Ch. 9Supernatural Creatures

Edith and Seth were in the park. They sat on a bench under a tree just to get away from the noise and glares from the students. Facing negative attacks from the whole school made Edith very sad; she didn't want all this to happen to her.

Seth waited for Edith's feelings to get better by sitting in silence. Occasionally, he glanced at the girl. He had thought that something like this would happen, so he could drive away the bullies by giving them a lesson.

"I'm not what they say I am. Why are they judging me as if I'm a disgusting piece of filth?"

Edith stared straight ahead. She exhaled harshly after expressing her grievances. Seeing Edith, who endured it all, Seth wanted to hug the girl and hold her tightly.

"They just don't know what happened; after all, we can't control someone's mouth, can we? Don't listen; the harder you try to prove it, the more they'll keep picking on you. You can count on me, Edith. That's just a milkshake; maybe there will be a one-on-one duel afterwards,’ Seth said proudly.

"No, Seth. I don't want that to happen; just because of me, you get into a fight with someone else."

"It doesn't matter to me at all. They are not pure humans, Edith. Everyone here is a werewolf; only you are truly human."

‘What? So that's why you always tease them and they never fight back, and that's also why I'm being treated like this?’ said Edith, who was now looking at Seth.

"Yes, they are jealous of you. I was imprinted by an ordinary human like you."

Edith felt that she was so stupid and that she had lived in the midst of supernatural beings for so long. She wondered if there were other supernatural creatures besides werewolves in this place.

"Is there anything else besides werewolves? I saw in the film that werewolves are enemies with vampires, and sometimes there are witches too. Is it like that, Seth?"

Seth explained about other supernatural creatures besides werewolves in this realm. He recounted the tension between werewolves and vampires that dated back hundreds of years. Besides those two creatures, Seth also added the role of witches as the guardians of the natural balance.

Edith was slightly amazed after hearing Seth's explanation. The supernatural things that Seth brought up interested her. She forgot all her sadness and wanted to hear more about these creatures.

"What about the other creatures? Elves, fairies, or creatures told in fairy tales?"

‘How interested are you in this?’

Edith's curiosity drove her on to get more information about the existence of the fairy tale creature she had seen in the film. It was a very tempting thing to talk about at the moment.

Every one of Seth's words had already changed Edith's perspective. She continued to listen to Seth's story and connected it with some of the films she had seen. The part of Seth's story about other mythological creatures made Edith round her mouth without realising it.

‘Does that mean only werewolves, vampires, and witches mingle with humans?’

"Yes. We are all scattered around the world, but only vampires cannot appear during the day, while werewolves can at any time; our existence is superior and more civilised,’ Seth fibbed to end his explanation.

Edith understood Seth's words. Her life now, which has changed 180 degrees, has been answered. Living side by side with supernatural creatures, especially werewolves, at least gave her a different flavour. She began to accept it little by little.

Everything must have its own explanation. So does his life; maybe the universe has determined his destiny to become an imprint mate for a werewolf. By holding on to that, Edith thought that maybe her life would get better.

"Would you like some ice cream? Usually, ice cream can change our mood for the better. I learned that recently."

Edith looked at Seth in surprise. What was wrong with this man? He smiled and offered her something she really liked. Ice cream was also one of Edith's favourite things to boost her mood. Edith needed something sweet to make her forget what happened earlier.

Seth moved from his seat and was already standing up, extending his hand to Edith. Edith took the hand and stood up; she followed Seth as he walked out of the school garden area.

‘I want strawberry flavour with caramel topping,’ said Edith.

Edith noticed two girls sitting in the corner of the room. Their eyes did not blink once they saw Seth, who walked towards the cashier to buy his ice cream order. Edith ignored them at first, but her attitude changed after one of them approached the cashier and flirted flirtatiously.

From where she sat, Edith could clearly see how the girl was teasing Seth with her naughty winks. Edith was fed up with the girl's behaviour. She got up from her seat and stepped towards them from the side of the queue.

"Seth, I don't think ordering one ice cream for me will take long, do you? Do you know her? I see you're busy staring at her instead of paying for your order. Look at the long queue!"

Edith took out some money from her purse and gave the cashier a five-pound note. Edith took her ice cream order and pretended to slip in front of the girl who teased Seth earlier. The ice cream held by Edith hit the girl's exposed breast.

"Oops, sorry. The queue was so crowded that I tripped. Sorry!"

The girl swore harshly and left. Edith enjoyed the exciting show she had just put on. For her, losing 5 pounds to deter a girl was very satisfying.

Edith walked away, leaving Seth still gawping. Edith didn't care; she kept walking towards the parking area, waiting for the car owner, Seth, to catch up with her. Edith even sped up her pace and stomped a little.

‘Didn't I see something wrong?’ asked Seth once they arrived at the parking area.

‘No.’

‘Are you jealous?’

‘Of course not,’ argued Edith.

‘Yes, you are jealous!’

‘I said no!’

Edith half-screamed. Her scream made the windscreen crack. Seth was very surprised to see Edith get emotional like that. The windscreen could not have cracked by chance.

‘You bastard!’ cursed Edith directly at Seth.

"Hey, I didn't know that you would get this emotional."

Seth touched Edith's arm to calm her down, but it was too late for Seth to do so. Edith was already floating a few inches off the ground. Her eyes gave off a bluish glow, and so did her body. Seth could see it because he was a supernatural being.

Seth glanced around; he became wary if anyone saw this unexpected event. Several people had already noticed them and were staring curiously.

Seth could not let this incident become a spectacle for the people around them. He hugged Edith's body, which was still floating at his height, and said, ‘Edith, I'm sorry."

Seth felt Edith's body begin to descend to the ground. The girl still had her eyes closed and drooped limply in his arms. Seth carried Edith into his car and laid her in the back seat. He covered Edith's cold body with his jacket.

Seth started the engine of his car and drove out of the parking lot to avoid the strange stares of the people who saw them earlier. Seth thought hard about what had just happened. This was not a normal thing, especially since it was Edith who experienced it.

‘Edith, what's wrong with you?’
