Nicholas is frustrated after learning the truth that Sofia never betrayed him. He goes to Alex's bar, one of his best friends, and drinks a few bottles of wine to forget his guilt towards Sofia. But what he gets is the opposite, he only gets deeper in remorse.
"Hey, dude! What's the matter, why do you look like you're about to die?", Alex asks when the bar is not so crowded anymore.
"Shouldn't you be happy that you just got engaged to that hot model? Why are you wasting your time here?"
"I broke up with her. I misjudged her, I thought she was the best woman of my mother's choice, but it turned out that the two of them conspired to separate me from Sofia. I wronged her."
Nicholas grabbed the drink but Alex put the glass down so Nicholas wouldn't drink too much.
"Sofia? Who is she? Are you close to a woman other than your fiancée?"
Nicholas shook his head.
"Before I got engaged to Amanda, Sofia was my wife, my contract wife, actually. I met her by chance, and she needed money for her father's surgery, and in return, I asked her to marry me, and she agreed, and then my mother sent me this photo." Nicholas did not hesitate to show the photo to Alex. He believed his good friend could keep a secret because they had been friends since college.
"So what's the problem? You trust your wife, right?"
Nicholas shook his head again. "I divorced her as soon as I got the picture. And I found out that the photo was just a trick by my mother and Amanda to get me to break up with Sofia."
Alex was silent for a moment. He was still looking carefully at the photo.
"I still don't get it. You were only married by contract, and I'm sure your mother did this because she didn't approve of your marriage. Shouldn't you be happy when she asks for a divorce? Especially since you can replace her with a famous model. What's got you down?"
"I wasn't depressed, it's just that I felt bad for not listening to her explanation then. She even cried and said she never cheated on me. In fact, I was the first man to ever touch her. That's why my feelings are all over the place right now. I don't know, I don't understand my own heart."
Alex did not continue. He looked at Nicholas' suddenly changed expression and finally realized something.
"I know! You are falling in love with your contract woman, right? Hahaha... I was right, wasn't I?" Alex laughed out loud. He found it funny that a man as smart as Nicholas was completely unaware of his own feelings.
"In love with Sofia? Are you joking? Of course not! I just feel guilty because I didn't listen to her explanation yesterday and wanted to call her. But she left the cell phone I bought her."
"You play with women too much, so you don't understand what love is. If you didn't have any feelings, you would have been fine when you divorced her. Now you've lost her, haven't you?"
"That's impossible, Dude. There's no way I could fall in love with an ordinary girl like Sofia. She's not sexy at all, she can't dress up, and she doesn't come from a rich family. But..."
Suddenly, Nicholas remembered his meeting with Sofia at a party, when Sofia looked so beautiful and amazing. Nicholas almost didn't recognize her because she had changed so drastically.
"But what?" Alex waited for the rest of Nicholas' words with a smile. He could already guess that Nicolas had just realized his feelings.
"I have to go right now!" Nicholas grabbed his car keys, he remembered something.
"My driver can take you home if you want," Alex called, warning Nicholas.
"Nope! I'm fine!"
Nicholas went home immediately, he had to call his friend who had just gotten married yesterday. If Sofia was there, it meant she knew the bride. Yes, maybe it was the only way to meet Sofia and apologize directly.
"Come on, pick up," Nicholas mumbled while calling his friend, finally getting through after the third call.
"Hey, man. Why are you calling me at this hour? Are you a vampire, huh?" muttered Michael. The man Nicholas was calling.
"Sorry brother, but this is very urgent. Do you remember a guest at your wedding named Sofia?" asked Nicholas.
"I don't remember, you idiot!"
Michael hung up the phone. He called his friend back, but the phone was disconnected. It looked like Mike had turned off his phone as soon as the call was over.
Nicholas wanted to wait until tomorrow morning. He wanted to take a plane to the city where Michael lived. But he felt that he couldn't relax before meeting Sofia. He eventually decided to drive himself out of town so that he could get information about Sofia as soon as possible. Nicholas had contacted all of Sofia's family, but none of them knew where Sofia was. Even his father couldn't answer when Nicholas asked about her. Sofia seemed to have disappeared from Nicholas' life.
Nicholas' head began to spin, but he forced himself to drive out of town for five hours anyway. He finally arrived at Michael's house at six in the morning. He immediately knocked on the whitewashed door and when it opened, he smiled when he saw Michael opening the door.
"Are you crazy, Nick? You're just a phone call away from me last night and now you're in front of my house. What's wrong with you?" asked Michael as he served Nicholas a cup of coffee.
"I'm looking for someone and he came to your wedding. I need some information from you, Mike. About the guests at your wedding."
"I don't know about that. Most people there were my wife's friends. But maybe you can watch the footage of my wedding and find out for yourself."
Michael played the wedding video again while Nicholas watched intently.
"Would you like some breakfast?" Michael asked Nicholas, but he remained silent as he watched the video.
"There she is! Do you know who she is?" asked Nicholas as he saw Sofia walk past the camera. When Michael approached, he felt he didn't know her.
"So she's the one you're looking for? Sorry, I don't know her. But I do know the man standing next to her."
"You do? Who is he?"
The man Michael was referring to was the same man who had come with Sofia. Nicholas felt happy because he would soon be able to see his ex-wife again. For some reason, his heart was pounding, even though he had not yet met Sofia in person.
"If I'm not mistaken, his name is Sam. He is the CEO of a multimedia company and the owner of a charitable foundation. He is also known in the cyber world as a hacker."
So that is why the man could come to the luxurious party. The man who was with Sofia was no random man.
"Can you give me the address where he lives?"
"Sure. I'll give you the address. But what would you do then?
