Grey's POV
I had carefully planned out everything. There was a secret passage that only a few people knew about. Back in the days when my great grandfather was in power, people mostly used it during times of war. I stumbled upon it by mistake, and it was only a last-minute desperation did I see it, and luckily it was able to help me get out of the mansion. When the guard walked into the room, I was gripped with so much fear, and out of impulse I hit his head a little too hard, which killed him instantly. Luckily, his body was not outside, so we could lock him inside the room and find our ways.
There was no time to delay as I did not want it to get to dawn. By 12 am, there will be another set of guards who would be assigned to take over from the other ones. We were always really into this area, and if he happened to see me coming from there and didn’t see them, he might get suspicious and start looking for them right away, even if they hadn’t gone very far yet. I was completely shocked when I heard my father's voice. We all froze at the spot where they caught us red-handed.
“Turn around,” he commanded, and we slowly turned around to face him. Finn was standing beside him with folded arms. I could already guess that he was the one who informed my father about this plan. I did not think I was being watched, but I had my reasons for suspecting something like that. My father would never be awake past ten o'clock in the night.
It was as though he had programmed himself to always sleep at that time, so I felt it was the best time for us to move. But no one would have guessed that Finn was watching us and was fully prepared to inform him about our plan. He seemed very happy at the accomplishment he had made by reporting us.
I moved my eyes from him to Alpha Toot, who, as usual, had a disappointed look on his face. If it were 10 to 8 years ago, I would have been moved by his disappointed gaze, but long gone were those days. I did not care if she was disappointed or proud of me. I did not want to have anything to do with him for whatever reason.
If he was disappointed in me for helping my step sister get away from his wicked claws, then so be it. She deserved to escape this dreadful place and be with the one she loved and wanted to be with. Not forced to get married to someone she had never met in her entire life, and do not know how she was going to be treated by him. Alpha Toot did not care about this.
All he cared about was the alliance he had successfully signed. I wanted to tell Finn that no matter what he did, Alpha Toot was going to kill him from the moment everything was set to move. Alpha Toot was that dubious. He would want to eliminate anyone that might have any sort of info about his life. The only reason I was alive was because I was his son, and he thought I was going to change one day.
It was the same thing I thought about him, but here we are, in the same position, and no change from him, so how could I possibly change? Since he has chosen not to change, I do not plan to change either. I was going to try everything in my power to make sure that he did not succeed in ruining my sister's life. “I want to take her home,” I said, and he scoffed.
Almost immediately, some guards came at us. I quickly readied my rod for action. “If you try to resist, I will kill them, and all your plans will certainly not happen,” Alpha Toot threatened.
I still wanted to try, but then Lavender placed a hand over mine to stop me from trying. I really wanted to try to fight back, but since she wanted me to back down, I was going to.
I dropped the rod and took them away from me. They carried Joanna like a bag of rice and pulled Lavender back to her room. Finn joined the guards to make sure all happened as it was meant to while I glared at Alpha Toot.
“She doesn't deserve the treatment you are giving her,” I said, and he smirked.
“And who are you to say what she deserves or not?” he asked.
“She is my stepsister, and I care for her. You cannot just sell out to someone you do not even know. What if he kills her? What if he does not treat her right? Is that how inhumane you are?” I said, and he shook his head.
“You are really something, aren't you? You think I care about all of that? I do not care if she dies in his hands. All I care about is to accomplish what I want. I wanted to teach you all of this, but you seem to be adamant on being a weakling,” he told me.
“I am not a weakling. I just know who to care about. I just know the right thing. The right thing that you have chosen to ignore. Maybe you are the one being a weakling. You are the one being scared that people are going to take what you care about the most. You need to desist from this path before it swallows you,” I said.
“You will not insult me,” I said.
“Or what, Father?” I said with disgust.
“Or what? You kill me? I've been waiting for you to do that. I have been waiting for you to prove to the entire world that you are a monster. You think I am scared of death? You think I will quiver because you threaten me? I watched you poison people day after day, and most importantly, I watched you poison my mother and act like you wanted to heal her. Despite you saying you love her, you still killed her because of your selfish interest. That is horrible of you. You need to stop all of this before it consumes you,” I said, and he moved closer to me.
“When people cross the line, they get punished. Your mother tried to interfere in my plans, and I warned her. She refused to listen, so she had to go,” he said.
“Then why have you not killed me? I know it isn't because you care about me or you love me. So what is your reason for keeping me alive? Why not poison me? Poison the only son you have, you monster,” I said, and he smiled.
Usually, I would not exchange this much words with my father because I knew it was useless to him but I was frustrated. I have thought this would work, but it failed miserably. I wanted to strangle him here and now, but I held myself back. He was a monster, and he did not even know about it.
“I am not that old,” he said with a smile.
“And I can get as many children as I want. You think you are special because you're my only son, but you should get this. I killed your mother because she tried to interfere in my plans, and I will kill you if you try it again. I will not be lenient.” He threatened, then left me to my burning anger.
