Ch. 46She's back

"You disappeared" Avril cried while holding her stomach.

Avril walked slowly. Oh, my! In fact, usually running a little like this does not make her stomach hurt at all. Avril glanced at Matt. He was staring at Avril without blinking. Matt was even staring at Avril with an astonished look as if two horns were sticking out of Avril's head.

"What the hell?" said Avril. "There are no horns on my head, right?"

Matt shook his head stiffly. He still couldn't believe that the person standing before him right now was Avril Marie Miller. Hadn't Avril lost all interest in Matt? Avril even ignored him in the corridor yesterday. Matt thought Avril had completely disappeared from his life. Matt thought Avril had finally realized that the girl didn't fit in at all with the boring Matt. Matt had clearly realized yesterday that their worlds were different. Oh, it seems Matt is thinking too much.

"No, I don't. Of course not!" Matt said quickly.

After Avril managed to catch her breath, she looked at Matt. "So, you disappeared. Showed up at lunchtime and decided to run off with your friend in the end?"

Matt was lost for words. He still needed time to process what Avril had just said. Matt disappeared? Need time for lunch? Decided to run away with his friend? Did that mean Avril had been looking for Matt all day? Not only that. From what Avril had just said, Matt was pretty sure that Avril didn't intend to stay away from Matt at all.

Well, Matt had no idea what was going through his mind at the moment. His mind was still as messed up as ever and his feelings? Really! His feelings were even more complicated. One feeling Matt did know at the moment. Matt was relieved when he met Avril this time. Matt even had the urge to hug Avril at this moment. Of course, Matt still had the presence of mind not to do so. Who knows what would be going through the girl's mind if Matt actually did.

"But, where have you been all day?" said Avril dissatisfied. "You didn't forget that today is Friday?"

Matt shook his head again. "Of course not!"

Avril sighed. "Yes! I can't blame you. There was a loophole in my plan. We should have arranged a meeting place or something."

Arrange a meeting place. That sounded promising to Matt's ears. Could Matt wait to meet Avril from now on? Can Matt get his hopes up again? Just as Matt was getting busy with his thoughts, Warren elbowed Matt. Matt turned his head while the man signaled by pointing at his watch. Ah!

"We're leaving," Matt said as he left.

"Yeah, I can see that. You guys want to run away," said Avril.

At that moment, Matt remembered the ticket Kim had given him. Hopefully, Matt didn't throw them away. Matt quickly unpacked his bag. After what happened in the corridor yesterday, Matt went home with a broken heart and two neglected tickets. Matt had mustered up the courage to come to the school radio. It was a big step forward for Matt and his little world. Really! Matt was tempted to throw the tickets away yesterday. Fortunately, he was too tired when he got home and just forgot about the ticket.

"See you!" said Matt. Matt immediately handed the ticket to Avril.

Avril looked at the tickets. The classic ballet show, The Nutcracker. Avril knew the story by heart, of course. The thing was, two men walking in a hurry to see a ballet performance was a rare thing. Really! Matt smiled a little. Isn't Matt full of surprises?

"Do you want to come with us? We're running out of time and it looks like we'll be late if we stay here" Matt said.

Besides Matt, Warren watched Matt in horror. The first time Warren saw Avril talking to Matt, the man looked upset. Warren could understand that. His friend was a loser who didn't understand the value of a person. Now? Warren could even see the hope in Matt's eyes.

"Of course, I'm coming! It's Friday," Avril said again.

"Great! Well, let's all go up! We're running out of time," said Warren.

After saying that, Warren rotated to the front seat. He let Avril and Matt sit in the back seat. His eyes were still watching Avril with his unique style. Okay! Warren still didn't think that the girl was Avril. Not until he heard her voice. After all, Warren had never seen Avril up close at all.

This girl had thick black hair with caramel skin. She wore black-rimmed glasses. They were quite thick. She looked like someone who spent all day reading books. Her lips were pink with no lipstick at all. Her thick eyebrows and long eyelashes reminded her of someone. A photo that is often displayed on the making or social media videos of Los Angeles Senior High School children. But, this girl is different from Avril. Avril was fair-skinned and she had cute light brown hair.

" So? You're going to the ballet?" said Avril. "Does she know our schedule?"

What schedule? Warren glanced at Matt in surprise. Matt nodded and Avril breathed a sigh of relief. "Warren can keep a secret."

Avril nodded. "So, since we're going out, can I be me? My head is itching"

Matt looked thoughtful and then nodded. "Go ahead!"

"Okay! Thank goodness!" said Avril.

After saying that, Avril took off her wig. Avril's signature brown hair just fell as she took off her wig. Not only that, the moment she took off her glasses, Warren covered his mouth in disbelief. She was Avril!

"Oh my god!" said Warren in disbelief.

Avril glanced at Warren and smiled sweetly. "Hey! Thanks for letting Matt take me.

"Warren was still staring at Avril in amazement. "No problem. After all, you were invited indirectly"

Avril furrowed her brow. "I was invited?"

Warren nodded. "I told Kim that Matt knows you. Kim gave Matt two tickets. Seeing them in your hand, it looks like Matt was too scared to give them away."

Avril laughed and then looked at him. "It's an honor I was invited to"

Warren nodded. So sweet and of course as friendly as ever. Even in her caramel skin, Avril could still exude charm. "Yes. She's our new friend."

"Good!" commented Avril. "So, who is this Kim?"

"Kim. You know of course" Warren continued.

Avril looked thoughtful and at that moment she remembered Kim. "Ah! The girl from Monday! Of course, I remember her!"

Warren nodded. "Today's the show. We promised we'd watch"

"Great! I'm interested too!"

"By the way, I'm Warren Knock. Matt's friend" Warren said.

"Warren knock? Like..."

"Yes, I know! Like a door joke. Knock knock, who's there?" said Warren.

Avril laughed amusedly. "You look smart."

Warren adjusted the position of his glasses proudly. "Yes! I am smart! Not as smart as Johanna of course"

Avril smiled. "Johanna is a monster" Warren nodded. "Yeah! What the hell is a perfect score? Good thing she can't play sports."

Avril laughed amusedly. "Yeah. I agree."

After that, the conversation was interrupted. Avril looked at the ticket in her hand. Without realizing it, Matt was watching her from the side. Matt smiled. Little did he know, he missed this girl. The fact that Matt was relieved that Avril was back surprised even him. Matt had another strange thought. Why did one day out of 7 not feel like enough? It felt like spending just one day with Avril wasn't enough at all.
