"Garlic can help with snake bite symptoms," she shot back.
"Is Sofia being serious?" With a definite air, the male nurse looked at us.
True enough, Sir. This particular line from the book caught my attention: "Sofia keeps giving the prescription and answering the residents' questions at the same time.
The doctor, who had overheard from inside the medicine room, immediately ran to bring a medical drug that was thought to inhibit the spread of venom.
“What are you doing?” the doctor asked.
“I'm just helping the doctor,” Sofia replied casually, then forcibly gave Mahendra a drink even though he was unconscious.
The woman was Sofia, who was accompanying her sick neighbor. Sofia gets permission to go outside the health center for a while and hurries to look for something in the yard.
She remembers that a few months ago, when the village organized planting and landscaping in various places, she had planted onions in front of the health center.
Sofia takes off a couple garlic cloves and quickly washes them under the faucet. Sofia went into the clinic and asked for a tool from the nurse.
Sofia, who has a lovely face, asks the nurse, "What is it for?"
"To mash the garlic."
"Garlic?" The nurse seems bewildered.
Sofia grabbed it as soon as she noticed it on the shelf. She took out an onion, quickly crushed it, and brought it to Mahendra's side.
Sofia placed the garlic on the side of Mahendra's leg where the nurse had previously cleaned the snake bite, without patiently awaiting the doctor.
"What are you doing, Sofia?" The nurse inquired once more.
She retorted, "Garlic can relieve the symptoms of snake bites."
"Is Sofia being serious?" The male nurse gave off an opinionated look.
"True, Sir. I read in the book that particular thing:" answering the inhabitants' questions, Sofia keeps applying the medication.
The doctor was dumbfounded for a few moments before Sofia allowed the man to examine and administer the medicine to Mahendra.
Not long after, Sofia moved away and only stole glances from elsewhere. She was hoping that the person she was helping would soon be safe.
“Do you know him, Sofia?” asks a woman who is tonight's patient.
“No, Mum. I'm just helping from the knowledge I got in the book,” Sofia replied, still looking at Mahendra's room while praying silently for his recovery.
“How noble of you! I heard he's a newcomer from out of town. He came here because his parents wanted the ustadz to guide him to the right path,” said the middle-aged woman.
“What's wrong with him? I mean, why should he be guided?”
“I don't know either. I got the information from Mister Bahari.”
“I see.” Sofia nodded slowly.
She had seen Mahendra yesterday evening in the forest behind the health center. The fruit that fell with the basket was also cited by Mahendra.
“He's handsome, isn't he?” said the mother again while looking at the opposite bed.
Sofia was a little surprised because she was remembering yesterday. “Who, Madam? That boy—the one you just helped,” she replied.
Sofia glanced at her and smiled. She doesn't want to look at the man she helped for a long time. Sofia doesn't want to respond, but her eyes have seen Mahendra's face, which she admits is handsome. Sofia tried to keep her heart and eyes away from adultery.
“Even though he is handsome, I must not have any feelings or pay too much attention to him,” Sofia's mind resisted and guarded her heart from Satan's temptation.
A few hours later. Mahendra woke up. His gaze was still shadowy, not yet focused on one point due to the effects of the venom and drugs in his body. Slowly, the shadows of objects that blended into one were clearly visible.
He observed the surroundings, including the IV pole and also his own hand, which was being fed with liquid from it. “Where am I?” he asked quietly.
Mahendra recalled the incident at dawn, when he was confronted by the snake. The man was approached by Bahari.
“Hey, Dude! can you hear me?” he asked.
“Yes, I can,” he replied briefly.
“Thank God!” Bahari was relieved to hear the latest news. He could have been punished by Razzan if his son had been dying and lost his life. Bahari sat next to Mahendra and helped the man drink.
“Thank you for helping me, Sir!” Mahendra said.
“Not me! I just got the news earlier. According to the information I received, another villager helped you,” Bahari replied.
“It was also a woman who did you a great favor,” snapped the woman being treated in front of Mahendra's cubicle.
Suddenly, the two men turned their attention to her. “Do you mean Madam Fatimah?” asked Bahari.
“Sofia. She helped you this morning very skillfully,” replied the patient, still in bed.
Mahendra frowned curiously at the woman and repeated Sofia's name to himself twice. "How did she assist me? Is she a medical professional? Mahendra enquired once again.
"No! She is merely an additional common citizen. He made use of garlic! She broke it up and applied it to your wound. You were then given the antidote by the doctor. Indeed, we are unsure of which medicine will function best.”
"The doctor did, and so did he," she remarked.
Bahari loud slowly. "Sophia is wonderful. She is one of those bright young individuals, but she no longer has the financial means to attend school. So she only works as a guard at the school library and sells snacks."
Mahendra touched his mouth once before taking a deep inhale. "Sir, where's his house? "I'd like to thank her."
"I can accompany you as you heal." Don't push yourself in the meantime." Bahari volunteered.
“Okay.” Mahendra sighed deeply and returned to his bed.
In the late afternoon, Bahari led Mahendra back to his room. As he helped Mahendra sit up in bed, he spotted the fruit basket on the table.
"Who did you get these fruits from?" Bahari asked.
