Chapter 7

Nicolas's patience runs out; at first, he feels guilty and wants to improve his relationship with Sofia, but the woman's behavior makes Nicolas upset.

“Don't test my patience. I've tried to be nice to you, but your behavior is very annoying, you know! I don't like it when you contradict my words! I've given you a lot of money so you should serve me well. Don't think that if I want to marry you, you're not my type.”

“I also helped you get out of that arranged marriage, right? We should be on equal footing. Didn't you say there was no physical contact? Why did you force me to do it last night?” Sofia stared at Nicolas' two beads without any fear.

Nicolas pressed both of Sofia's cheeks using one of his hands; he did not like what Sofia had just said.

“Don't ever think that we are equal. Just so you know, I gave a lot of money to your father and aunt. The day after we got married, they both shamelessly asked for a very large amount of money, they said they deserved it from me.”

“No way! You must be making this up; how could my father and aunt be like that? I don't believe you.”

"Whether you want to believe it or not, it's the truth. Call your aunt now to be sure. Afterward, you must accept that you will be my servant for one year after marrying me. According to the contract we signed, if you refuse as before, it means you broke the agreement and must repay all my money," Nicolas said, looking down at Sofia.

Nicolas gave her the phone and she took it. She wanted to find out if it was true that her father and her aunt had been asking her husband for money. At first, Sofia was going to call Jessica, but she was surprised when Jonathan's name was on the list. Finally, Sofia called Jonathan because she wanted to talk to him.

"Hello, this is Jonathan." Her father answered.

"Dad, this is Sofia. Nicolas said you asked him for money, is it true?" asked Sofia. She hoped her father would say no.

"Um, yes. He's your husband and I'm his father-in-law. If I stay poor, it will bring down his pride, right? He's so lucky if he's married to a woman like you. You're still a virgin, you're beautiful, and you can take good care of the house and your husband. So it's fair that I ask for money for it?"

"How much, Dad? How much did you ask for?!" Sofia shouted at her father. She had not expected that her father would embarrass her in such a way.

"Not too much, just five hundred thousand bucks. I'm sure that's a very small amount for your husband. I can use it to renovate the house, open a shop, and buy this cell phone. You are indeed my daughter, you know how to find a rich man like Nicolas."

Sofia couldn't believe what she had just heard. How could her father demand such a large sum?

"Sofia, why are you silent? I know this amount is too little, isn't it? I should have asked for more."

"Are you crazy? It's like you're selling me to him, Dad!"

"Watch your mouth Sofia! It's--"

Before Jonathan could finish his words, Sofia finally hung up the phone. She was angry and now she felt very ashamed of what her father had done to her. Nicolas, on the other hand, laughed with satisfaction. He had expected that from the beginning. The poor people, as well as Sofia and her family, will certainly be dazzled by his wealth. At the moment, it's only Jonathan, but Nicolas is sure that soon Sofia will show her true nature as well; the woman will be very happy to be married to such a handsome and rich man like Nicolas.
