Ch. 55| A Wolf's Attack

Blair tried to run away as fast as her feet could walk.

"I don't want to get involved in any trouble. I didn't see it. I have to get out of here."

Blair had lost too much energy that day from nausea and vomiting too often. She hadn't even eaten the bread and water she had just bought from the convenience store. Just when she thought she had stepped away and headed for the highway to seek help, a man was suddenly blocking her with a dagger in hand.

"Hey, little girl!" said the man while carrying a dagger still covered in blood. "What are you doing here alone at this time of night?"

Blair could only look down to hide her face. They were indeed in a dark area with no lighting. However, a few flashes from the passing vehicles were enough for Blair to see that the dagger was undoubtedly covered in blood.

She was terrified and didn't know what to say. Right now, the only thing she could do was be honest. Blair hoped that honesty would save her.

"I'm just homeless," Blair said quietly.

"Is that true?" the man asked scornfully. He sounded utterly unconvinced by Blair's explanation.

Blair was terrified. She was afraid that they would kidnap her or do something terrible to her.

"Did you see what just happened?" the man asked, turning to look at the drooping corpse not far from where Blair had previously slept on the overhang.

Blair shook her head quickly. "Not! I didn't see anything. I was sleeping, and suddenly I heard a scream. That is it. I didn't see anything. I swear."

The man smirked again and said, "What a lousy attempt. Now I have to kill you too because I'm sure you've seen it all." The man began to raise his dagger, which was covered in blood.

Blair shook her head as she took a few steps back. She clutched her stomach trembling. "Please don't kill me. Have mercy on my baby."

"Baby?" repeated the man with a frown.

Blair stopped with a pale face. "Please let me go. I didn't see anything," She said shakily. "I am pregnant and want to stay safe for my baby's life. I promise to leave this city tonight and pretend it never happened."

The man twirled and fiddled with his dagger in hand. "How old are you?" he asked.

Blair couldn't lie. "Seventeen," she said.

Blair expected the man's mercy if she said she was young. Maybe he will love her and let her go.

"How can a teenager claim to be pregnant roaming the deserted suburbs near the forest like this? You must be lying to us. You must be a prostitute who likes to peddle yourself in the area around here."

Blair was literally crying. She didn't know what to say at this point. Blair could only tell the truth. She wiped her tears and spoke softly.

"My mom kicked me out because I was pregnant. I'm just a bum now. Therefore, sir, please have mercy on me. Let me go!" Blair whined.

The man laughed out loud. "Good. That makes my job even easier. No one will look for you, even if you are lost or dead. I will throw your body into the forest there. Until you become a bone, no one else cares. I'd better end you tonight as well."

The man started attacking Blair with his dagger. The girl dodged just in time and tried to escape in a different direction. But someone else was blocking her behind.

The second man smirked. "If you didn't see anything, why did you run from us?" Said the man who was blocking Blair from behind.

"I beg of you." Blair's legs were completely limp. She couldn't do anything and couldn't run because they must have been faster than her. Blair could not hold onto her ragged backpack and dropped it.

"Unfortunately, we are not saints who would be able to free you so easily. You've seen it all. If we let you off the hook tonight, you will definitely cause us to trouble one day."

The man behind Blair was holding the girl very tightly. While the other man holding the dagger tried to stab the girl in the stomach.

Right then, something jumped at them from the darkness and disappeared quickly. The two men were alert and looking for his thrown dagger. There was a terrifying growl. They all stood stiff and astonished.

"What was that?" said the man carrying the dagger.

His partner immediately secured Blair. He gripped Blair's mouth tightly.

"Is that the police?" asked the man with the dagger. "We are close to the campsite, but why did they come here with their hunting dogs?"

The growl was getting closer and louder. Blair, who heard it, goosebumps. She was sure it wasn't just the growl of a dog but an even more savage and terrifying creature.

"What should we do with this girl?"

"Finish this girl right now, and we run from here!" said the man holding Blair's hand tightly from behind.

The man carrying the dagger then swung his dagger at Blair's neck. However, before the dagger stuck to Blair's skin, another attack came from behind them. The attack this time was not just to frighten them but to actually attack them.

Blair didn't know what had happened. Everything is so fast it's like bits and pieces of a movie rewinding. Blair was stunned. She sat stiffly on the cold storefront with her eyes wide open.

The man holding her hand let go of Blair with a shudder. He backed away and tried to run away when he saw his comrade torn apart by an enormous dark wolf.

"Wolf? How can a wolf of this size be here?"

Torn apart by the wolf, his partner screamed in pain and whimpered for help. But the man watching couldn't do anything about it. He was too scared. He even forgot Blair was a witness to their crimes.

Blair saw how the wolf's massive jaws opened wide and ripped open the dagger-bearing man's neck. In the next second, the man was silent and breathless. The wolf threw the body of its prey, which was torn and covered in blood. The wolf's gaze was sharp and wild. Now he turned to the second man standing not far from Blair.

Blair shivered with fear as she saw the wolf's eyes, which were dark blue and cold. The killer's eye belongs to the wolf. Strong jaws, sharp teeth, and dripping with sear blood. He growled as he walked closer to Blair and the man beside her. The wolf briefly glanced at Blair and then at the man.

Just as the second man tried to escape, the wolf had already jumped at him.

Blair screeched in terror. She actually shivered and started crawling from there. "After this, maybe I will be eaten by that mad wolf. I don't want to die at his hands. I have to run from here."

Blair ran as fast as she could after dragging her tattered backpack and slinging it over her shoulders. Behind her, Blair could still hear the screams and groans of the criminal who had tried to kill her seconds ago.

By the time Blair ran toward the highway, she was already thinking nothing of it. Suddenly a car headlight shone at her, along with the long hum of a horn. Blair was stunned halfway. The car was speeding towards her uncontrollably.
