Ch. 5Bad Luck

Matt thought his bad luck was over when he managed to escape from Avril. Matt even looked like a loser running towards the bus stop. Some people even looked at him in confusion. Oh, what a ridiculous sight in the afternoon. Matt just hoped no one would remember his name to make a joke the next day.
Just as the school was rooting for Avril, nature seemed to be rooting for the girl as well. It seems to be payback for leaving Avril most ridiculously because now Matt has to wait for an hour at the bus stop! Matt has never waited this long before.

For God's sake! He's been sweating, running away from Avril, and being a ridiculous loser. Waiting for the bus for an hour was the last thing Matt wanted. But, yes! Unfortunately, that's what is happening right now.
Luckily Matt didn't have to wait another hour. Matt didn't expect his day to end like this. When the bus came, Matt forced his legs to get on. His legs were sore from running around. Oh my God! Looks like Matt made history as the guy who ran around because he met a girl.

Some passengers got on and intended to sit next to Matt. Upon seeing the sweat running down the boy's face, they immediately put on a disgusted face and chose another seat. It felt like the day was getting complete! Matt leaned back against the seat as he drowned himself. Why couldn't Matt come up with a good story during high school? His school life was miserable!

Getting off the bus, Matt walked down the street towards his house. At least, he would be home soon. Home sweet home! Matt's spirits began to rise again as he envisioned his living room, television, and couch.

Matt tried to forget what happened between him and Avril. Why didn't she just ignore him? Why did Avril have to be so friendly with him? Matt wasn't used to being friendly with popular people in his school. It's different if it's an ordinary person who reprimands him. They don't exude an aura that makes you feel not human.

That was Avril Miller. Her smile was as bright as her screams on the school field. She was too radiant for Matt.
Although yeah, Avril wasn't arrogant like most popular kids were. That said, Avril was the best of them all. The friendliest and sweetest if Matt may add. Almost everyone thought that way. That's what made it hard for Avril to make enemies. Although, a few times Matt heard jealous sentences that rolled freely from some female students.

Feeling tired, moments after making it into the house, Matt immediately lay down on his favorite sofa. Ever since his mother married his stepfather, this sofa became Matt's favorite place. His step-sister was too busy studying to let him have the television and the couch for as long as he wanted. That's one of the good things about Matt's new home and new family.

Matt took off his jacket. Shit! He must stink now. His t-shirt was wet with sweat. Likewise, his hair was wet with sweat. That's not a good thing. He looked like a loser now.

Matt heard footsteps. It could have been Johanna. Either way, it was already dinner time. It was Johanna's turn to cook now. Matt couldn't imagine if he had to listen to Johanna's scolding too after what he experienced today.

Matt chose to turn on the television. Matt chose to ignore Johanna. Well, Johanna wouldn't care about Matt no matter how cool or bad he was. Probably. Unfortunately, what Matt thought didn't happen at all because a few minutes later, Matt heard Johanna scream.

"Oh my God! You're really pathetic!" Johanna shouted.

Matt frowned. He was completely exhausted and arguing with Johanna was the last thing Matt wanted. Johanna wanted the opposite because Matt heard her voice again.

"Oh my God! Can't I get a cool stepbrother? At least don't embarrass me in front of my friends! Really!" Johanna grumbled.

Matt almost ignored Johanna when he heard the sweet sound of laughter. This can't be right. A big mistake, but Matt reflexively turned his head. Just then he saw Avril smiling sweetly at him.

This isn't fair! Matt looked bad right now. Just like a cat that almost drowned. His hair was wet in an uncool way and so was his body. Matt doesn't even have a body shape. Oh my God! Matt must look pathetic right now.
Unlike Avril. She even looks like a doll now with a big bow on her head. Avril has changed her clothes and looks even more beautiful. Avril looks fresh despite jumping all day in the field. Unlike him who looks ridiculous for wearing a jacket in broad daylight, waiting all day for the bus, and walking to her house. After all, what kind of surprise is this? Avril was already at her house?

"No problem, Johanna," Avril said understandingly.

Surprisingly, Avril's words made Matt even more embarrassed. Matt let out a long sigh. He wanted to sink into the sofa. Couldn't Johanna and Avril just leave him alone?

"Just forget about him" Johanna snorted.

Matt chose to ignore Johanna and Avril. Seconds later, Matt heard footsteps heading towards the kitchen. Damn it! Why was Avril Marie Miller at his house now? Looks like Matt doesn't need to get any worse. Grabbing his jacket, Matt quickly moved towards his room. Matt needed a shower!

After showering, Matt walked out to the kitchen. Matt was sure that Johanna had taken Avril to her room. His guess was correct. Matt didn't see Johanna and Avril anywhere. Good! Matt didn't want to see them right now.
Grabbing his food, Matt brought it to the couch. Not long after, he chose a movie to watch. His choice fell to Spiderman Far From Home. Matt was just about to enjoy his meal when he heard footsteps again. There was no way Avril was coming downstairs, right?
