Viana's words triggered an alarm in Brien's heart. He lost his temper and got angry. Out of nowhere, Brien pulled out a knife and pointed it at Viana. “If you can't shut your mouth, I'll shut it for you.”
Viana was shocked. Was this man a psychopath?
The knife was near Viana's neck. Brien's face was fierce.
But Viana tried to remain calm. “Mr. Brien, please calm down. Think coldly. I won't do anything. Therefore, do not harm me.”
Brien raised an eyebrow. “Why? Are you afraid now?”
“Not because of that,” Viana slowly smiled. “Actually, you're the one who should be afraid. You have truly walked into his trap, Mr. Brien.”
Brien was silent for a moment. Suddenly he laughed. “I already knew that.”
Viana tilted her head.
Brien continued. “That man you were with, he was a member of royal intelligence.”
Viana's eyes widened, and her mouth opened slightly. “How do you know? His identity is a secret!”
“How would I know? Hah! I'm always on the lookout if a high-ranking official comes to this area. I will always spy on them.” Knowing he kept a big crime secret; Brien was always vigilant if a high-ranking official came from the capital. “During the party until the end, my subordinates who were spying on you overheard your conversation with that man. As it turns out, the man you were with is a member of royal intelligence! That's when I realized that his purpose in coming here was not to visit but to arrest me! I won't let that happen!”
Viana was stunned. “So, the reason you're arresting me right now is to thwart his plans of revealing your crimes so that you won't be arrested?”
“Haha!” Brien laughed. “By taking you hostage, I can trade you for the evidence he has and then destroy it! Also, he won't be able to do anything to me as long as you're in my hands! Isn't this very much in my favor?”
Viana's heart sank.
So, this was why intelligence operatives always hid their identities during missions.
Once an intelligence officer's identity is revealed during a mission, criminals can look for weaknesses. One example would be like this time, by kidnapping someone associated with a member of intelligence and then using them for personal gain.
Viana was captured as a threat to Rian to stop investigating the case, destroy evidence of the crime, and prevent Brien from being arrested.
This method is so dirty!
Viana sighed. “But you've been fooled on one point.”
Brien raised an eyebrow.
Viana continued. “I am not his future wife. He set you up this way on purpose. Perhaps by now, he's already left with the evidence of your crime. You will still be caught no matter what.”
Brien was shocked.
What?
So, this girl isn't that guy's future wife? He's really playing me!
Brien's body shook with anger.
“So you tricked me! You tricked me!” Brien suddenly roared loudly, then his knife-wielding hand suddenly sliced Viana's arm!
Viana gasped and almost involuntarily screamed in pain.
“You tricked me!” Brien suddenly shouted like a madman. “I can't believe it! I can't believe it! Call that man now! Tell him to come here! Scream as loud as you can!”
Viana winced at the sight of her own arms. She wanted to move, but her hands and feet were bound tightly.
Viana was in pain. The wounds were probably deep. Viana had never been deliberately tortured like this. Her tears seeped a little from the pain.
“Why are you silent? Quickly call that man!” Brien was furious.
Viana shouted. “He won't come for me! Stop hoping! Your efforts are in vain!”
“Then I'll torture you until he comes, then kill you slowly,” Brien's eyes turned red. His body trembled, and he was ready to raise the knife again.
Viana closed her eyes. This man was a complete psychopath! She would be finished now!
Bang! Bang!
Suddenly there was a commotion and shouting from outside the woodshed. Brien smiled broadly with madness and dragged Viana to her feet. He held Viana in front of him with a knife held to her neck.
Finally, the man had come!
The door of the woodshed was suddenly smashed with a bang! A man entered alone. In his right hand was a gun, and in his left was a voice recorder.
Viana squinted her eyes to see the figure with his back to the light. She recognized him immediately and felt half disbelief. “Dean?”
Didn't Rian say Dean was away on assignment in another city? It turns out he was secretly watching her here!
Dean nodded respectfully. “Miss Viana, sorry to make you suffer,” he said and raised his left hand, holding the voice recorder. “It's all recorded here. Miss Viana, you've done us a favor.”
Brien. “What do you mean?”
Dean looked at Brien. “Everything you said earlier unknowingly became reinforcing evidence for all your mistakes. Coupled with the evidence we've gathered before, your crimes are incontrovertible.”
Brien just realized it. Being carried away by this girl's anger, he had unknowingly revealed his plan, which was tantamount to admitting his crime!
Viana smiled, feeling that her sacrifice had not been in vain.
Dean opened his mouth. “Brien Gerar, the financial officer of this area, has committed large-scale corruption and bribery. Not only that, today he has also committed kidnapping to threaten members of royal intelligence and even committed violence against women,” Dean said, exposing his guilt.
Brien's face creased.
“The evidence of corruption and bribery is already in our hands. At first, we simply arrested you for that mistake. But unexpectedly, you committed a more serious crime like this,” Dean continued while raising his gun.
Brien couldn't answer.
Dean's expression was very serious. “Mr. Brien, do you wish to surrender voluntarily or by force?”
Brien brought the knife closer to Viana's neck. “I want to see that man! Bring him here!”
The man in question was Alen, the one Viana had been with during the party.
Dean smiled wily. “You don't even have the right to see him.”
Brien became annoyed. “Then I'll kill her with me!”
The knife almost touched Viana's slender neck. Viana's face was already pale, but hearing Brien's threat, her face became expressionlessly cold.
If I were to die here, I would never forgive that man named Rian forever! I'll carry this grudge until I die!
Just as Dean was about to move, there was a deep, heavy voice from outside the door.
“I've come. Let her go.”
Everyone immediately stopped. Dean quickly stepped aside to make way. As the man walked into the woodshed, Viana raised her head.
Her gaze met Rian's sharp and deep eyes.
Rian...
Oh no, if a member of intelligence usually concealed his identity during a mission, then it could be that Rian was not his true identity.
This man could strategize cunningly, trap others, and was very smart and capable.
Could it be...
Viana smiled slyly. “You have come, Commander of Royal Intelligence, Commander Alen."
