Ch. 2Husband’s Second Wife

Kavita gave Deryl a sardonic look.
How nice of him to talk!
“Never mind, the contract with your boss is over. Now it’s time for us to manage the shop, Yura will help you later. I guarantee our married life will be smooth if you can accept each other.”
Kavita turned her head and realized that Yura was glancing at her.
“What are you looking at?” she snapped. “You didn’t think to say a word or two about being my husband’s mistress?”
Yura gasped in shock.
“Vita, I told you that Yura is not an affair-she’s my wife, who is now your sister.”
Kavita folded her arms across her chest, wondering how Deryl could be so sure that she would accept her husband’s second marriage so happily.
“Vita, here’s a drink.” The mother-in-law appeared when the atmosphere was more conducive. “I was looking for you, but you weren’t there ....”
“Did you know that Deryl got remarried?” Kavita interjected.
Deryl’s mother didn’t answer, but judging by her unchecked expression as she looked at Yura, Kavita guessed that her mother-in-law already knew.
“Have a drink first, you must be tired.” Deryl got up and grabbed a cup of hot tea from her mother, then led Kavita to their room on the second floor.
“I didn’t say I accepted Yura,” Kavita says firmly when they arrive.
“You have to accept, you can do it.” Deryl coaxed as he held out the tea. “Drink up, you look tired.”
Tired, of course, even more so after Kavita came home to surprise him and was surprised by the presence of her husband’s second wife in their home.
“Shall we go to bed?” invites Deryl after Kavita drinks her mother’s tea. “I know you miss me, so today I’m going to pamper you completely ... I assure you that my attention to you will not diminish in the slightest even though I’ve added another wife.”
Kavita winces in disgust as she looks at Deryl’s lascivious face as he lies on the bed.
“Look at yourself,” Kavita says coldly. “You think you’re so great because you can remarry secretly without permission?”
“I’m trying to be fair with you,” Deryl argues, taking off his T-shirt. “I promised I’d be fair about everything, including your biological needs.”
Kavita dodges when Deryl tries to pounce on her, the residual sweat on her husband’s body making her feel disgusted and nauseous.
The image of the exciting tussle that had just taken place in her bed suddenly dissolved the love and longing that had been so overwhelming.
“Don’t touch me,” Kavita said, pushing Deryl to the ground. “Tidy up the remnants of your battle with that woman, I don’t want to sleep here anymore.”
“Kavita!” called Deryl, still not satisfied that Kavita wasn’t her dessert. “Come on, don’t be like this. I’m trying to be a good husband by not divorcing you, so ....”
“Fine, just divorce me.” Kavita straightened herself with a gasp. “To me, you have betrayed me.”
“That’s a sign that you’re a wife who doesn’t understand the rules,” Deryl said in a smug manner. “A man can remarry with or without his wife’s permission, whether it’s two or three women, it doesn’t matter!”
“How delicious are you?”
“In fact, a dutiful wife will accept whatever her husband decides as long as it is for the good of the household,” Deryl continued.
“The good of the household? What good do you mean?”
“Anything, maybe you or Yura have children? Yura can also help with our shop business, the more wives the greater the husband’s fortune!” Deryl babbled, acting like a boss who had the financial security that gave him the courage to remarry.
“I’m healthy inside and out, you know that.” Kavita reminds. “I can carry your child, so I think Yura will just be an extra burden because the household expenses will obviously increase.”
Deryl laughs, causing Kavita to narrow her eyes.
“You take it easy, our shop business has gone up so far ....”
“What about your debts?” Kavita reminded.
“We’ll pay them anyway, isn’t the extra salary from your boss more than enough-if not, how could you quit the contract?”
Kavita exhales. It’s a good thing that Deryl has taken on all of her debts, too, which makes it easier for Kavita to plan a way to teach her husband a lesson.
Even if a man is authorized to remarry without his wife’s permission, wouldn’t it have been better if Deryl had communicated with her first before rushing into marriage?
“You don’t need to be so expensive,” Deryl said while showing off his arm that was shiny with Yura’s sweat marks, he pointed towards the back of the head. “Get into position, I’ll satisfy you today.”
Disgusted, Kavita turned and walked away from the tainted master suite.
***
In the late afternoon, Kavita prepares to leave the house she bought with Deryl about two years ago. The installments had stalled because Deryl had been too reckless with an investment that turned out to be a scam and the money never came back.
“Where are you going?” Yura appears, and for the first time since Kavita’s arrival home, she speaks up.
For a moment, Kavita is reluctant to respond to the thick-haired woman’s rebuke.
Yura’s face looks innocent and still.
“Work,” Kavita replied shortly as she stood up from her seat. “You have no thoughts of apologizing or anything for being the third wheel in someone else’s household?”
Yura didn’t change her expression in the slightest, making Kavita’s anger boil over even more.
“Deryl said that a good wife will accept whatever her husband decides,” Yura said in a patronizing tone. “She will always support what her husband does, because the husband as the head of the household knows better what is best for the family members.”
Kavita squints, wondering at Yura’s way of preaching. It must have been easy for the woman to get into her home life with Deryl, because she didn’t have to painstakingly start from scratch!
“Is that what you think?” Kavita commented coldly. “You’re a good girl, aren’t you?”
Yura lowered her face.
“Of course, otherwise there’s no way Deryl would ....”
“How can any good woman want to be with someone else’s husband?” Kavita interrupted with a smoldering look in her eyes. “A good woman would at least think a thousand times about becoming a second wife!”
“Being a second wife doesn’t mean she’s not a good woman,” Yura argued. “I’m being married, not kept as a mistress or an affair ....”
“You could at least get permission first, right?”
“Permission is Deryl’s business, he said you would accept his decision to marry me.”
Kavita’s eyes flashed, Yura was not as innocent as she looked.
