Ch. 8Chapter 8

Amanda crumpled up a wedding invitation. She had no idea that the man she loved was married to a woman who had no ties to Nicholas. She grabbed her cell phone and called somebody.

"Get everything you can on Nicholas' wife, whatever it takes, I want all of it!" Amanda said.

She was angry and tore the invitation into little pieces. She couldn't accept it because she thought Nicholas would be better off with her.

After an hour of waiting, she finally received a message on her email. Amanda opened it and grinned.

"I knew they were faking it. What will happen when the media finds out?" Amanda muttered with a plan in her head.

Amanda sent a message with the evidence she had just received. Using a hacker, Amanda managed to get the file proving Nicholas and Sofia's contract marriage.

Sofia's POV

"Nick! Wake up, don't you have to go to the office?"

I tried hard to wake Nicholas up. After being alone with him for a while, I found out that Nick was very difficult to wake up in the morning. I didn't know how he woke up before he married me, but as a wife, I had to fulfill my duties and obligations to the best of my ability.

"Five more minutes!" Nicholas hid his head under the pillow again. I didn't know what time he got home because he went to his friend's club every night and would come home drunk.

"There's not five minutes left! Come on, don't make me feel like a mother waking up her child for school! You're an adult and a CEO, remember that!"

I pushed the blanket to the side and wiped her face with a little bit of water. Normally he'd get angry when I did that, but at least he's waking up early.

"Get rid of your hand!"

See? He woke up right away.

"Okay, I'm sorry. Never do that again. I just wanna tell you that breakfast is ready!"

I left his room, and even though we were married, we didn't sleep in the same bed. That's because I'm just a contract wife for this man. I have to spend my one year in this luxurious apartment, but I can't do anything I want. Like a bird in a golden cage, it's beautiful, but I can't move around freely. But what can I do? I had to do anything to make up for the money I'd spent on my father's operation.

"Next time don't bother to wake me, the company is mine, so it's up to me what time I want to come."

Nicholas's baritone voice made me turn my head, and seeing that he had just finished showering made me truly thankful to be able to stare at God's beautiful creation. It was only a glimpse of admiring his face and body that was so tempting because he would scold me if I was caught looking too long. Like a servant, I wasn't allowed to stare directly at her for more than three seconds.

"Yes, but that's my job here, isn't it? To serve you twenty-four hours a day, whenever you need it, and I can't refuse." I set down a plate of pancakes, half-cooked eggs, and a cup of black coffee without sugar.

Nicholas didn't answer, he was busy with his cell phone and his face turned serious. Not long after his cell phone rang, he picked it up and looked at me sharply. I, who didn't know anything, suddenly had trouble breathing as he tightened his grip around my neck.

"You hurt me ...." I mumbled quietly. It's so hard to speak when your neck is being strangled like this.

"I told you to keep this contract marriage a secret, but see what you did? My stocks plummeted and I lost a lot of money! All my jobs were suddenly canceled. Indeed, you're just bad luck!"

I didn't know what she was talking about, but my vision started to blur.

"I can't breathe!"

Nicholas finally removed his hand from my throat. I coughed, almost dying at the hands of my husband. Nicholas was busy making phone calls here and there and I was like a fool who didn't know anything.

"What happened? Why are you suddenly angry for no reason?"

Instead of answering, Nicholas slapped my cheek so hard that I fell and hit my head on the edge of the table.

"What did I do wrong?" I got up immediately and looked him in the eye, enduring the pain on my cheek from his slap.

"Are you still denying it? See, this is the result of your mouth that can't keep a secret!"

Nicholas showed me his phone and I realized why he was so angry. The news app showed our contract marriage license that had been leaked. I don't know who posted it, but it certainly wasn't me.

"I didn't do it! I am telling the truth! Please, trust me!"
