How could Avril look so carefree? Why would Avril go to such lengths to play with Matt? The man sure as hell wasn't having fun with Matthew Connor. How could it not be? Matt had spent his time being ordinary. Matt had never been special. Only Avril thought he was special.
Well, Matt had heard the rumors about Avril. His father was a successful businessman and his mother was a doctor. Looking at Avril, it was certain that Avril was very well off. Avril spends her life having fun. She doesn't seem to be thinking about something like whether will she go to school. Avril must not even be thinking about something like saving her monthly money. As for Matt, he only quit his part-time job after his mom married his stepfather 1 year ago. Matt has just been enjoying his relaxed life and is only thinking about school. From the beginning, their worlds were different.
"I don't understand," Matt said quietly. Now his attention was fully on Avril.
Avril also noticed Matt. This was the first time he had paid attention to her. "What don't you understand?"
"Why are you doing all this?" asked Matt while holding back his irritation.
Avril seemed to be thinking. Avril doesn't like to think. Avril is used to improvising in her life. When she wanted to do something, she would do it. It was that simple. As long as Avril's actions did not harm people and were not criminal, why not?
"Because I want to. Is that enough to answer your question? Well, I'm not going to lie Matty. It's the answer," Avril said honestly.
Matt had no idea what was going through her mind. However, he could sense her disappointment when Avril said that. So, all this was just for fun? Matt thought Avril was different. Are all popular kids like that?
"Did I do something wrong with you?" Matt asked irritably.
Avril nodded. She pointed at Matt again with her spoon. "Yes. Your fault for making me curious."
"Curious?" said Matt repeating Avril's words.
Avril nodded firmly. "Yes! Ever since I saw you at home, I've been curious about you. I've never seen you, Matty dear. How come I didn't know a boy as handsome as you were in this school?"
Avril said it twice. Handsome. Matt never even thought of himself as handsome! Matt never even spent more than 5 minutes looking at his reflection in the mirror. He always shied away from crowds and no one ever thought he was special. His mom kept reminding Matt not to be a jerk. And yes, Matt did. Matt could barely interact with any girls. Now, a girl approached him. Matt was approached by a girl with explosive energy. Avril was too much for a guy like Matthew Connor to handle.
"You're so crazy," Matt said.
Avril didn't take offense at all. Instead, she laughed and smiled charmingly. Should Matt change his glasses? Why did he keep falling for Avril Miller's charms?
"Crazy? I'm just cool," Avril said confidently.
Matt couldn't help but laugh. He laughed to hear Avril say that sentence so confidently. Cool? Well, Matt couldn't argue with that one. Matt watched Avril. This is not good! Avril could make people feel comfortable with her.
"Oh my God! I was right, wasn't I? You're handsome," Avril said, looking at Matt intensely.
"As handsome as Evan?" Matt asked.
Okay! Matt was going crazy following Avril's game. She didn't even think Matt could ask Avril that. Matt even forgot about his food. Talking comfortably like this with Avril managed to make him feel comfortable. In fact, there was an urge inside Matt to let everything go by itself. Wait a minute! Matt wasn't even feeling upset anymore! Avril was truly magical.
"More" Avril replied quickly.
"Zed?" asked Matt again.
"Ah..." Avril glanced at Zed at the popular table. "Zed is probably more handsome. But, don't worry! You're my type."
Matt snorted at that. Zed was better looking than him? Why didn't Matt feel satisfied at all? Maybe Matt was just happy that someone complimented him. Matt was rarely complimented like this. So, why did Avril approach him? Wait a minute! He was Avril's type? Did Matt almost forget that one detail?
"So, your type is a loser?" Matt snickered.
Avril shook her head. "Mysterious. Matt, you're my challenge."
Matt sighed. Dealing with Avril only made things worse. Being with Avril only obliterated his quiet world. In fact, Matt was sure Avril couldn't understand him at all. They hadn't sat down for half an hour and Avril was already stirring up Matt's feelings. Matt wasn't even sure what he felt for Avril Miller.
"Whatever it is, I refuse to be your challenge!" said Matt. "Listen, Avril try not to play with other people. Have you ever seen a movie? Losers like me get their hearts broken," Matt said and put down his spoon.
He didn't even have the appetite to finish his lunch. Yes! All Matt needed to do was graduate from this school and move to his native land. Matt was going home to where he belonged. As Matt knew, Los Angeles didn't suit him at all. Matt was just about to stand up when Avril held his hand.
"Peter Parker won Mary Jane. " Avril said. "I never saw you as a loser. I don't even know what popular means. I'm just
doing what I want to do and I don't think it's wrong."
Matt was silent. He didn't know Avril thought that. For some reason, Avril's words stabbed Matt. He felt insinuated by Avril's words. Avril's relaxed face disappeared and now the girl was watching him with a serious face. Like this moment, Avril even managed to make Matt stand still. her gaze was hard to resist. If magic did exist, Matt was sure he was being bewitched by Avril right now. Matt complied. He didn't even move an inch.
"No mistake," Matt said. Wait a minute? Did Matt just agree with Avril?
