Ch. 20Turn Back

"Are you so angry?" Briana raised one eyebrow. Her mind didn't agree with what Sarah was saying.

"Of course," Sarah said quickly. "Sean's suffering because of it."

"I disagree about love being blind. Love is not blind."

"Huh?" Sarah gaped. As if she couldn't believe Briana's argument.

"I believe there is no such thing as blind love. Love teaches us how to see, love, and care, not the other way around. Love directs us to a better life and purpose instead of leading us astray in the darkness. When someone loves, they are still able to distinguish between right and wrong. While blind love can only tolerate and allow mistakes to happen without learning a lesson."

"You're so mature. I don't—or have never—felt the kind of love you're talking about." Sarah made a face full of sadness. Although she had never experienced a fatal breakup like Sean, she had never found true love.

"True love?" asked Briana.

"Huum. I think puppy love and blind love are all I've ever felt to this day." Sarah laughed unwillingly. She laughed at her own fate.

Maybe Sean's big family is cursed by blind love, Briana thought in response to Sarah's story.

"Blind love doesn't actually come from the heart but from one's selfishness to possess; he wants himself to be recognized as capable of doing anything for the person he loves so that pride makes him fall after he is dumped."

"That's what I believe happened to Sean. He doesn't love Anastasia. It's just that, as a man, his ego was hurt because his girlfriend dumped him for money," Sarah said again passionately.

Sean was angry with everyone instead of being angry with himself. He lived alone in the middle of the forest and wasted much of his time in loneliness.

"It's not love, Sarah," Briana repeated. "It's just Sean and his wounded ego."

Sarah smiled, "You're probably right," she said. "It's just Sean being blind, to the point that he sees you as his evil ex-lover."

Briana looked down deeply. About Sean seeing her as Anastasia. She couldn't say anything about that.

"Believe me, you're a lot different from Anna—I mean Anastasia. You're a good, sincere, and smart girl, while Anastasia only thinks about money," Sarah continued.

Briana gulped with difficulty. Sarah's compliment made her heart flutter with what she wanted to say. "But Sean always sees me as that woman—Anastasia."

"Then make Sean only see you as Anna. I'm sure you can do it." Sarah winked at Briana. Putting her arm around Briana's shoulders encouraged her.

Is this a blessing? Briana thought. She had the blessing of Sean's cousin. But how is that possible? The mere mention of my name would instantly remind him of his ex-girlfriend. Not to mention the parts of my body that Sean thinks resemble that girl, my hair, my skin, and my voice. Should I die and be born as a new person to be loved by Sean Brosnan? That can't happen.

"I can't, Sarah," Briana whispered desperately.

"You can, Anna. You're Briana; you can melt Sean's rock-hard heart. Don't you realize he's been missing you since you've been here? Fuck the hammer; he came to persuade you to stay in his house again, but he's a cowardly bastard who can't do that!"

Briana chuckled softly at how funny Sarah's face looked when she swore at her own cousin. Sarah was turning into a chatty girl. People who just saw her wouldn't believe she was a doctor.

"Go back to the edge of the forest and win Tarzan's heart, Anna." Sarah's smile grew wider, making a trail of wrinkles at the edges of her eyes. Several times she nudged Briana's arm in an attempt to tease her.

Briana gazed into Sarah's enlarged eyeballs in apparent support.

"Oh my, are you really a doctor?" The question finally came from Briana's lips. "I think you're better suited as a love counselor. You can make those who have just had their hearts broken and are desperate regain their spirits."

"Maybe I can specialize in psychology. How about it?"

Briana gave two thumbs up in approval.

"What I mean is, how about you see Sean soon? Humm ...."

Briana nodded in agreement, and at that very second Sarah drove her to Sean's house, which was far away from the village; his house was in the forest. Briana's heart was beating fast as she saw the man's figure in the distance among the shady trees. As usual, at this hour he was with his wood and tools. But today Sean looked different; his shoulders slumped down as if he had no enthusiasm for work.

The car was parked in the yard of Sean's wooden house. Sarah had left after dropping off Briana and giving her a little not-tik to conquer her cousin. After Sarah's car drove away and out of sight of Briana's eyes, she ran over to Sean, who was working in the backyard. A passionate longing burned in her to be in the man's arms as soon as possible.

Hearing the sound of steps approaching him quickly, Sean turned around, and he was surprised to find Briana running towards him. He dropped the axe from his hand and welcomed Briana into his arms. Time seemed to stop as Briana's body pressed tightly against Sean's hard, sweaty body. Briana wanted to say something, but Sean quickly silenced her lips with a deep kiss.

"Pearl..."

Sean moaned softly inside Briana's mouth. Briana slipped her fingers through the man's thick, wet hair. Sean pressed more firmly against Briana's body and sucked greedily on her luscious lips. Damn, it was hard for Briana to keep up with him no matter how much she wanted to.

The kiss ended with both of them breathing hard and against each other. Sean stared into Briana's eyes for a long time, until his eyes dropped to look directly at the lips that were swollen and wet from his hot kiss.

"You're back." Sean whispered hoarsely.

Briana cupped the firm jaw with both of her tiny palms. She shuddered at the feel of Sean's thumb brushing her bottom lip lightly from left to right.

"I'm back for you," Briana whispered. "I want you to feel what love is really like, Sean Brosnan."
