Okay. Matt was completely oblivious to that one. Matt didn't even feel a twinge of annoyance when Avril called him Matty. Matt was only annoyed when Warren teased him. Even though he wasn't popular, Matt had an image that he maintained. All this time, Matt thought he was pretty cool compared to Warren. Warren was just too weird sometimes. In fact, very weird.
Kim too, although not a geeky kid, dressed weird. Kim's emo style is too loud. You can imagine a high school kid walking down the corridor in black clothes, a tartan skirt, boots, purple lipstick, dark eyeshadow around her eyes and eyeliner that makes her eyes even sharper. In essence, in Matt's small group, he was the most normal human. Of course, since Matt took off his hoodie.
Calling Matty is not cool. Matt is not muscular. But, if Matt wanted someone to make up his nickname, he wanted something manly. Something truly male. Matty sounds lame and too spoiled. That's why Matt didn't like Avril calling him Matty. At least, that's how he felt last week.
According to Matt, he might be too happy that Avril is back. Oh, man! Matt missed this girl for a whole week. Can you imagine that? Matt even thought of other reasons, like he was getting used to being called Matty. But, Matt quickly dismissed the thought. Apparently, Matt chose to take the first reason. The thought of him getting used to Matty's nickname sent chills down his spine. Matt looked down to reply to Avril's teasing.
"Aren't you not going to comply, A?" Matt whispered.
Matt's voice in Avril's ear managed to startle the girl. Oh, my! But, Avril was able to control herself as quickly as possible. Avril turned her head and smiled wryly."Looks like you're starting to understand me" Avril retorted.
"Enough to guess that one" Matt replied still looking at Avril.
Warren who saw that felt uncomfortable. They had done it throughout the show and now they were doing it again in front of Kim? Warren cleared his throat until they both came back to reality. Matt gave Warren a disapproving look while Avril acted as if nothing had happened.
"By the way, you look different without your makeup" Avril said. "Looks prettier."
"Yeah. We're even having trouble deciding which one is you" Warren added.
Kim laughed. "Well, it's a shame they didn't allow an emo version of Clara at all. I really wanted one."
Avril laughed amusedly. "I would pay to see the emo version of Clara."
Kim laughed in response to Avril's remark. Matt silently agreed with Avril. Kim looked 10 times better than her with her emo makeup. This Kim looked fresher and younger. So did Warren. Warren couldn't even take his eyes off Kim. Yes, Warren occasionally looked at Avril and Matt. But, his gaze went back to Kim. Warren even noticed the way she smiled. Apparently, Warren had memorized the way Kim smiled and he had even forgotten about the project that was waiting for him at home right now.
"What time do you get off?" Warren said.
"Hmm, actually we're having a meal after the first show. Some kind of celebration," Kim said. "I don't know what time I'll be home. You guys can go first."
Warren nodded but Avril saw the disappointed look on the man's face. What was this? Was Warren starting to like Kim? Just like Warren, Kim also looked disappointed with that fact. Apparently, Kim wanted to go home with Warren but she couldn't leave her crew.
"You did well earlier" Avril said trying to break the silence.
"Really? It's my first time in the lead role. I was really nervous" Kim said.
"I'm impressed. You guys can do so well without any dialog. While we, in the theater, have to play the intonation to attract attention and also convey the storyline" said Avril.
Kim nodded. "I heard the theory about the theater on Monday."
Avril blushed. "That's not what I meant."
"It's okay. But, yes, when you look at us we're just moving. It's hard to imagine that I have to memorize the script, play the facial expressions, keep my voice intonation and what else? The point is, it seems really troublesome"
Avril smiled. "Let's conclude that we have our strengths."
"Agreed!" Kim said.
Kim's crew waved their hands. Kim turned around while holding a bouquet of flowers."One moment!" Kim shouted.
"I think you should go," said Avril.
Kim sighed. "I love chatting with you guys. I really did! But, I really need to get back to the crew. Do you guys want to join the celebration with us?"
Avril, Matt and Warren glanced at each other. It wasn't a good option. But, Avril could tell what Kim wanted. Kim just wanted more time with Warren. The girl had been stealing glances at Warren. Oh, friend in arms! For some reason, Avril felt an obligation to help her friend in arms.
"It's too crowded if we go," Avril said. "Maybe, just Warren should come along. One person doesn't seem to be a problem, right?"
Kim glanced at Warren while holding back her smile. "No problem. But, I'm sure, my crew would be fine with you guys coming too."
Avril smiled slightly. "Sounds good. Unfortunately, Matt and I have to go home soon. I've got Matt to keep me company. Warren, you have to accompany him home!"
"Me?" Warren said. Warren couldn't imagine being alone with Kim. What if she screwed up?
"Yeah. You're not going to make Kim go home alone, are you?" Avril said.
Actually, Kim was used to going home alone. However, the girl didn't say anything. She just stayed silent, hugging her bouquet of flowers while watching Warren with a pleading face. It was hard to resist Kim especially when she was still in Clara's makeup. Too cute.
"Kim" someone shouted behind her.
"Okay, I'm on my way!" Kim said.
Kim sighed. Apparently, she had to bury her dream of going home alone with Warren."Then, I'll go first guys" said Kim.
Avril elbowed Warren. The man glanced at Avril confused and then glanced at Kim who had her back to them. Warren even remembered Kim's face from earlier. Oh well, Warren would do it.
"Kim! I'm coming with you" Warren said.
Kim turned her head and smiled. "Okay!"
Avril pushed Warren and waved him off. Warren soon caught up with Kim and they started chatting. Arriving at the crew, Avril saw Kim introducing Warren to her crew. Warren looked very stiff but Kim broke the ice nicely.
"Alright. We lost our ride" Matt said when Avril turned around.
Avril smiled. "No problem. We can take the bus together"
"Are you sure?" Matt asked. "The bus stop might be a bit far from here."
Avril nodded. "That sounds good. We have enough time to chat. Besides, last week's bus ride was the best bus ride ever. I'm starting to like it," Avril said with a meaningful smile.
