Ch. 11Another Girl

The usual radiance on Avril's face now dimmed. Matt could feel his guilt mounting as soon as he saw Avril's grim face. Matt had never been rude to anyone, even Johanna, who was often cynical about him. It was just that he felt Avril should know his thoughts. In the end, he tried to ignore his feelings of guilt. Matt was a loser but he never intended to be a jerk. He had to explain everything to Avril slowly so she would understand and leave Matt alone.

"Look, I don't like being the center of attention," Matt explained in a quiet tone. "With you around, I'm the center of attention."

Avril blinked her eyes. Matt's voice just now was exactly like persuasion. However, Matt's low voice clearly showed the man's guilt. How could Matt be so sweet? Even though he only said a line of harsh words. A second later, Avril's eyes lit up again and she smiled brightly. Matt immediately put up a good wall of defense. Not again! Curse Avril and all her charms! How could God have created her this perfect?

"Does that mean I have to go undercover?" Avril whispered.

Matt wanted to laugh so badly but he tried desperately to hold back his laughter. Why would Avril even think of disguising herself? No, no, no! Whatever form Avril was in, Matt was sure she would still be the center of attention. Avril did have the perfect physique even though she was not very tall. It's just that Avril's energy is so overwhelming. Matt wasn't sure Avril could stand still for even an hour.

"I'm good at disguises," Avril said again, trying to convince Matt. "You'd be surprised. Believe me, that's why I joined the theater."

Avril smiled proudly. Avril knew what she was getting into. Not only did she like a challenge, but she was also aware of how well she contributed to each club she joined. Unfortunately, Avril's words didn't convince Matt at all. Instead, the man didn't answer at all. He raised one eyebrow in response. Avril turned to her food and decided not to bother Matt anymore. He was still looking at her with an expression of disbelief. Avril snorted as she chewed her food and swallowed it while pointing at Matt with her spoon. For some reason, seeing Matt in disbelief made Avril a little annoyed.

"I can be a cheerleader, radio announcer, etc. Doesn't that mean I'm good at disguise?" Avril said again.

Matt rolled his eyes. He was sure that Avril had the potential to make him crazy. Matt just wanted Avril to stay away from him. That's it! Matt didn't want to play at all. But, it seemed like Avril wanted to play with him.

"Still the center of attention" Matt commented shortly.

Hearing Avril talk made Matt forget to eat. He should have finished his food immediately. After all, even if Avril was good at disguising herself, the girl was bound to be in the spotlight wherever she was. Not trusting Avril Marie Miller to be transparent was a good thing.

"Should I disguise myself as a nerd?" Avril babbled.

"You won't be able to" Matt commented. In addition, Matt thought it was impossible.

Matt looked down and focused his gaze on his food. The pressure from the surroundings was getting heavier. The people around them were getting curious about Matt. With two more spoons, Matt soon finished his food. Meanwhile, Avril couldn't accept Matt underestimating her. Avril always likes a challenge. According to her, Matt had just given her a challenge.

After finishing the last spoon, Matt immediately stood up. Avril was surprised while trying to prevent Matt.

"Where are you going?" Avril asked.

"I'm done eating" Matty replied as he picked up his empty plate.

"Are you going to leave me alone?" Avril asked with a pleading face.

Matt smiled slightly. No! That wouldn't work. For Matt, being with Avril was suffocating. He couldn't even taste the
food properly. Matt wouldn't stay even for a minute.

"I'm sure someone will come to fill my seat soon. So, lady, if you'll excuse me," Matt said with a formal bow.
Matt started to walk away from his seat. Avril just wanted to hold him back but he didn't turn around at all. He walked straight towards the exit. In his heart, he cheered that he could resist an Avril Marie Miller. In fact, Avril could not resist him any longer. Isn't that a good development?

As soon as she turned around, the good feeling she had evaporated. Of course, after Matt left the table, Evan and his friends sat down with Avril. The boys were desperately seeking her attention and Avril was strangely friendly to them. Well, that's just how Avril is. She'll never be alone.

Matt threw the trash into the bin. Once again, he turned around as he was about to leave the cafeteria. A lively atmosphere could be heard from the table. Evan was repeatedly laughing and telling jokes.
Matt looked down. That was Avril's world. Matt didn't belong in her world. Besides, Avril would soon lose interest in him. Maybe for Avril approaching Matt was a fun way to pass the time. Thinking about it, for some reason Matt's heart throbbed in pain. Matt had been acting strangely lately.

The next day, Matt saw Avril at the popular table. The girl looked fine even though Matt had been thinking about her words all night. Did this mean that she was just playing games with him?
Matt took his tray of food and sat down at one of the tables that was quite far away from the popular tables. Matt heard Evan overreact to Avril's joke. Evan's laughter which filled almost the entire cafeteria was sickening. It was obvious Evan was trying to get Avril's attention.

"Can I sit here?" Someone asked.

Matt raised his head. There was a girl with a tray in her hand. She gave Matt a lazy look and he immediately nodded. The girl had quite a stern aura with an all-black outfit and a silver necklace hanging around her neck. On her shirt were the words I don't care in English. Her hair was black with a sharp nose and black eyeballs as well. It feels as if the color black was invented for this girl.

The girl sat comfortably. This is strange! Why are there so many people lately who want to sit at the same table as Matt? Matt took a look around him. That's right! There were still many empty tables in the cafeteria.

"I have a purpose for sitting here, okay?" said the girl.

"Okay," said Matt. Why is this girl so intimidating?

"I'm Kimberly," said the girl. "You can call me anything but Berly, Hey, Stupid or Idiot."

"Of course, I can't do that," Matt said.

Matt hadn't even started eating at all. Kim's presence managed to distract his focus. Unfortunately, this was noticed by Avril. Matt was never even like that when she was around. Who was that girl anyway?

"Great! I see you're with Warren" Kim said in a calm tone.

"Yeah!" Matt said tensely. "I know him."

Kim laughed. In contrast to her appearance, Kim's laughter was truly contagious. Matt couldn't help but smile a little and Avril glared at that. Matt never smiled at her and he didn't even shoo her away.

"Relax," Kim said amused. "Can you give me his number? I have business with Warren."

"What for?" Matt asked defensively.

"Oh, my gosh! I'm not going to hurt him! I need Warren to fix something" said Kim.

"Fine, give me your number," said Matt.

Kim nodded and started giving her number. Avril glared even more. Oh, Matty! How is Avril different from that girl? Then, at that very moment, Avril realized something. No one cared at all even though she was sitting with Matt. The man didn't like being the center of attention and the girl certainly wasn't making Matt uncomfortable. At least, the girl had something Matt wanted. Avril looked at her food. Suddenly she had no appetite at all.
