Ch. 3Chapter 3 - The Furry Little Angel

Jiuyao’s intention was to relieve the sadness in her heart. Now she is even sadder. She still has a mother, but why does she feel like she has lost both of her parents? A mother should be warm, caring, and loving to her child.

Jiuyao looked back at her mother’s contact number on the application on her cellphone, which no longer displayed her profile photo and when she was last active. One thing crossed her mind: had her mother blocked her contact number?

“Wait a minute, I shouldn’t have thought badly. Maybe my mother did delete her profile photo.”

To make sure more clearly, Jiuyao searched the internet for the characteristics of a blocked contact number. Of the several characteristics, all were listed. There was only one thing left that she had not done. Jiuyao sent a short message to her mother. And sure enough, the message only had one check mark. It was clear that her mother had blocked her contact number.

“Why did you block my number, mom? Even without wind and rain, it suddenly happened. Doesn’t mom want to talk to me anymore?”

After a year of her father’s death, her mother started looking for a new partner. Every week there were men who came to their house at that time. At first, Jiuyao felt sorry for her mother, who lived alone without a partner. Especially when Jiuyao was married and had her own small family. Until her mother met a rich and handsome man on a matchmaking application, the man turned out to be a widower who had no children. The man’s ex-wife died of severe bleeding and their baby could not be saved. Their baby died in the womb.

After only one year, her mother and her future stepfather had been dating, then they decided to get married. Her mother and stepfather’s wedding were grand. Many invited guests came to congratulate her stepfather and mother. After getting married, her mother was invited by her stepfather to live in his house, and her mother agreed. Not long after, her mother was pregnant with her stepfather’s child. Nine months later, her mother gave birth to a handsome baby boy like her stepfather. Even though he was not her biological brother, Jiuyao was still happy to have a sibling. Actually, Jiuyao had long wanted to have a younger sibling, but before her hopes were fulfilled, her biological father died. Since her mother got married, Jiuyao has lived alone in the house left by her father. At first, Jiuyao was not used to living alone, but over time she began to get used to it. She did it for her mother’s happiness.

Jiuyao's consciousness returned to reality. "I'd better go out to calm my mind."

Before leaving, Jiuyao closed and locked the door of her house first so that no thieves could enter. Jiuyao tucked the key under the carpet and covered it again with a cloth so that no one else would know.

Jiuyao's current goal was to take a walk. She walked while looking at the scenery in the city. Jiuyao could see for himself that people were doing various activities. Yes, a big city is a city that doesn't sleep, like a big city is a lamp that is always on without any power outages.

Tired of walking, Jiuyao chose to sit on one of the empty city park chairs. Usually, the park is used as a place for couples or families to spend time.

One interesting sight that brought back Jiuyao's childhood memories. A small family consisting of a father, mother, and two children looked happy and harmonious. Jiuyao had experienced that sight when she was a child and teenager.

"May father always be at peace in heaven! Father, don't worry and be anxious about Jiuyao. Jiuyao is fine here!"

"Jiuyao promises to make father happy. Even if father can only watch from heaven. Father, the money that Jiuyao saved from working in a restaurant for college is almost enough. Jiuyao will be enrolling in college soon."

"I know that if father was still by my side, father would definitely be very proud of me. When I was little, I couldn't earn money, but now I can eat and drink from the fruits of my own labor until I sweat."

"Let me guess, father must have said this, my beautiful little princess. Father is very happy with your achievements. Father will make you your favorite food." Imagining it made the girl smile for a moment.

A minute later, the sound of a kitten meowing repeatedly was heard. Jiuyao looked for the source of the sound and found a kitten limping towards her. The kitten had pure white fur with a yellow left eye and a blue right eye. The kitten's body was so thin that the bones in its body were clearly visible.

Jiuyao carried the kitten, then stroked its fur. "Poor White. You must be very hungry? Your body is shaking. Wait a minute, I'll get you some food."

As a cat lover, Jiuyao always brought a pack of dry food for stray cats on the street. The kittens ate the dry food in the form of chocolate donuts greedily. It turned out that there was not only one, there were two more kittens that came. Jiuyao guessed that the other kittens must be the siblings of the white cat. The second cat had orange fur, and the third cat had black and white fur. The two kittens that had just arrived ate with the first cat.

"I'm glad to see you guys eating with gusto," Jiuyao said with a smile. At least today there was still something fun for her.

"I like the three of you and really want to keep you at home, but I can't do it. I have to think about Chaoxing, my roommate and best friend, she is allergic to cat hair." Jiuyao took a sip of mineral water and drank a few sips to moisten her dry throat.

"Chaoxing can sneeze continuously every minute." Jiuyao thought about what plan she would do for the three cute cats. She couldn't let them live on the streets. There would definitely be no one to take care of and feed them.

"I'll leave you with my friend Jinxia. She will definitely take good care of you."

While the three kittens were busy eating, Jiuyao sent a message to Jinxia about her discovery of the kittens. Not long after, a girl in purple clothes and black pants approached Jiuyao.

"Cute kittens," Jinxia said as she stroked the orange-furred kittens.

"Jinxia, I'll leave them with you! You must know that Chaoxing is allergic to cat fur," Jiuyao said to Jinxia when they arrived at Jinxia's house. Jinxia immediately helped move the kittens to a cage that happened to be empty.

Jinxia nodded in understanding. "Don't worry, I will definitely take care of them like I take care of my other cats."

"Thank you, Jinxia. I will definitely try to come here more often."

"Okay. Look, I have five more kittens." Jinxia pointed to the five gray kittens all in a blanket-lined basket.

"Are these Xiaoxiao's kittens?" Jinxia asked, looking in the same direction. She was also excited to see the kittens.

"So easy to guess, huh?" Jinxia put some wet food in Xiaoxiao's cage, which the fat gray cat immediately ate.

"Of course, because only Xiaoxiao has gray fur," Jiuyao said with a laugh. For a moment, she forgot about today's troubles.
