They walked towards the bus stop while Avril's friends turned into the parking lot. I don't know where they were going, but Avril didn't care and Matt noticed. Being with her friends was more fun. Wasn't Avril the one who made the wrong decision here? Avril was giving in too much to Matt. Fortunately, the man didn't voice his thoughts at all. Matt decided to bury his thoughts rather than hear another lecture from Avril. Avril was good at arguing.
“Don't say anything!” Avril warned.
Matt raised his hand. “I didn't even make a sound at all, A!”
Avril laughed. “Good boy!”
That day, they went home quietly. Matt took the bus home again. As soon as the bus came, an excited Avril got on first. Matt shook his head. Once the people around her were gone, Avril returned to her explosive self.
“Come on, Matty!”
“I'm coming!” Matt replied and got on the bus.
Avril chose seats for them. Matt was relieved when Avril saved a spot by the window for him. At least, one thing Matt knew. Avril was a caring person underneath her explosive demeanor. As soon as Matt sat down, Avril smiled meaningfully.
“This is our first time going home together,” Avril said.
Matt nodded. “I'm surprised you can be so excited for something like this.”
Avril shrugged her shoulders dismissively as she propped herself up. The bus was running and they were not the center of attention at all. Avril had really succeeded in her disguise.
“Did you know, Matt?” Avril said.
“Yeah?”
“It doesn't take anything big to get you excited,” Avril said. “Even small things have the same value in my eyes.”
Matt couldn't believe Avril could say something like that so casually. Again, the girl managed to surprise Matt. In fact, Matt felt embarrassed for judging Avril too much.
“I see” Matt said shortly.
Avril just smiled a little. The girl closed her eyes. Matt chose to look at the same scene as usual. The man was still doing his routine no matter what happened to him today. The only thing that changed that day was the chair next to Matt. Usually it was empty. Now, Avril filled it.
Matt himself didn't know what Avril was doing. But, the girl fell asleep on the bus and leaned quietly on Matt's shoulder. Was Matt too boring for Avril to fall asleep? However, Matt volunteered his shoulder to Avril.
Matt has made a big decision today. not only that, it looks like Avril also made a big decision today. why did Avril bother to go undercover? Avril even changed completely. Apparently, Avril woke up early today to prepare her disguise. If indeed her skin was the result of make up, Avril was clearly troubled this morning. Avril's skin was not this brown as usual. Matt finally let Avril lean back.
One thing Matt knew. Avril was right. Being around Avril wasn't bad either. It had been a long time since Matt had joked around like he did in the corridor earlier. Coming home from school with Avril wasn't bad either. despite Avril's outbursts, it turned out that she could adjust well. As soon as Matt's house was near, he woke the girl up.
“A! I'll be down in a minute!” Matt said.
Avril blinked her eyes. She looked at Matt and then at the road. “Sorry, I fell asleep. Are you bored?”
Matt shook his head. “Not at all.”
Matt couldn't even believe that fact. There was a warm feeling that flowed when Avril leaned on him earlier. Not only that, Matt didn't imagine that the girl knew what he was doing while Avril was sleeping. Matthew Connor was busy watching Avril's sleeping face. As soon as Avril leaned on him, at that moment Matt's attention was distracted. Matt even took his eyes off the window.
The crazy part is, Matt doesn't even seem to care if he's not sitting by the window. Because, watching Avril is way more fun than the road. That's really crazy! Matt even realized the craziness he had just committed.
“Good job!” said Avril. “Careful Matty, you still have to walk a bit, right?”
“I'm a big boy, A!” replied Matt.
Avril chuckled. “I know.”
Avril watched the people on the bus and then glanced out the window. At that moment, she turned around and noticed Matt. He was looking at Avril confused.
“What's wrong?” Matt asked.
“I want to continue what I was saying” Avril said.
“What?” Matt looked confused.
“As you say, I found the reason I met you” said Avril.
“What?”
Matt waited. For some reason, the curiosity inside him was getting stronger. Matt seemed to be preparing himself for the worst.
“I think you're the perfect resting place, Matty! Can I call you home?”
After Avril said that, the bus stopped right at Matt's stop. The man glanced at the open door and then looked at Avril uncertainly. Damn! Why wasn't the timing right? But, Matt himself wasn't sure how to respond to what Avril had just said. In contrast to Matt, Avril looked completely calm. Again, the girl smiled soothingly.
“No need to answer. Bye, Matty, see you soon,” Avril said as she pushed Matt away.
The man complied and quickly got off the bus before the driver ranted. But, every step Matt took was heavy. Why was it so hard to leave Avril there? Then, what the hell did Avril say just now? Even after getting off, Matt was still watching Avril. The girl leaned against the window and looked straight ahead. Avril didn't even turn her head towards Matt. Couldn't she turn her head? Matt wanted to see Avril one last time.
Unfortunately the bus walked away leaving Matt still glued to the bus stop. Avril didn't turn around at all. Matt was shocked because he felt disappointed about that. Matt quickly pushed his thoughts away.
Not long after, Matt walked towards his house. Matt's steps were slow. This was the first time going home had been hard for Matthew Connor. Avril was clearly making changes little by little.
“I'm not sure Avril can keep her word” Matt muttered. “My quiet world has been noisy since I met her.”
Matt sighed and continued on his way. Well, Matt felt he had no authority over his own will.
Meanwhile, Avril was busy calming herself down on the bus. Her heart was beating violently. Oh my, why would Avril say something embarrassing like that?
Once the bus was moving, Avril was busy fanning herself. Her face felt hot. Not to mention, Matt's shocked expression when he heard Avril say that. Oh, my! Since when did Avril become this shy? In fact, Avril was never shy even after doing embarrassing things. Usually, Avril even laughed at every silly behavior.
Avril sighed and pictured Matt in the corner of her mind. At that very moment, Avril smiled as she watched the streets outside. Matthew Connor was truly an adventure for Avril!
