Ch. 16The Flying Witch-Owl

It wasn't long after I had finished drinking coffee, breakfast was served. Eric prepared breakfast, while Ammon gave him a helping hand. I was left alone with Derek the whole time. Sometimes, he would smile at me for a reason best known to him. Whatever the source of his smile was, it doesn't mean well to me, I know that. That was why, when we had breakfast I felt more comfortable with the other wolves around. After our meal, I went outside the cottage although it was cold. However, I was not alone since I was under the watchful eyes of the wolves nearby. They were standing not too far away from me, about 40 meters away.
Suddenly, the alpha started walking in my direction. What does he want this time?
"Louis, it's time we move out. I'm sure you have had enough rest after having breakfast?" He said.
"Yes, I'm good now," I answered.

"Then we should start our journey without wasting any more precious time. Have you thought about what we might need when we enter Muldoch?"

"Yes. There is nothing we need that we don't have now, just the magic book and that's all," I told him. He turned to leave but I was tempted to call him back. "Sir!"

He stopped, "yes what's the problem witch? I thought you said we have got all we needed?"

I looked down, "Not that at all. What I had in mind to tell you has nothing to do with what we might need at Muldoch."
A stern look appeared on his face. "Then what is it, witch? Make it real quick so we can get on with our journey."

"I was thinking maybe we should...," just then a bird flew by. It stared at me as if it knew who I was. And not just that, I can say that there was something familiar about the owl I have just seen. I believe our paths have crossed before but, my poor memory at the moment denied me from recalling when and where. No doubt, from the way the owl stared at me, it was no ordinary owl. The bird was a witch-turned owl. Probably, the witch preferred to be in that state because, all the witches are currently been chased, persecuted, and burned all over the human towns nearby by the Revolutionists. I believe the forest has become a safe refuge for many of them. As I watched, the owl landed on a tree nearby, and from there it continued to gaze at me.

"Yes, witch. What do you have to say?" The alpha demanded.

I doubted if, he or the others has any clue about what was going on at that moment. “Oh pardon my poor memory sir! I have forgotten what I had in mind to tell you but, when I do remember them, I won't hesitate to let you know."

He was visibly angry at me. "Now, let's go!"

"Oh no! I'm sorry to tell you this but, I think I'm pressed," I lied.

"Is that what you couldn't tell me before?"

"Yes, I'm sorry for telling you this now,” I apologized.

"Hey! Witch. Do whatever you want in a possible short time so we can leave." He pointed at the cottage, "see yourself out in the cottage, witch, and don’t waste my time," he said.

"There is one more problem sir," I told him.

Just as he turned to leave again, he replied, "What do you want again this time?"

"I don't want to make use of the restroom in the cottage this time. I want to take a short walk around this place. Would you mind if I head that way for some fresh air while I also relieve myself?" I requested. I could tell, he wasn't willing to let me go far away. Surprisingly, he made the opposite decision of what I thought.
"You may go. Remember what I said about time? Very important!"

Finally, he began leaving. This time, I didn't bother to call for his attention again. Her generosity stems from the fact that in the next few hours he will probably become a free and powerful wolf again. After that, what will become of me is always inconclusive because I have no exact idea.
I headed straight to where the owl was perching. It never took its eyes off me ever since I discovered her. On reaching the tree where the owl was resting, I initiated a conversation. "Who are you and what do you want from me?" I queried. The owl showed no sign of willingness to respond to me and neither did it show any sign of fear.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" I asked again. This time, she looked in the direction of where I had come from. Perhaps, the bird may be trying to figure out if the wolves have gone or at least, far away enough from where we were standing. I noticed his body movement and quickly responded. "Fear not, they are harmless and they can never see us." My words appeared to have spurred the bird into more action. Before my very own eyes, it transforms into a human female. Her back faced my front after transformation, so I could not tell who the individual was. "Please, turn around, and let's meet each other formally. I'm aware you knew who I was, from the very moment you flew past me a few minutes ago. You can trust me okay," I told her. When she turned around, I nearly shouted in joy and excitement. "Leah, what are you doing here?" I asked, and rushed to embrace her. We were both raised together by lady Gia. I had thought she was among the Witches that were burned the night a huge tragedy befell us.

"Louis, what are you doing here? Where have you been? We have been searching for you all over the place for a long time now. What brought you here?" She queried continuously in excitement and happiness.
"Leah, it's a long story," I told her. We were both becoming emotional. I could see some teardrops falling down her cheeks. I also began shedding my tears. Leah is the only family I have now. We never stopped holding hands as we continued to shed tears of joy.
