Ch. 16Part16

Jessie's eyes slowly opened, feeling pain all over her body. With all her strength, Jessie crawled out of the overturned and battered car, struggling to endure the pain.

Eventually, Jessie managed to get out of her car. She hurriedly grabbed her still-functioning phone.

Jessie contacted Evan, who was getting ready to come to Hans's birthday party.

"Hello, Evan," Jessie's weak voice sounded very clear. Evan, immediately concerned about Jessie's condition, promptly instructed her to send her address.

Jessie managed to escape from death and was quickly taken to the hospital. Initially, Jessie was reluctant to go to the hospital, and she even resisted when Evan wanted to contact Hans. However, Evan continued to insist until they reached Evan's family-owned hospital.

After being treated and changing her clothes, Evan visited Jessie in her room.

"Jessie, I will contact Hans," Evan said, taking out his phone.

"No need!" Jessie replied firmly.

"Why, Jessie? He's your husband, and I would feel guilty if your family didn't know about it too," Evan was confused at that moment because Jessie didn't explain her reasons at all.

"Evan, Hans tried to kill me," Jessie said, shedding tears.

"What? What do you mean? I don't understand; please tell me in more detail!" Evan looked surprised and confused. How could two people who love each other attempt to kill each other?

"That scoundrel has been cheating on me and tried to kill me, Evan!" Jessie looked angry.

"Calm down first; I will find a way to resolve this issue," Evan tried to soothe Jessie.

"No, let everyone know that I'm already dead. I will avenge myself on that damn man!" Jessie looked very angry at that moment, and Evan seemed not to recognize the woman in front of him who had been his friend for decades.

...

Day by day, Jessie lived with vengeance in her heart. Jessie wanted to take revenge as soon as possible, but her body was still full of wounds and psychological trauma.

Evan cared for Jessie with patience, showing affection while taking care of her. Every day, he prepared breakfast for Jessie, followed all of Jessie's wishes, and sometimes stayed overnight in her room.

Two months passed, and now Jessie looked healthier and could carry out her activities independently. They gradually began to plan step by step. Evan also sought help from Mr. Mac, who was an orphan living in his house.

Jessie was then adopted as Mr. Mac's child and was treated well as if she were his biological daughter.

Slowly, Evan and Mr. Mac made Maria attached to Mr. Mac. They made Maria feel grateful to Mr. Mac. Without Mr. Mac, Maria would not have been able to experience success like she had now. Until the day Jessie appeared as Natalie at Maria's party.

...

"Dad, don't worry; this time I will be a strong woman. I have seen the true faces of those two wicked people! I won't back down, Dad," Jessie, now known as Natalie, looked very ambitious; her revenge burned to the core.

"I'm just worried about my daughter," Mr. Mac said, leaving both of them.

"Mr. Mac seems to really care about you," Evan said to Natalie.

"Yes, Mr. Mac treats me very well here. I have to repay his kindness someday," Natalie replied confidently.

"One way to repay him is to stay safe. He will be happy if you remain fine," Evan explained at that moment.

Natalie nodded in agreement with Evan's words. They eventually parted ways; Evan returned to the hospital, while Natalie went into her room.

...

Days passed, and Evan continued to investigate who had been following Jessie until now. As far as Evan knew, the man was just an unemployed person.

Until Evan had an idea to check the license plate of the man's car. Evan then went to see his acquaintance, who was a police officer.

"Ken, please help me," Evan said, handing over the license plate he had taken a photo of a while ago to his friend Ken.

"What's in it for me?" Ken asked Evan.

"I have a bottle of Cheval Blanc 1990 wine," Evan pleaded with his friend, known for being a fan of expensive wines.

"Alright, I agree," Ken replied with a wide smile on his lips.

Ken began his work, checking the license plate Evan had given him. He pressed the buttons on his computer, glancing left and right, indicating that he was reading all the screens in front of him.

"Yep, I found it!" Ken exclaimed, making Evan, who was lost in thought, widen his eyes.

"Who? Who is the owner?" Evan asked, eager to turn Ken's computer screen.

"Eeehhh! You! I'll send it by email," Ken said, covering his computer screen.

"What? Why?" Evan looked impatient to see the owner of the car.

Ken acted as if pouring something into a glass, savoring its scent and drinking it slowly.

Evan understood what Ken meant.

"Fine, wait here!" Evan ordered. He quickly went to his house to get the wine.

"Ah, troublesome! If it weren't for being pushed, I wouldn't ask him for help," Evan grumbled while speeding his car through the streets.

After a few hours, Evan finally

got the information about the owner of the car. The first car used belonged to Maria, while the second car was a stolen one.

"I suspect both are stolen cars. Whatever you're looking for, it's better not to approach suspicious people," Ken sent a short message to Evan, worried that his friend might get involved in trouble.

"No, Ken, I'm sure Maria is behind all this," Evan thought to himself without replying to Ken's message.

Evan immediately informed Natalie to be cautious, but it was too late; Natalie's phone could not be reached.

Panicking, Evan quickly drove to the boutique, speeding his car without caring about other drivers. Horns blared, warning Evan to be careful, but he paid no attention. His worry at this moment surpassed his fear.

Upon arriving in front of the boutique, Evan saw that Natalie's shop was closed. Finally, he contacted one of Natalie's employees. The employee stated that Natalie had announced a holiday to them in the group chat, but what made them feel strange was that Natalie announced it right at the store's opening hours.

Natalie was accustomed to arriving earlier than her employees because she was a disciplined person. As for holidays, she always discussed them with her employees and almost never made sudden announcements like this morning.

Evan looked even more worried after closing his phone. He ran to the parking lot, where Natalie usually parked her car.

Natalie's car was seen in that parking space, and Evan quickly ran towards it. However, there was no sign of Natalie's presence there.

Amidst his confusion, Evan remembered the man. He checked all the cars in the parking lot and contacted their owners to request the black box video recordings from their cars.

Luckily, all the car owners cooperated well and gave permission to retrieve the black box videos.

Once again, Evan sought Ken's help to handle everything, with the condition that this matter had to be kept confidential because it involved the name of the child of a prominent businessman in the city.

After checking several videos with Ken, they managed to find evidence. Three days before the incident, a man approached Natalie's car, but it was not clear what he was doing. On the day of the incident, the man arrived earlier than Natalie and was seen passing by the car that recorded him.

Shortly afterward, Natalie arrived, and Maria's car passed right in front of the recording car.

The evidence they had was not enough to capture Maria because it was not clear if the man kidnapped Natalie.
