Stefan finally opened his eyes. He blinked to adjust the light entering his eyes.
Stefan saw a large lamp above him. Stefan also knew he wasn't in a hospital because this room was too dark for a hospital room.
Stefan remembered that the last time before he lost consciousness, a woman helped him and took him in a car.
Stefan held the wound on his stomach and shoulder. It hurt but it was much less than before. Stefan looked at the intravenous tube next to the bed.
As he tried to sit up, the door opened suddenly.
The woman who helped Stefan and an old man entered. Stefan honestly didn't know who she was but he wanted to thank her for saving him.
"It's okay, stay in your position. You still need to rest. You've been unconscious for several days, so your body must still feel weak." The woman helped Stefan lie back again.
Stefan was surprised when she said he had been unconscious for several days. Stefan didn't even know what day it was and what time it was. "Thank you for helping me, Ma'am," Stefan said sincerely.
The woman laughed and glanced at the old man next to her. "Am I that old? I'm not married and I think we're the same age. So call me by name, I'm Lena." She directed her hand to shake Stefan's hand.
Stefan reached up and shook her hand firmly. "Sorry, I didn't know you were the same age as me. I'm Stefan, Stefan Prostakov."
"So Stefan, what makes you think I'm older than you?
Stefan had no idea how to answer, so he tried to express what he saw in Lena. "Probably because you wear too much makeup. I honestly don't mean to insult the makeup you wear, but that's what I think."
Lena patted the hand of the old man next to her who had been silent and watching Stefan. "I think I should hire a new makeup artist. Maybe I'll change my style too. My clothes are too old-fashioned, right?" Lena looked at Stefan.
Stefan nodded in response. Lena's clothes were not like today's clothes. She wore clothes like in the 90s. Very different from the clothes that Dasha used to wear, which followed the latest trends.
Remembering Dasha's name made Stefan feel the anger inside him come back.
"I don't know who made you like this, but I know you hate that person," Lena said.
Stefan not only hated Dasha and Robert for making him like this. But he also wanted revenge on them.
"I don't mind if you want to tell me. I'll listen to you and I need to know more about you so I can decide what you can do for me in return."
Stefan smiled bitterly. Even now he owed it to someone else to save his life that was almost taken by his wife.
"I'm a married man. I work as a delivery man with a small salary. My wife is a businesswoman and the heiress to her family's company." Stefan didn't know if he was right to tell this to others, but he had lost it all.
"At first I thought she loved me. But, on her birthday, last night, when I wanted to surprise her at home, she brought a man back who turned out to be her boyfriend. She cheated on me and has been doing it for a long time. She claimed she was just using me and would marry him." Stefan sighed. "I was mad as hell and tried to vent my anger by hitting the man but I ended up getting dumped in the woods instead. And you saved me."
Stefan looked at Lena who had been listening with a serious look on her face. "Ah, so you got betrayed by your rich wife. That's so evil. You even had to get a few stitches in your wound." Lena held Stefan's injured shoulder. "But it's impossible for you to survive when you've lost so much blood and received so many wounds."
Stefan also didn't think he could survive the beatings and stabbings that made him lose a lot of blood. But all Stefan knew was that the pain in his body decreased after the ring he was wearing began to shine.
"Maybe God is still giving me a chance to live," Stefan replied. He felt no need to tell Lena about the ring.
"It's such a coincidence! You were given a chance to live and you should make good use of it, right?" asked Lena enthusiastically.
Stefan nodded. "Yes, I need to be able to prove that I can become even more powerful after she chooses to be with that man."
"I have the perfect solution for you. Be my bodyguard, if your skills are good, I can offer you other things that will raise your status."
"But I can't fight. I don't have any martial arts skills. How can I be your bodyguard?"
"Then you just need to practice." Lena stood up. "You must take part in the selection of bodyguards in my company. If you pass, then you will be the bodyguard who will guard the director."
"What company and who is the director?" asked Stefan. He had to know something anyway so he could make his choice.
"You'll find out once you're selected. It's not a choice, it's an obligation. You must return the favor by following everything I tell you to do. I will guarantee you a comfortable life if you obey me." Lena patted Stefan's hand and the old man walked back into the room.
The old man brought two shirts for Stefan. One formal suit and one sports suit.
"Use them for the selection that will be held in two days. Your wounds were already dry when you went to the selection. So there's no reason for you not to come to the selection." Lena handed Stefan a business card.
Stefan looked at it. "What if I don't make it to the bodyguard you're talking about?"
"Then I'll return you to the forest. Because I don't need anything useless. You must get selected no matter what."
