Ch. 4Chapter 4

"I have to work," Selina said, trying to release Adam's embrace who was reluctant to let go. Adam, who always wanted to stick around and was unwilling to be left alone, while Selina glanced at the clock on the wall, which was almost showing eight o'clock.

"I, as the owner of the company, have the right to prevent you from working," Adam said, making Selina feel conflicted. Although Selina could now have everything she desired, she would never leave her job.

"Sir, I have to work. I'm sorry, I have to leave you." Selina planted a kiss on Adam's forehead before releasing her embrace, even though Adam's hand still held Selina's waist reluctantly letting go.

"I have to serve him for a while. How can I go to work if Mr. Adam himself is unwilling to let me go?" Selina pulled back the thick blanket. After giving tender kisses around Adam's body, Selina quickly ran to the bathroom to change into her office uniform that she had prepared beforehand at the apartment and picked up some clothes from her home.

"Selina, what time is it when you just arrived? Didn't you see the office hours?"

"I'm sorry, I fell asleep, so I came late, Ma'am. I will try to ensure this doesn't happen again," Selina apologized, almost an hour late.

"Alright, quickly return to your place. Don't let it happen again."

Selina sat back in her work chair with a relieved expression. "If only I could be free from all my debts, maybe I wouldn't choose to work here again." Honestly, Selina felt pressured, especially working in the same company as Adam. Despite feeling very sleepy, Selina tried not to fall asleep at the office.

"Selina, don't take the manager's words to heart too much. It's normal, she's sensitive before her period," Selina's teammate said, moving his chair to the side of the desk. "How is your Father, Selina? I'm sorry I couldn't come to the hospital to visit. I'm also facing financial problems, so I can't help much."

"No need to apologize, Tania. I should be the one thanking you and apologizing for troubling you."

"Both of you really don't pay attention to work hours, huh!"

Tania quickly moved her chair back to its original position and sat beside the desk.

"You too, Selina. You know it's night shift, yet you're gossiping. If not careful, the work won't be done well. Eventually, you'll have to work overtime at the end of the month? I don't want to see that. You must work according to the set time. Don't let our boss, Mr. Adam, complain about your performance!"

Ratna continued to advise Selina and Tania, who seemed to disregard the time and place for chatting. Ratna left the room after ensuring all team members were working properly and not receiving any complaints from the boss.

The sound of the door closing tightly by Ratna startled Selina and Tania slightly.

"How annoying, my work is almost done, but I'll have to work overtime again. It's so disruptive; if it weren't for my family, I wouldn't want to work here," Tania said, finishing her task. She always planned to resign but ended up staying.

Selina remained focused on her work, although slightly disturbed by the vibration of her phone deliberately placed on the table. It turned out to be a call from Adam. "Oh, what should I do? Should I answer?" Selina just stared at the vibrating phone as Adam's calls had come in almost 25 times, but Selina didn't pick up at all. She was worried the manager would return and be angry due to her lack of focus on work.

Mr. Adam: Don't make me wait, or I'll come to the office.

The threatening and boring notification from Adam prompted Selina to answer the call from her husband immediately.

"Sir, I'm still at the office. It's not appropriate to call during work hours. Let's meet later." Selina disconnected the call before Adam could respond.

"Who was that? Where are you meeting? Oh, calling your boyfriend," teased Tania, raising her eyebrows.

"No one, just a friend who wants to meet."

"Well, it's okay if you want to meet your boyfriend, there's no prohibition. I'm glad you have a boyfriend, so you have activities and don't constantly dwell on problems."

Selina just smiled in response to Tania's words. Tania didn't even know who had just called Selina.

"Oh, nowadays still dating without getting married. It's been 5 months, soon you'll be giving birth," teased Selina's teammate.

"Better to date first than to marry right away and steal someone's husband, oops!" Tania replied, responding to her teammate who seemed to dislike Selina. The words that came out of Tania's mouth surprised Selina. If they knew who had just called, everyone would surely be shocked.

"Don't listen to her, Selina. It's nothing, being a mistress is nothing to be proud of. The first wife is far more valuable and her status is clear compared to being a mistress who is only provided for and eventually abandoned," said another teammate.

Selina quickly left the room, feeling her dignity shattered. Even though the words were spoken by someone else, Selina, who was now the mistress of her own boss, felt incredibly guilty.

As Selina hurriedly walked, she accidentally bumped into someone.

"Oops, sorry, I wasn't careful."

"It's okay."

The woman's perfume scent left Selina in awe. She looked like a model, and Selina had only seen her during work.

"Sorry, Madam! Please forgive my friend," Tania said as she helped pick up the fallen papers.

"You've helped enough, thank you. Oh, is Mr. Adam in his office?"

Selina furrowed her brow, wondering why the woman was looking for Adam.

"How foolish, Selina. You should have apologized. Don't know who she is? Probably because you're too often inside the room and don't know the news outside. She is Mr. Adam's wife, Mrs. Kayla, a famous painter and model who just arrived from America!"

"Mr. Adam has such a perfect wife, but why did he choose me as his mistress?" Selina murmured with a puzzled expression, worried about what would happen if Mrs. Kayla found out about her relationship with her husband.

Selina felt restless and confused by the increasingly complicated situation. Meanwhile, Tania looked at her with a concerned expression.

"I apologize, Mrs. Kayla. I didn't realize I was involved in this situation," Selina said with a trembling voice.

Mrs. Kayla looked at her sharply, making Selina feel even more guilty. "It's okay, Selina. I won't interfere in your personal affairs with Adam. However, I hope you can resolve this issue properly."

Selina nodded, touched by Mrs. Kayla's wise attitude. After freeing herself from the confusing situation, Selina returned to her workspace with mixed feelings. She reflected on how complicated her relationship with Adam and Mrs. Kayla had become. Selina was determined to handle this situation wisely and maintain her dignity.
