Ch. 24In Partnership With The Earl of London

While Ashton was waiting on the sofa quietly, Anthony was in the middle of concocting his own drink for a friend he had not visited for a long time. If he remembers, two years ago they last met, after Ashton returned to Edinburgh and carried out his duties as a Duke from two years ago, and they did not see each other again. Ashton was a good friend, drinking buddy, storyteller, and the most trustworthy friend ever when it came to business. They had the business together since they were young, but their envoys both worked on it, so Ashton and Anthony weren't directly involved, so this was a historic meeting back two years.

This problem is certainly a good moment to meet after their respective busy lives. Unlike Ashton, Anthony only had himself and his servants without any parents by his side. Anthony had lived by relying on himself since he was young; he couldn't go around freely even though he had the same adventurous spirit as Ashton—that was one of the reasons why they were so compatible. Ashton often shared his experience going here and there, bringing souvenirs and legends from each place that always made Anthony enthusiastic. When compared to his younger brother, Ashton looks more like a brother with Anthony.

This made Ashton immediately convinced that Viscount Thomas was in his hands after knowing that his co-worker was Anthony, even though they had not yet investigated the search for that bastard man. Anthony strolled casually over to the sofa in his comfortable office, where there was Ashton sitting relaxed with his feet up like at home. Anthony didn't mind it; in fact, he also did the same thing and became free with Ashton.

Anthony took out a cigarette from his trouser pocket and threw it on the table, as if he understood that Ashton would immediately grab it without anger when Anthony's behavior was very impolite to a Duke whose level of nobility was higher than Anthony. They were so calm, it wasn't like they were hunting for an impostor who was hard to find everywhere. While joking, they even seemed pleasant and did not directly discuss the main points of Ashton's arrival there, which also involved the contents of the letter sent by the Duke to Anthony.

“I didn't know this matter would bring us together so quickly. I never thought about finding people and cooperating in catching that bastard," said Anthony.

"I don't understand at least how you know that person. What kind of coincidence is this?" Ashton laughed at their predestined meeting just because of a man's naughty and unpredictable.

"That's been a long time, and there's no way I'm telling you everyone I know, right?" said Anthony as he took a sip of his brandy.

"It's like that, but this man has quite a bit of trouble with you. Shouldn't you be telling me this? Even though I may not recognize the person, it's possible I can help you with my connections." Ashton looked a little disappointed that Anthony didn't mention the problems he was having with Viscount Thomas.

"Losses are indeed very big, but this I don't really focus on him. While looking to get his responsibilities, I'm still doing my other duties. It's been so long that I forgot to tell you, because sometimes I want to forget about it, but remembering how big my loss makes me, I'm still looking for it to this day," said Anthony.

"Okay, I just got it."

"By the way, what made you look for him? You were never deceived by him, but you even looked everywhere for that person's victim to speak up and imprison him." Anthony wondered; of course Ashton should have had a reason for this.

"You remember someone I always missed while I was away exploring Europe?"

"Sir. James Orva's daughter?" Anthony timidly guessed, It had been too long. Anthony didn't expect it to be the same person, so he seemed hesitant to guess. But Ashton's head nod was enough to reveal the truth.

"When I returned to Edinburgh, my first destination was Sir. James's mansion. I found a woman who was always cheerful now locked herself in a slump; she was wronged for what was not her fault. She canceled her marriage to her lover, who was none other than Viscount Thomas. The man instead married another woman because of the scandal they made."

"So?" Anthony asked Ashton to continue his story, not feeling sorry for his best friend, but this is an interesting and complicated story.

"After Viscount Thomas's fraud case was exposed, the man was nowhere to be found even in his mansion. His wife, whom the man married because he had snatched him from Darrellyn, instead blamed Darrellyn and accused him of hiding that bastard Thomas, thinking that the secret relationship between them was still there. Viscountess Eleana caused an uproar. The rumors in the community said that Darrellyn was a bitch who accepted men into her house. Darrellyn was publicly humiliated; Orva's family name was tarnished, including all the daughters, and she came branded as a bitch."

"Damn it, the old tricks never stop. Why do women often use old tricks like this to bring down each other's rivals?" said Anthony.

"What's worse is that Viscountess Eleana has a half-sister, and her half-sister was betrothed by my mother to me. You know I can't fight my mother? At this moment, I hide our engagement, which will be held again, from Darrellyn."

"Damn it, just thinking about it gives me a headache; if I were you, my head would probably be split right now." Anthony shook his head from side to side because he couldn't stop thinking about the problem his friend was experiencing.

"In fact, with all my confidence, I came here. Hoping to stop all the reproaches against Darrelyn, clear the good name of the Orva family, and hope that with this, Viscountess Eleana's sister will withdraw from the arranged marriage after we have proven to the public the corruption of Viscount Thomas."

"I hope I can help you, because I'm also after this person, so we both won't give up on getting it." Anthony's voice was so sure and full of hope, the same as Ashton's highlight, who hoped that Viscount Thomas would be found easily if they were together.

"Then what do you plan to do for our first move?" he continued.

"I haven't planned anything other than scattering through the counties to look for that person. But if you want, we can go to Glasgow together and interrogate Viscountess Eleana first."

"That's a good idea. Some time ago, my people didn't find his wife in the mansion. Instead they met the sister-in-law of Viscount Thomas; it seems that woman is the one you're betrothed to. She doesn't seem to know anything; perhaps it would be better if we went there together." and interrogate Viscountess Eleana directly. " Anthony was so excited. This can also be used as an excuse to go out after a long time of not traveling far and only struggling with work.

"Okay, let's arrange departure."
