Ch. 4Part 4

Hans and Maria's marriage went smoothly for two years until, eventually, Hans organized a celebration to commemorate his wife's success in her new fashion design business.

"Congratulations to my beloved wife Maria. You're indeed an amazing woman who doesn't exploit her husband's position, very independent," Hans said in his speech for his wife.

Maria blushed and playfully hit Hans at that moment.

After the welcome ceremony, speech, and cake cutting, they moved on to the dancing part. All couples danced together, including Hans and Maria.

While dancing, Hans noticed someone very familiar entering the party room. The woman seemed to be searching for someone, turning her head left and right.

Hans was shocked by what he saw. He was convinced that the woman was Jessie. However, instead of being touched and happy, Hans appeared frightened and angry when he saw her.

He approached the woman standing at the entrance.

"You...you!" Hans stammered, taken aback.

"Oh, sorry, I'm looking for someone. Can you help me?" the woman, who seemed not to recognize Hans, said.

"Jessie? Is that you?" Hans asked, widening his eyes to make sure he wasn't mistaken.

"Jessie? Oh, I'm sorry, my name is Natalie. I came here looking for my father; he invited me to this party, but I arrived late. So, now I'm looking for him," replied the woman named Natalie.

"No, it can't be. Your face, your voice, exactly like Jessie," Hans kept insisting that the woman was Jessie because indeed, her face, voice, and gestures strongly resembled Jessie.

"Oh, sir, maybe you're mistaken. I might just look like someone you know," Natalie answered softly.

As they continued their conversation, someone behind Hans called out to Natalie.

"Natalie!" he shouted while walking towards her.

"Dad!" Natalie replied, and their shouts caught the attention of the guests.

Even Jessie's parents in the room turned to look.

Everyone was surprised to see a woman so similar to Jessie, who had passed away three years ago.

"Jessie," Jessie's mother whispered, approaching Natalie with tears uncontrollable.

"Natalie, my daughter," said the old man with a white beard.

"Dad, I've been looking for you since earlier. Are you enjoying the party so much that you're ignoring my messages?" Natalie asked her father in annoyance.

"Ha ha ha, you said you wanted a new mom, dear. Of course, Dad will do his best to make it happen, ha ha," replied the man known as Mr. Mac.

Mr. Mac was a wealthy businessman who had also invested in Maria's new fashion company.

Hans, realizing that the woman in front of him was not Jessie but Natalie, seemed somewhat relieved.

"Sorry, I thought you were Jessie," Hans apologized, bowing to Mr. Mac.

"Ha ha, it's okay. My daughter just returned from overseas. It must be difficult to find your way here, right?" Mr. Mac asked, patting his daughter's head.

"No, Dad, how could I forget the way home? This city is my hometown. I couldn't possibly forget the paths I used to take, ha ha," Natalie replied, surprising Hans as she sounded just like Jessie.

Jessie's mother, who had been approaching Natalie, was now standing in front of her, hugging Natalie tightly.

"Eh! What is this?" Natalie looked surprised when Jessie's mother hugged her.

"Jessie, my daughter, you're still alive, darling," Jessie's mother said while holding both of Natalie's cheeks.

"Um, ma'am, sorry, but I'm not Jessie," Natalie said, removing Jessie's mother's hands from her cheeks.

"What? Why? You are my daughter, Jessie," Jessie's mother seemed unwilling to believe that the person in front of her was not her daughter.

"Sorry, Mrs. Julliant, Natalie is my daughter. She just returned from overseas," Mr. Mac said, pulling Jessie's father away as he realized that the woman in front of them was not their daughter but someone else who looked like her.

"Darling, calm down!" Jessie's father told his wife. "Mr. Mac, forgive my wife. Perhaps she's not ready to accept the reality that our Jessie is no longer with us," Mr. Julliant said sadly.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know about the tragedy in your family. I'm sure Jessie is happy there, seeing how much her parents love her," Natalie said politely.

Finally, they dispersed the crowd that had been focusing on Natalie that night. Maria, who had been observing her husband from afar, felt annoyed because Hans seemed very concerned about Natalie, even getting her champagne.

"You really can't be trusted," Maria said, sipping her champagne.

She walked towards her husband, who was chatting with Natalie.

"Darling," Maria greeted, holding her husband's arm.

"Oh, Natalie, let me introduce you. This is the star of tonight, Maria, my wife," Hans introduced Maria to Natalie.

"Oh, congratulations to you. I'm Natalie," Natalie said, extending her hand for a handshake.

"Well, I've been hearing about your drama since earlier. Welcome," Maria replied without shaking Natalie's hand.

Natalie withdrew her hand, showing a mixture of embarrassment and sadness. Hans, realizing this, tried to lighten the mood.

"Ha ha ha, that's my wife for you. She's a bit awkward with new people," Hans said, making Maria angrier at him. She dragged Hans to a quieter place.

"Is this how you charm women? Is it because she looks like Jessie?" Maria asked spontaneously.

"Darling, what do you mean? I'm just saving your career, remember? Natalie's father is the biggest investor in your company, and we found him accidentally, right? Do you want your newly established business to fail because of your jealousy?" Hans reminded his wife not to overreact to Natalie and to behave well because of Mr. Mac.

"Huh! Fine, but don't get too close to her. I really don't like it!" Maria threatened her husband with her cute face.

"Ha ha ha! Don't worry, dear. I only love you," Hans replied, hugging his wife.

In the distance, Natalie, observing the scene, smiled faintly while sipping her champagne.

Meanwhile, on the staircase, Evan calmly watched the three of them as if observing something important.
