Ch. 28Secret Box from Nora

Soraya turned and looked at her bag for a moment, before deciding to take out her cell phone. He intended to contact Kevin and ask the man to help find a way out.

However, after finding Kevin's name on the call list, Soraya stopped her fingers and thought for the umpteenth time.

Soraya shook her head weakly, then put her cell phone on the sofa table. Soraya gave up her plans. she had given Kevin too much trouble.

Bringing up this money problem to Kevin could have a negative impact on the man's romantic relationship. And, she doesn't want Kevin to be sad again just because of his selfishness.

Soraya exhaled a long, heavy breath. He was disappointed in himself. Disappointed because they failed to find and punish Mama's killer.

Another heavy sigh escaped his lips as he leaned back on the back of the sofa, then closed his eyes for a moment.

Her tired body and mixed feelings made Soraya's eyes feel heavy.

However, a loud cell phone ringing startled Soraya from her almost-slumber state.

She opened her eyes, then took her cell phone and found Kevin's name on the screen.

Soraya intended not to answer, but remembering how easily Kevin worried about her, Soraya was forced to swipe the cellphone screen, then put the cell phone to her ear.

“How?" Kevin asked quickly.

"I've met him," Soraya answered as calmly as possible, even though the desire to reveal her problem was very strong.

“So?" Kevin insisted.

"He's busy," Soraya lied.

"Busy?" Kevin repeated in disbelief.

“Yes. He said... he was handling an important case. "So... he's not interested yet," explained Soraya as best she could, hoping Kevin would believe her.

“You are sure? What if I try to find another lawyer? "I can ask my other relatives for help, who knows they might have acquaintances," suggested Kevin, offering to help for the umpteenth time..

“No need, Kev. "Besides... I think I intend to ask him again after he finishes handling the case he's currently working on," explained Soraya , not completely lying because he really intended to visit Joshua Andrew when he had collected the money.

“You're sure, Raya? You're not lying to me, are you?” Kevin asked, sounding like he still couldn't believe it.

“Why would I lie? Never mind, Kev. Don't you still have to work?” Soraya said trying to stop Kevin's curiosity.

“We'll have to talk later. "I'll be home at 5 pm," said Kevin, sounding impatient.

“No need, Kev. This afternoon I'm going to Westfield, "There's something I want to buy," Soraya refused as an excuse.

"Hmm, okay," said Kevin after exhaling a long breath. “If you need my help, don't hesitate to knock on my door. Even though Cindy is there, I will try to make time for you. Remember that, Raya.”

“I know, Kev. Thank you very much. "You will always be first on my list when I need help," replied Soraya with a small smile, feeling grateful that someone as good as Kevin existed.

“You're welcome. "See you tomorrow morning," said Kevin before ending the call. Soraya just put her cellphone on the sofa. He leaned back on the sofa and calmed his feelings after receiving Kevin's call. After managing to calm her mind, Soraya decided to prepare lunch in the afternoon.

Soraya got up from the sofa and walked towards the kitchen. He took out a portion of macaroni and cheese from the refrigerator, then put it in the microwave. After setting the cooking time, Soraya took the cutlery and waited for a moment at the dining table. After the microwave dinged to indicate it was finished, he immediately took out the food.

The delicious aroma of macaroni and cheese filled the apartment. His stomach rumbled, responding to the scent. He put the food on the dining table, then enjoy it while thinking about various ways to raise money.

It had crossed his mind to guarantee the apartment to a loan shark. But she immediately erased this crazy idea from her mind, remembering that he would never have enough money to pay all the debts. Soraya doesn't want to be in debt which could result in her being kicked out of this place. She didn't want to lose this apartment. Will never!

It also crossed her mind to ask his superiors for financial assistance.

But remembering how stingy the cafe owner was and the amount he was going to propose, Soraya again scrapped his plan.

After finishing eating, Soraya immediately got up from the dining table and washed the eating utensils.

Suddenly, he remembered mom's secret box. He knew where the box was because his mother had neglected to put it on the bed several years ago.

What is my mother hiding there? Why doesn't my mother let me know what's inside the box?

Is there anything valuable there? Even if there is, maybe I can use it to pay Joshua Andrew , thought Soraya as she immediately rushed to tidy up the kitchen, then went to her mother's room.

Arriving at her mother's door, Soraya was silent for a moment. Since that fateful incident, he never came into this room at all.

The last time he opened it was just to take out one of the best dresses that Mama would wear in the coffin.

It's still fresh in Soraya's memory how beautiful her mother looked when she wore the black dress she chose, even though she was already lifeless and lying quietly.

That was Soraya's reason why she was reluctant to open her mother's room, even if it was just to clean it.

He didn't want to remember those sad moments. He wants to stay strong in order to find Mama's killer.

But now, Soraya seemed to be taken back to that dark time. To the time when she struggled to control her sobs when choosing the dress her mother would wear. The sweet memories of their time together made Soraya's tears just fall. The pain and tightness in her chest made Soraya choose to calm down for a moment.

It took about 10 minutes before Soraya finally managed to stop sobbing. With a heavy heart, Soraya pressed the door lever, then opened it wide. The smell of the room was still the same as three months ago, even though it was mixed with moisture due to never being opened. You could still smell Mom's perfume clearly, as if Mom was still there.
