"Carlos, let her go."
Axel ordered his two men to get out of the way and let Blair go. Blair, ready to fight, finally just quietly walked away from Axel. Before leaving, Blair glanced at Axel and nodded her thanks.
"Ranty, wait!" said Axel. He seemed very reluctant to let Blair go that night. "Please reconsider my offer. Save my business card if you ever change your mind or need help. Feel free to contact me whenever you need it."
"Well, I'll definitely contact you when I have enough money to pay off those debts, for sure."
Axel looked grim, looking at Blair's back as she walked away. The two bodyguards stood near Axel and mumbled something.
"Should we keep an eye on that girl like before, Boss?"
"Not. Tonight leaves her alone. I'm afraid she'll be suspicious and even more distrustful if she finds out that you keep following her."
It was really late at night. Blair had no more chance to find a bed tonight. She returned to the station. Blair had time to pick up used cardboard from the recycling bin and use it as bedding. She lay down on an already deserted station bench.
She held the cardboard that was quite thick on the platform bench. Before lying down, Blair took the blanket and repellant out of her backpack. She rubbed the cream on her face, neck, hands, and feet.
"The thing that's scarier than being attacked by the cold at night is mosquitoes," Blair said, muttering softly. "I won't let these mosquitoes hurt my body and baby."
After finishing her bedtime routine, Blair covered herself with the warm, old blanket she always carried in her backpack. Blair also wore the pack as a pillow. Blair had secretly kept a penknife in her duffel bag for protection.
"Tomorrow, I have to leave this state. I will go to Washington DC, and start my new life there. Washington DC, I know a lot of homeless people there. At least I would feel more comfortable if I mingled with them. No one will suspect me." Blair began to close her eyes.
Only four hours passed. Even though Blair had covered her body with the ragged blanket, she still felt uncomfortable. She couldn't sleep that night. So many questions and fears flashed through her head, and soon, morning would come. The most disturbing thoughts were Axel's face and blue eyes that couldn't be separated from her mind.
"I have to get up before the station attendants come and kick me out of here. They mustn't know I'm sleeping here tonight."
Blair packed her blankets and bedding. Then she rushed to the station toilet to clean herself up. Blair always keeps a small soap bar to clean herself and her clothes.
The girl walked a little wobbly because her back hurt. Sleeping on the station bench left pain in her back and arms.
"But it's still better than sleeping on storefronts and in parks because it's colder there than at the underground station."
Blair took off her clothes and showered as needed in the station toilet. After brushing her teeth, cleaning herself, and filling her water bottle, she washed her clothes.
"What am I doing right now?" thought Blair. "I should have been at school enjoying my youth, finishing exams, and going to university. But look at my face like a 40-year-old woman; very limp and pale. My cheeks are also getting plump because I rarely eat. I have to endure for the baby in my belly."
Blair felt her belly which was slowly starting to bulge.
"I have to go to DC soon. Maybe there I can earn more money. I have to take care of the rest of my savings right now."
Blair touched the backpack she had never left far away. Inside the bag was an amount that was just enough to make the trip all the way to DC.
"Sorry, Axel. I had to lie to you by saying I didn't have a penny. I had to be willing to starve and eat only once daily to raise this money to go to DC immediately."
Blair packed her things.
"I will work there. I will raise and give birth to my child and work hard to atone for all my mistakes. I will atone for all my mistakes to my mother and those who have loved me."
The atmosphere at the station was getting busier. Blair could hear the people outside moving around. Although the station was not as active as the stations in big cities, it was enough to relieve her because she was not alone that day. Loneliness made Blair even more terrifying because a lot of potential danger could come her way.
After cleaning herself up, Blair carefully prepared the savings she had kept in her backpack and went to the ticket clerk. As she walked past the station attendant who was manning the counter, Blair saw a familiar person in the distance. The girl immediately lowered her head and slipped behind the stall selling the morning paper.
A man with a beard on his face was seen looking around for something or someone at the station. That man was the one who attacked Blair in the rest area last night. Blair didn't know the bearded man's partner.
"Of course, he was already killed by the wolves. How could I ever forget that man's face? He almost killed me that night. What is he doing here?"
Blair refused to go to the ticket booth. She watched from behind the newsstand. The bearded man, along with two other men, was seen observing the visitors to the station. They grabbed a young girl's shoulder to check her face every now and then.
"Impossible!" Blair exclaimed. "Are they looking for me? How about this? What should I do?"
Blair glanced alternately at the three men approaching her and the ticket counter. Blair couldn't reach the ticket booth without the man chasing her.
Blair backed away and walked away. One of the men watched Blair leave in a flash from the newsstand. He was sure he recognized Blair and signaled his two comrades to hunt down Blair.
"Damn it! They saw me," Blair cursed.
Blair began running away from the place by slipping through the crowds that had started arriving and were getting increasingly crowded. On platform three, there was an announcement saying the train was leaving.
"What should I do? They're still after me!" Blair kept running while hugging her backpack very tightly. She looked down from time to time to hide among the visitors.
"Hey you, stop right there! Do not run away!" shouted the man chasing Blair.
The other two men who came with the first man started to scatter. They try to hunt Blair from different sides.
The girl had no choice. In front of her was a train ready to depart. The carriage door was about to close, and without a second thought, Blair jumped up. She gets into the train.
The man who was hunting her managed to get Blair. The man pulled Blair's backpack off and threw Blair into the carriage. The carriage door closed automatically, and they drove off.
"Not! My backpack…" Blair shouted desperately.
Blair stood in front of the carriage window to find where the duffel bag was holding. Meanwhile, the man chasing Blair ran along the platform to catch the train going faster.
"What should I do? My savings are all there."
