Chapter 2
Poirier didn't call me for a few weeks to ask how his son and I were doing. Which he used to do often.
At first I was also wondering why...he doesn't call anymore. It turned out that he was preparing for his wedding.
In the past, I overheard the conversation of two maids, who I was with at the time. I was just coming down from the stairs when I heard them talking.
"Lorda, don't you wonder why Sir Poirier rarely calls on the phone and even visits?" asked a confidant of Poirier's housekeeper.
They were currently cleaning the living room and they still managed to talk. That's not a case for me and I can handle their jobs, but Poirier told me that I should rest and not move too much in the mansion because I'm pregnant.
He said he just doesn't want our son and I to have a hard time. So she hired two maids whom she trusted completely.
So it won't be a problem for him about us. His hiding from me who was pregnant.
"I'm also wondering, Arbeth. I'm even more worried about Ma'am Reolla. She's almost guarding the phone inside her room because she's waiting for Sir Poirier's call but so far she still hasn't noticed," answered the lady named Lorda. I know they are worried for my health. I also see the pity in their eyes that I don't need.
"Ma'am is always anxious. Why Sir Poirier hasn't married Ma'am Reolla yet. They are good and I see that it's not money he's after even though we both know he's holding on to something so that our boss won't be out of his company again... But he didn't use it because Ma'am Reolla is a good woman. I don't understand Sir, eh... But I don't know if the news I heard is true... I just saw it while I was shopping. You know that Sir is rich Poirier and his family, isn't it?" it said long
"What is that? I feel nervous... I hope it's not serious." The other was still close to his chest and his companion came closer to him.
"It was reported on TV that Sir Poirier is getting married to Ameefa San Gorte. The girl is also a well known daughter of the rich..."
Ameefa San Gorte...she is the fiancé of... Poirier... My heart skipped a beat and I clutched my chest. My rest went up because I could feel it gradually getting tighter.
That might be right... That news is true.
"Or maybe it's just an arranged marriage? You know rich people are often like that..."
"It's true that Sir Poirier is about to get married because they still have pictures with his bride. I don't see any emotion, you seem to be forcing him because he's smiling. There's a trace of happiness on his face. Maybe Sir Poirier really loves the girl... But Ma'am Reolla... I have a feeling that our kind boss will be hurt..."
"That's possible. That's why Sir Poirier has been so busy these past few days... I-I'm also nervous for Ma'am Reolla... What is she going to do? I hope she at least says... I feel like..."
I left that place before I could hear the rest of their conversation. I went back to my room and sat down at the foot of the bed.
The corner of my eyes warmed up and there were tears on the horizon. Bit by bit I calmed myself down until I finally burst into tears without making a sound. My crying was silent.
That's why he doesn't have any feelings for me, our son and me... Because he will be tied to the woman he loves.
"Where are you going, Ma'am Reolla?" Lorda asked me and blocked my path.
Arbeth stopped what she was doing and paid attention to me.
"I'm bored at the mansion. I want to get some fresh air outside," I replied with a smile, but it seemed that he couldn't be bought by lies because his scrutinizing eyes landed on the clothes I was wearing now.
"Can I just join you, Ma'am?" Arbeth's presentation and she came to Lorda's place.
I shook my head, "It's fine that I'm alone. Just leave you here and rest. I'll be gone for a while. Don't worry about me," I said. Their faces showed disapproval of what I said, but because they respected that, they just nodded.
Carrying my small shoulder bag I pushed myself out. I took a taxi and knew that I was going far away from this place.
Poirier was leaving some money for us so that's what I brought. In fact, I also have a black card of his that I don't use much either. Except for my shopping for things for my baby.
I also have a few clothes that if Poirier hadn't bought them, I would have had no intention of choosing when we were at the mall. I don't want to waste his money...
We drove for about an hour and my hip and buttocks hurt from the long drive.
I paid Manong taxi driver and didn't even bother to get my change. I knew his work was too difficult so I let it go.
I smiled bitterly when I saw the church and the outside full of decorations. I hid so I wouldn't be seen...even though it wasn't necessary because no one knew me. Except for Poirier.
I was holding my baby bump when I saw Poirier. I felt like crying when I saw him again. He is well dressed and he looks handsome now. His hair was neatly cut and he had a smile on his lips.
He is happy...
Another man came up to him and patted his shoulder. They laughed together and the men swarmed her. Maybe they were his friends.
"Which one of them do you have a crush on, Miss?" I was startled when I heard a woman's voice near my ear.
I held my chest because I was really shocked. I looked at the woman and my lips almost parted when I saw her face.
She's beautiful... She's like an angel...
"I'm Elysian Carter. Are you okay? I've been noticing you for a while now, eh. You look like you're not okay while you're looking at those guys. Do you have a crush on those guys? Is it at the wedding?" he asked me one after another.
He smiled and shook his head. After a while he lost his attention on me when he saw the approaching car.
Maybe that's the bride. Poirier and his friends are no longer outside. My eyes were fixed on the beautiful woman wearing a beautiful gown. There was also a smile on his lips...
Probably...he's also happy because they're married now. They love each other so they are going to get married and she is also pregnant like me.
"Maybe the wedding is about to start. I'll leave you, Miss..." said the woman and I just nodded.
I held my womb because I felt a pain in it.
"A-Are you alright, my son?" I asked my son with difficulty and I slowly slid down the road.
I feel dizzy and my vision is getting dark. I was catching my breath because it seemed like I was going to run out of breath until I couldn't take it anymore and I lost consciousness but I heard the woman's voice screaming.
"Miss! Oh, my God! What's happening to you?! Jayden, hon! Help me and lift the girl!"
I woke up in a white room, the white ceiling immediately greeted me and the familiar smell of drugs. The cold air conditioner enveloped me.
I held my head because I still felt dizzy. I tried to remember what happened to me earlier and why I was in the hospital.
Poirier... The wedding... Right... I was at the Manila Cathedral earlier and I saw Poirier with a smile on his face. His face shows satisfaction. I also saw his fiancee and I was just there before I passed out.
"My child!" I panicked and got up. Because of the shock, my vision went round.
"Please, Miss. Just stay in your hospital bed. Don't surprise yourself," a familiar voice stopped me and I saw the woman from before again.
He looked at me worriedly. I don't know why she's worried about me?
"Calm down, okay?" he said and I just silently watched him pour water into the glass and he gave it to me. I gladly accepted that because my throat seemed to be drying up.
"How are you feeling?" he asked me. I seem to be drawn to his soft voice.
"My s-son?" instead that's what I asked him. He was still a little surprised.
"There really isn't a mother who won't worry about our children... Your baby is fine, Miss. Maybe you were just shocked earlier and I saw a different emotion earlier that's why your baby is also feeling it and it affected him. Be careful next time, avoid getting stressed. Your mother and daughter's health is still more important," he said at length and I just nodded. But I remember the past.
"Thank you... If you hadn't... seen me earlier, maybe... my son would have been destroyed," I promised softly. He reached for my hand and squeezed it.
"Because I see myself in you when my husband and I were pregnant with our first child. I can also see the sadness... But you are a strong mother... If you have any problems in these times... choose the one who will be strong, Miss. Be brave in everything. Also remember that you are expecting a baby..." he said.
To Be Continued...
