missed calls from Elvira, nineteen missed calls from her mother, and sixteen missed calls from her father.

Sergio was still in shower when she silently got out from their hotel room. She didn't bother fixing her wrinkled clothing or combing her frizzy hair, just immediately leaving the place with no notice or anything. She arrived at home minutes later after calling a ride-hailing service.

“Roseian Lilliana, where have you been?” Her mother, with her arms crossed, questioned as she entered the foyer.

“I went to a party last night, mother,” she said.

Her mother’s eyebrow raised. “I thought you went to a party with Elvira.”

“I was with her the whole time,” Rosie lied as she felt sweat begin to form on her brow.

Her mother's body language shifted as she nodded, believing her daughter's falsehood tale. Because of her strict parents, Rosie learnt how to sneak out of the house and make up logical explanations when she was caught. Being a good liar saved her from being a disappointment in their family.

“You are right,” her mother agreed with her. “I know that your friend is a party animal and a social butterfly. She must have dragged you in her business because it can be seen on how messy you look right now.”

“I know, mother.” Rosie’s eyes met the ground. “I apologize for making you and father so worried.”

“Your father is resting upstairs because of the distress you have caused him last night,” her mother said with a serious tone. “I hope you will never do this again, Rosie. Especially since you will be getting engaged very soon.”

“Yes, mother,” she responded and then they parted ways.

Two months had passed since Rosie and Sergio first met. She was preoccupied with paperwork and operating the business, which took her mind off him. She spent the majority of her time at her family's business, where she was in charge of the wine production papers. And Elvira and her were sometimes found partying. Her parents were not as restrictive when Rosie was going to parties frequently because, as what her parents had stated, she would be leaving her youth later when she met her fiancé.

“Today is the day,” Rosie said, telling affirmative words to herself, “You can do this.”

The day had finally arrived for Rosie to meet her fiancé. She was terrified but ecstatic at the same time. During those two months, her mother taught her how to be a prim and proper lady who will soon be bearing the name of her fiancé.

She gazed out the windows of their building at the busy street below, with cars honking and city lights glowing. Her red strapped peep-toe heels were clanking on the floor as her steps made way to her office door. She was about to twist the doorknob when a sudden anxious was overpowering her body. Inside the office, her fiancé was awaiting for her presence as what her parents had told her. Then she purposely barged inside before she change her mind.

His back was facing as she entered the office and he was staring outside the window glass, drawn to the ambience of the city. He had a familiar physique that was quite similar to some men she had met. Thus, his hands were buried in his pockets whilst his aroma of mint and wood piqued her attention. He turned around once he heard the door opened and their eyes met.

A wave of shock was evident to Rosie’s face when she realized who her fiancé was. “Sergio?”

“You are… Roseian St. Clair?” His mouth went agape, he felt like he was frozen in place.

Sergio had only known her as Rosie, since that how Elvira introduced her friend to him. He was as shock as Rosie, because they had a one night stand that evening and unaware that they were actually betrothed to one another.

“Roseian… Rosie… Now it makes sense.” He murmured underneath his breath.
