Ch. 15Trauma Makers Come To Offer Marriage

That morning, the hot sun accompanied Katherine back to Rowena's house. It was actually still very cold, and the streets were filled with snow, but Katherine felt that she shouldn't leave the house for long to avoid Rowena doing anything to her lover. The house was bought with the money left over from selling the mansion in the past; maybe it has been repaired several times by Viscount Thomas and filled with Rowena's purchased goods; it's just that Katherine still doesn't seem willing if the house, which is mostly the result of her father's sweat, is used to make love every time by Rowena. Katherine entered the mansion; for some reason, the mansion looked deserted when usually Rowena was already busy with her maids drinking tea and massaging both feet with the maids; this time the sight was not in front of Katherine.

Katherine walked through the house, which was quite spacious; some of the maids also didn't, so Katherine decided to return to the front area of the house because she had seen their garden guard before. When Katherine had arrived outside, the garden keeper, who noticed Katherine's arrival, immediately saluted and lowered her head as if not daring to look her in the face. "Have you seen Mother?" The man, around forty-five years old, still looked down even though he was trying to answer Katherine's question.

"Madam has gone to Edinburgh with some of her maids, My Lady." Katherine pensively heard the answer. She was afraid that maybe Rowena was trying to turn the Doweger Duchess Rosella against the relationship between Ashton and Lady Darrellyn because the daughter of the rising baron was Eleana's nemesis, and Rowena certainly didn't want the same woman to thwart her plans to set Ashton up with Katheriene. Unfortunately for Katherine, it might be very embarrassing, like begging for mercy, and her title as an old spinster would only get worse in society if anyone found out.

"Didn't mom leave any messages to you? It's so quiet inside; there's no one I can ask one thing about."

“She only said that she would not be long, just to fulfill the call of the Doweger Duchess Rosella, who called her to come to her mansion. Madam Rowena has also told me not to leave until she comes home; she asked that when Lady Katherine comes home, I have to guard her in front of the house so no one comes in." The gardener's statement made Katherine calm a little because she said Rowena's departure was to fulfill the Doweger Duchess Rosella's call, not to meet her without any invitation.

Katherine was also a little touched because Rowena was now paying attention to the security of the house since her lover had committed an act that traumatized Katherine to this day. That's Rowena; she is the ultimate seductress, the hottest instigator, the most reliable sycophant, and the number one man player in Scotland—it seems she deserves the title, but Rowena has a good side in her, and often this treatment makes Katherine confused about what to do she did to Rowena, loved her or hated her.

Even so, sometimes Katherine really wanted to thank her, but it was very difficult to say it to Rowena in person. After getting the tip from the gardener, Katherine returned to their house, deciding to clean up and get some time off until Rowena returned to ask what business she had going to Edinburgh.

On the other side, Rowena was now on the road, crossing the trees that rose into the woods because there was no other way and the heavy snow would not allow the carriage to go that way. It was getting darker; actually, the sun was so bright this morning, but in the afternoon, the black clouds covered the sky again, and slowly the snow came back down.

On the train, Rowena was a little worried because maybe the blizzard would come again. This was also a place far from anywhere; besides taking shelter in Rowena's cave, her servants would have difficulty getting food, let alone lodging in the middle of a forest like this. “Madam, it's starting to snow heavily. Should we take shelter first?” Rowena's coach gave her information about the situation out there. The two maids brought by Rowena seemed to draw closer to Rowena to give her madam warmth in the midst of the storm.

"Are circumstances permitting us to take shelter?"

"We didn't bring any food; it's time for lunch. We can endure it, but we are worried that madam might need some food.”

“Right, I need lunch. Besides, to avoid damaging our carriage, we must take shelter even if it's uncertain when the storm will stop." Rowena's words became an order for the coachman, but not long after the carriage started, suddenly their two horses neighed, and the coachman stopped the carriage abruptly.

"What is it?!" Rowena shouted angrily at the sudden stop of the train, pushing her hard enough.

“There is a man before us, Madam!” Rowena seemed to be wondering who the man was blocking their journey, while Rowena was still busy guessing she felt the coachman get off their carriage and heard the sound of arguing outside. Rowena wanted to go out to see who was the man who dared to confront them alone when Rowena's carriage had two bodyguards who were quite good at martial arts.

In the thick snow, Rowena opened her carriage window to look ahead. Rowena's eyes widened when she saw the Marquess of Bellshill alone fighting John the coachman with Jeremy Rowena's other guards. Rowena decided to get off the carriage; the strong wind and the pouring snow made Rowena tighten her coat even more.

Behind her,  Rowena's maids came down and escorted her madam for fear that something would happen to Rowena. The Marquess of Bellshill looked so angry that even Rowena's bodyguards were knocked down by him. His gaze finally met Rowena's; with quick steps, he approached Rowena, and it made Rowena's maids scream in fear.

"Why are you blocking my way?"

"You hid your daughter?" The maids were taken aback by the angry questions that were emitted from the man.

"You have no right to see my daughter again. You did something reprehensible to her; you traumatized her, and Katherine never wants to see you again!” The man gritted his teeth; he was angry because Katherine didn't want to meet him regardless of what they did at that time; even if it was a coercion, it seemed like this man couldn't even forget her.

"I will heal her; I will be responsible for my treatment of her at that time; I will marry her."

“Katherine doesn't want to marry you; she has planned a wedding with the Duke of Edinburgh. She is about to become the wife of a duke, so I ask you to forget about your embarrassing lecherous behavior while I haven't reported you to court.” The Marquess of Bellshill's expression was hurt; he wanted to be held accountable for his actions.

He had been drunk then, and when he first came to Rowena's house and met Katherine, he had been attracted from the start. And when that incident happened, the Marquess wanted to find Rowena to satisfy his forelocked lust; he brought a bag of money to pay Rowena, and as usual, the men approached Rowena. However, the Marquess saw Katherine, who had just returned from her sister's mansion, and Katherine had completely removed the man's consciousness.

The Marquess of Bellshill only regained consciousness when he had succeeded in snatching Katherine's virginity. Katherine cried in fear when the Marquess was about to speak up to apologize, and for some reason she chose to run instead of explaining everything when Rowena came home.

Yesterday the Marquess came back to Rowena's house after completing all her duties at Bellshill, but Rowena hid Katherine. The Marquess felt his good intentions to apologize and take responsibility for everything Rowena rejected. The Marquess does not yet have a wife, even though many women in Bellshill are vying to be his life partner.

The Marquess still wants to feel freedom despite the pressure of his family and the people of Bellshill asking him to start a family soon. Until meeting with Katherine made his mind open, he must marry Katherine to be responsible for everything. Moreover, Katherine seemed like a good woman, unlike her mother and older sister, who clearly did not deserve the title of Marchioness for him.

“Can't I just meet her once? I need to explain everything and apologize.”

"Too bad, my daughter doesn't want to meet you even for once." Rowena turned around to get back into her carriage; she also called out to her bodyguards and maids to hurry home instead of stopping their journey and taking shelter in a cave.

The Marquess of Bellshill watched Rowena's carriage pass farther and farther away from him. A feeling of sadness enveloped his heart; since that incident, he felt guilty, and Katherine's face haunted him every day. Even in his work, he was desperate to get it done to meet Katherine soon. For that reason, the Marquess of Bellshill often looked forward to their reunion as if Katherine were also waiting for him.

The Marquess did not realize the feeling of love growing in his heart, which often refused romantic things except for relationships on the bed, until this rejection occurred when Henry Blakeley, or the Marquess of Bellshill, realized that he had fallen in love with the woman he had desecrated.
