"Please let go of my hand, Lady! It hurts..." Indra continued to whimper in pain from Dinda's rough and tight grip.
Seeing this, Dinda quickly released her hand as they stopped under a tree for some shade.
"Sorry, I didn't mean anything," said Dinda trying to control herself because at this time her heart was suddenly beating chaotically.
The situation obviously made Indra feel surprised, especially seeing the look on Dinda's face which turned like a boiled crab! But Indra didn't think too much about it because he was more waiting for what made Dinda come in such a hurry and even drag him.
While holding her wrist, which was slightly sore, Indra shook his head, "It's okay, but is there anything important you want to say?"
Dinda then took a deep breath, regulating her labored breathing until she said, "Well... Papa asked you to come home to dinner with your family."
"What!?" Indra was suddenly shocked by this statement, which no doubt made her eyes round perfectly.
"It's okay," Dinda said curtly, "So what? Can you come with your family?"
Indra was silent for a moment as he shook his head, "I don't know, Lady. At first I wasn't going to tell my mother and sister in hometown because according to the agreement ... this marriage only lasted for one year. So I thought it would be okay if I didn't tell them. And again..."
Indra's speech paused for a moment as if he was weighing things up. It was also a question mark for Dinda.
With both eyebrows raised, Dinda asked again, "And what? Is there something? Or am I underpaid?"
Indra then shook her head quickly, "Ah! N-no, Lady. It's not about the money, but I'm afraid that this will interfere with my mother's health in the village."
Yes! Indra had certainly thought this through, he would keep the mission a secret and not tell his family who might turn around and nag him for impregnating someone else's child.
Seeing the expression on Indra's face certainly made Dinda understand the situation.
"Ah! I see, yes..."
The two of them then fell silent for a while, thinking of something to do so that Anggoro would not feel suspicious. Until Dinda blinked again as if struck by an idea that might be unusual to do.
"I have an idea!" he said, looking excited.
"What?" Indra glared with a frown on his forehead that was beginning to form even though it was faint.
Dinda straightened her seat, a look of enthusiasm on her face even before she revealed her suggestion.
"How about you come with someone else to replace your mum?" she said suddenly, "I'll pay you later."
Hearing that, Indra was surprised again. What was in that woman's mind? To go to such lengths to find a surrogate father for her child.
"But... I don't have anyone here. I migrated," Indra replied with innocence.
The situation was getting more and more chaotic, nor did they have much time until sunset. Truly both of them felt complicated at the moment, they never imagined that things would go out of control.
"I told you it wouldn't be easy, Lady. I also-"
"I'm what, you're just going to back out after it's like this!" chided Dinda in a fit of rage, "You're also the one who suddenly confessed to my dady."
Dinda was annoyed by Indra's sudden retreat as if he was going to leave her alone in the situation. She snorted in annoyance as the wrinkles on her forehead became more and more obvious.
"Ah! Never mind... you can attract anyone to be your mum. Anyway, everything must be ready tomorrow night at 7 o'clock!" Dinda said firmly.
The woman then left without another word leaving Indra standing dumbfounded.
"What!? Sorry!? We haven't finished talking yet-"
"Just take care of it... who told you to run away!" Dinda continued walking while shouting without looking back.
She was very annoyed that Indra, instead of giving her good advice, was intent on ending a charade they hadn't even started yet. Dinda walked with rough steps, even with a mouth that continued to rant and rave about Indra's behaviour.
As for Indra? The man seemed to be rubbing his face roughly, feeling foolish in the situation that surrounded him to the extent that he was able to waste his rest time that he didn't even enjoy properly.
Yes! The confusion continued when Indra returned to work and even when it was time to go home. The man arrived at his rental with a sluggish body and a pale, lacklustre face.
"You've got such a pretty face, you'll get old soon!"
The remark then made Indra a little surprised and immediately turned towards the back. The figure of a middle-aged woman wearing her signature negligee with makeup that always looked excessive was now walking towards her. That made Indra exhale even more, who knows what else he would experience this time.
"Ah!? Mrs. Heni." Indra greeted the woman even as he smiled, "I already paid, ma'am."
Mrs. Heni, who was widening her folding fan, smiled warmly and replied, "Okay ... take it easy! I didn't come out to collect money from you."
"Ah! Thank goodness, Ma'am..."
That succeeded in making Indra breathe a sigh of relief, his smile returning like a withered plant that had just been watered. The figure of the landlord who was always respected by all the residents there, who often avoided Mrs. Heni, including Indra.
Indra was now silent again, his gaze blank as if he was thinking about something very heavy. It also managed to make Mrs. Heni furrow her brow when the woman accidentally noticed the figure of the man who had rented her place for the past few years.
So she asked, "Why are you daydreaming? Got dumped, huh?"
The question successfully blinked Indra's eyes trying to wake up, he tried to smile and then answered, "Ah, no, Ma'am. I'm just tired..."
"Are you sure?" Mrs Heni narrowed her eyes as if urging him on.
The answer certainly did not succeed in making Mrs. Heni believe it even with the look on Indra's face that could not be hidden. For it was undeniable that the two had known each other for a long time. Bu Heni knew very well Indra's character who was always friendly and full of smiles even at all times, but now the atmosphere felt different.
Mrs. Heni, who was already curious, finally took a step forward and sat on the brick barrier between Indra's contract and the other residents. The woman let out a long sigh before returning to engage Indra in further conversation.
"I'm not one to pay too much attention to others, including the tenants," said Mrs. Heni in a tone that suddenly sounded kinder and more polite, "But, Indra ... you having migrated here for several years is certainly not easy. Especially with life in the capital city."
Indra was silent as if he didn't quite understand what Mrs. Heni was saying.
"Tell me ... think of me as your mother even if you don't want to," said Mrs. Heni again which made Indra a little surprised.
Indra was silent for a moment as if he had thought of a crazy idea, he fixed his sitting position and then said, "Ma'am, I know this crazy. But ... can I ask you a favour?"
