Ch. 24Run!

Sean Brosnan's POV

The next day, the beautiful angel woke up before me. She greeted the morning with a bright and energetic face; not only that, Briana also prepared a delicious breakfast for both of us.

I felt my life was absolutely perfect. The moment where Briana said she wanted to be by my side no matter what, it really stirred my male soul. Let alone her desire to live in the forest; it was a bit astonishing.

She didn't feel the slightest bit uneasy. With the presence of Briana, an unusually beautiful woman. Beauty like a forest fairy, with tiny hands capable of concocting very delicious dishes, it's like I don't want anything else. Just Briana.

Seeing how excited Briana was to start the day made me unable to spoil her mood. In the end, I chose to follow my heart and give Briana a little time so she could enjoy more cool air before hearing this bad news.

While I was sawing wood, I heard a rumbling sound. My head looked up to see the overcast clouds that covered the previously clear sky. It was going to rain soon, so I was forced to finish my work and postpone it until tomorrow.

I put the machines and tools I was using back into the warehouse. When I'm done, I lock the shed door and enter the house through the back door.

"Anna ...."

The girl I called emerged from the living room with Rocco trailing behind her. "Sean, are you done?" she asked.

I nodded. "It's going to rain soon; I can't continue my work today," I said. "Sit down, Briana; I want to talk."

Briana's eyebrows went up. She sat at the dining table, waiting for me to come to her. I washed my dirty hands and face before I came over to Briana and took a seat by her side.

"What's wrong, Sean? You look worried."
Her question worried me. Briana could read my mind, which was filled with the bad news from last night.

I exhaled softly, "I need to tell you something, but you have to promise not to be sad."

Suddenly Briana's eyebrows shot up. "What are you trying to tell me, Sean?"

I took one hand and said, "Promise?" Briana reluctantly nodded. "Promise," she repeated.

"So, what's up?" she asked, curious.

"Last night I got a call from my friend who lives in New York."

Briana's body stiffened, her eyes looking at me straight and serious.

"He found my family?"

I reluctantly shook my head, "No."

Briana's face immediately turned sad.

"I mean, not yet; I'm sure he'll find your family soon, trust me."

Briana took her hand from mine and placed it on her lap. "So what else did he say, Sean?"

It's hard to say this, but I have to.

"He got some information from your old neighbors; they said that the Tanner family moved from New York in 2018. The bad news is that your parents left quietly because they were in deep debt with the bank and some loan sharks, so no one knows where the Clooney are at the moment," I explained.

Briana remained silent, tears gathering in her eyes. I got up from my chair and kneeled in front of her; seeing her sadness made something inside me die a slow and painful death. I couldn't bear to look at her tears.

"Don't cry; we'll find them soon," I said.

"I wish I knew, Sean." Briana took a deep breath. "If I remembered everything, I would know where they are right now." Briana began to sob.

"Hey..."

"Don't complicate yourself; I'm sure just like your family that we'll find soon, your memory will also recover soon."

My persuasion didn't work at all. Briana continued to cry and cry until I was at my wit's end and could only bring her into my arms. She sobbed even harder there until she felt tired and then unconsciously fell asleep on my shoulder.

I took a sleeping Briana into my room and went to the backyard to get some firewood for the fireplace. But to my surprise, when I returned to my room to check on her, Briana wasn't there. I circled the house in panic and kept looking for her until I found the front door wide open. The wind outside was blowing hard and pushing rainwater into the living room.

My mind stopped working. I looked at the dense forest right in front of me and then mindlessly ran towards it. Damn it, I hope Briana hasn't gone too far!

Through the pouring rain, I shouted her name. I hope Briana hears me even though it's impossible; the rain that's coming down so hard along with the wind that's blowing so hard drowns out my screams. Not caring about the twigs and thorns I stepped on, I kept running through the bushes. This forest was very dangerous for the weak Briana; there were many beasts and slithering animals ready to devour her.

"Anna! Briana!" I kept shouting even though my voice couldn't beat the rain.

Oh my God, where is Briana? I really can't imagine what was going through Briana's mind that she had to go out in such heavy rain.

I was at my wit's end looking for Briana, who I couldn't find. I don't know where she ran; I've even ventured deep into the forest where I've never been before, but Briana left without leaving a trace.

I stopped with my breath rushing out. My eyes looked in all directions, hoping Briana was around, but to no avail. I tried to calm myself down while thinking hard to guess where Briana went, and the first damn thing that popped into my head was that lake. I should have thought of it earlier.

I quickly ran towards the lake where Briana had run away before. It was the only place she remembered in this forest, and it was also not far from my house; at least she was safe there. But it was still raining so hard that she would shiver from the cold if I didn't bring her home.

When I arrived at the lake, I found Briana had fallen unconscious under a shady old tree. I rushed over to her with growing panic and brought her head to rest on my lap.

"Anna! Anna!" I called as I patted her cheek lightly. Briana's eyes opened slightly but then they closed again.

Damn it.
