Matt had never felt so miserable. Matt felt that he had completely lost his direction and purpose. All this time, Matt had always been consistent in what he wanted. Matt never doubted the decisions he made. Not ever. For that one, Matt could really boast about himself. Long story short, Matt had never been upset even once. But, not anymore. The only thing Matthew Connor could be proud of was gone and now he felt like a complete loser.
Loser. Remembering that one word, Avril's voice echoed in Matt's head. There are no losers. Oh, kind Avril would have said that. For Matt himself, he knew how much of a loser he was. Before, Matt struggled to fight the people around him. Being a ninja and hiding his aura as much as possible. Now, Matt's enemy was himself.
Since Monday's incident, gone were the men who wore hoodies in the summer. Matt then completely threw away his hoodie. Not only that, Matt now has a small group for lunch. Warren with his unusual lunch and of course Kimberly as their gang leader. Kimberly would make sure Warren ate lunch with them so there was no more loner Matt in the cafeteria.
But that wasn't all. The days went on as usual for Matt. The rumors of Monday's incident were starting to die down and of course as usual, no one cared about Matt. Matt could walk freely in the corridor without pitying stares from people. It was different with A Class. The rumors about them were getting worse and Matt even started to hear unpleasant stories about their actions at Los Angeles Senior High School. It was as if the whole school was against them.
Today is Wednesday. Matt walked down the corridor with his headset in his ears. Oh, yeah! Matt had almost forgotten about his current problem. Matt was having a character crisis! Okay. It's a common thing for teenagers. Matt obviously knew that. Only, it wasn't happening to Matt. Really! Matt was starting to question some things about himself. Did Matt really want to be transparent? Did Matt really want to continue living in his little world? Perhaps, Matt wanted to take a walk out of his world and say hello to some people or maybe go out for a bad day like stepping in dirt in the summer.
The question started with Avril. Avril does it well. She respected Matt's world and to this day he still holds her in good stead. It's just that, for the first time in Matt's life, he doesn't want to be transparent. He wanted to be the center of attention. Not everyone of course. Matt only wants that one person to notice him, Avril Marie Miller.
Since last Friday, Avril has completely abandoned Matt. They didn't chat even a single word. In fact, Avril gave a short talk on Friday. Matt felt like he didn't do anything wrong on Friday. Well, except for the part where Matt whined at Avril to let him stay in her world. Oh, shit! Had Matt really done anything wrong?
In the midst of Matt's frantic thoughts, someone tugged on his shoulder. "Oh, my gosh! No wonder! I've been calling you like crazy!"
Matt gasped. He noticed the girl who had called him. Kimberly. Kim was still faithful to her emo style. The black tartan skirt with the red stripe, the black t-shirt with the words I hate you and the boots that made her look even cooler. Matt was grateful not to find a chain on her skirt. He suspected Kim would have tried to tie Val up with the chain if she had one.
"You need me?" asked Matt ignoring Kim's frustrated tone.
Kim nodded. "Warren said you guys were coming to my ballet the day after tomorrow. He was going to accompany me to look for some things. But, I can't find it!"
Oh, yes! Kim with her emo style and a ballet show. A perfect combination, Matt thought. Are they going to perform ballet with emo style? Maybe, a mix of ballet and rock and roll is trending right now.
"I haven't given Warren a decision yet" Matt admitted.
Kim snorted. "Don't be pretentious, Matt! I know you have nothing to do. You're just lying on your couch, right?"
Another new thing in Matt's life was the presence of Kim. Slowly, the girl began to understand Matt's character and actually, it was not a pleasant thing. Matt was always the topic when they had lunch. Warren would recount some epic events from Matt's life like the time he ruined the choir with his falsetto voice.
"My couch is definitely cooler!" Matt subtly retorted. Matt didn't need to go to the ballet when he was feeling like shit.
"Your couch is probably full of drool!" Kim said.
Matt shrugged his shoulders dismissively. "It's still cooler!"
"You're coming, sir! It's rare that I invite people to my events!" Kim said proudly.
Matt glanced at Kim. "Or maybe, you don't have enough friends to invite to your event"
Kim folded her hands. "For a quiet person, your words are quite spicy too"
"Thank you!" said Matt.
"That's not a compliment" Kim said annoyed.
"You'll get used to it" Matt replied. As Matt was getting used to Warren and Kim.
Kim chuckled. She said something but Matt had already lost his focus. From a distance, Matt saw Avril in her casual clothes. She was talking to her cheers partner. Matt couldn't remember what her name was. Apparently, Matt really didn't know many people. Then, not long after, A Class passed by them. Val even ignored them. Just like what happened when A Class showed up, the atmosphere in the corridor turned cold.
"They still suck" Kim commented.
Matt didn't answer. His focus was still on Avril. Oh, my goodness! Avril was never on Matt's radar before. But, now, Matt could clearly see Avril even from 20m away.Matt wasn't sure what was going on. But, an argument broke out in the corridor. Avril and her friend approached. Matt was getting more and more annoyed with Valerie. Why was that girl never a deterrent? Avril eventually managed to help Val. The fight was resolved.
"I can be an angel and a devil at the same time" Kim commented. "One day she attacks Val, today she helps her. Why is she such a superhero?"
"Because she's Avril Miller" said Matt. The same guy who thinks there are no losers in this world!
"You finally responded to my words too!" Kim said.
Matt ignored Kim again. His attention was on Val who was confronting Avril. Val had left them first. Matt could see Avril's annoyed friend pointing at Val. However, Avril was as calm as the soothing lake water. Why was it that the more he got to know Avril, the more interested Matt became?
"Come on, we have to find Waren!" said Kim.
Matt wanted to dismiss Kim. He still wanted to be there and watch his girl. Avril Marie Miller. But, Avril was already going in the opposite direction to Matt. That's right! It's Wednesday. Avril was going to cheers practice.
"Why do you like daydreaming so much?" Kim complained.
Matt didn't answer again. He followed Kim in the opposite direction to Avril. Oh, of course! Their worlds were different.
