Ch. 18Special Girl

“What a wall of defense” Matt argued.

Avril raised one eyebrow and looked at Matt. “Do you know any figures of speech?”

Matt nodded. Avril sighed. “Then you must know what I mean.”

Matt just couldn't say anything at that moment. The thing was, Avril had penetrated him so well that he didn't know how to react to it. Seeing Matt's silence, Avril watched the people passing by. Then, her attention was drawn to the field where Evan was playing soccer on the field. So, this is what it's like to sit watching from the bleachers? We can only see their excitement without being able to join in at all.

“Actually, Matty, it's your choice. I can't force you at all” Avril said as she pulled the grass around her.

Matt noticed Avril. The girl was no longer watching him. She was watching the grass and pulling it again as if she was at her wit's end with Matt. Did Avril give up in the end? Did Matt succeed? Unfortunately, Matt couldn't even define his feelings at all. there were feelings of joy and sadness mixed together. But, no. Matt had already made up his mind.

“I'm glad you understand, A!” Matt said. Now was the time to say goodbye, right? Let's say it now, Matt! “I can't do it at all”

Avril turned her head now. The light in her eyes dimmed and Matt felt like he had made a big mistake. Then, the light returned. Avril tilted her face slightly sweetly and then smiled crookedly.

“Unfortunately, you also have to understand that I won't give up” Avril said.

Matt felt annoyed again. But, at the same time Matt also felt relieved that Avril didn't give up on him. Now, what should he do? Should Matt give up and let Avril take all the control? No!Letting Avril take all the control is too risky. The thing is, Matt can't predict Avril's next move. A few days ago Avril was angry and today she was in disguise. So, what would she do again later?

“Avril” Matt called out desperately. Unfortunately, the man was also desperate because he felt indecisive. Matt also didn't understand what she was feeling at all.

“What?” said Avril.

“You know why I chose you, Matt?” said Avril.

Matt adjusted his glasses and now noticed the grass at his feet. “No, I don't. I still can't accept your reasoning. How can the lead like an extra like me?”

Avril smiled a little. “To be honest, my crush isn't that big yet. But, there was a moment when I saw you, Matt! When I look at you, I see only you. As if, just seeing you was enough.”

Matt laughed amusedly. “You sure I'm not misinterpreting my feelings? Maybe you're just surprised to see a kid wearing a hoodie in the summer.”

Avril shook her head. “You didn't wear a hoodie to our first meeting.”

“I even forgot what I was wearing” Matt said honestly. Avril smiled. Matt realized that Avril did smile a lot, unlike other kids Matt knew. He had never heard any negative comments about Avril at all.

“I remember that” Avril admitted. “But, let me tell you a secret. I never gave up Matt. Everything I do, I always take seriously. When I was asked to be an impromptu understudy, I spent all night memorizing the script. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to understanding pitch. But, I studied and studied until I understood so that I could stay in the choir. When I was on the field, all I could think about was cheering for our team and encouraging the audience to cheer for our team. In fact, the night before I became a radio announcer, I was busy looking for topics to bring up so that people wouldn't get bored” Avril sighed. Okay! Apparently, she was talking too long. “The point is, I always take things seriously. And so are you.”

At the time, Matt felt envious of Avril. That girl clearly knew what she wanted and how to get it. While Matt, the man was only focused on being transparent. Matt just kept remembering his mother's advice not to be an asshole and he succeeded. Matt never got involved with any girl until Avril showed up. Somehow, Matt got on Avril's radar and damn it, the girl wasn't playing at all.

“You'll die of boredom, A!” warned Matt.

Avril glanced at Matt. “Are you sure? I've had enough of what we did in the corridor earlier.”

“The more you know me, the more you'll know how bad I am. You'll regret it and leave” Matt said.

Funnily enough, Matt was tongue-tied when he said the word leave. Maybe because Avril was the first girl who liked him. To be honest, Matt was also drawn to Avril's way of thinking. Avril may have a fairly small body but her mind is broad and she is quite wise.

“We'll see. Let me decide,” Avril said amused. “But, I'm pretty confident in my intuition.”

“Why?” said Matt.

“Why what? Why do you always ask why? You're like a child who asks a lot of questions” Avril chided.

Matt looked away from Avril. “You obviously realize how they treated you earlier. Living in my world isn't easy.”

Avril watched Matt. The way he spoke his world, it was as if the man was protecting his territory. Avril moved.

This time, she sat in front of Matt so that he was forced to look at her now. “If it's not easy for you, why stay Matt?” said Avril curiously.

Matt watched Avril. Why did Avril's questions always hit the mark? Matt looked at Avril in front of him. Avril was right. Her intuition was too good. “I can't say.”

Avril glanced at Matt. From the way Matt answered, the man had a reason. Oh my! Why was everything getting so interesting? Matt would probably keep it to himself but the secret made Avril even more attracted to Matt. What exactly makes Matt like this? From the beginning, Avril did see Matt as a mysterious man.

“No problem,” Avril said firmly.

“I saw it earlier. You were surprised to be treated like that?” asked Matt still trying to make Avril realize.

Avril nodded. “Actually, yes. But, it was fun too. I mean, hey! It's like I jumped into a whole new world. Do you understand the thrill of doing something new?”

“No. I'm too lazy to do anything new,” Matt said honestly.

Avril chuckled. “I feel excited. To be honest, it feels good to be ignored like that too. I mean, when we walk down the corridor and no one notices.”

“Are you seriously saying that?” Matt asked incredulously.

“Of course!” replied Avril. “I think I've found what I want. Every Friday, I'm going to disguise myself like this. It feels good to have a quiet day.”

Matt watched Avril. “I can't stop you, can I?”

Avril laughed amusedly. “You're starting to understand me. Good sign, Matty!”

“I don't like you, Avril,” Matt said.

Avril smiled wryly. “No problem. It's enough that you don't kick me out. I'm tired of being kicked out.”

“I'm sorry” Matt said quickly.

Avril laughed.“Did I manage to tame you?”

Matt shook his head and Avril just shrugged her shoulders indifferently. Matt was hard to conquer which was why he was a challenge for Avril.

“One thing I want you to know, I will respect your world Matt! I won't intrude on your comfort zone.”

Matt watched Avril. How could Avril say that so easily? Avril Marie Miller is indeed a special girl.
