And the consequences are that, today he is beyond control. Partying, drinking beyond limits, girls and motorcycle races have become his lifestyle over the years. Mom is always worried about him concerning the upshots of his reckless actions.
The present worry of her is that he is booked in a hit and run case for rash driving and consumption of alcohol beyond the limits. "Hello Mr Harris, I hope you will take care regarding the case filed on my brother." It wasn't easy to appease Mr Harris, the police superintendent. I never beg anybody. But today I had to do it only because of the impropriety of my brother.
To say I was angry is an understatement. Had we not born to a same woman, I would have abandoned him long ago. It is only the tears in the eyes of my mother that still helps him to live on this earth.
Opening the call list of my phone, I dial his number. "Adam” my voice resonates in the silent walls of the gymnasium like a devil’s impregnation.
He was crying on the phone like a little boy seeing my fury. I hate him for his untrustworthy nature. "Shut the hell up. Your crocodile tears do not work anymore. I need an explanation. Do you have an idea about how serious is this issue? What happens if the relatives of that family you drove upon like a road, file a case on you? I had to plead that police superintendent, a man worth two mollusks to save you. You make me feel guilty before the people who are not even worth standing before me. This is the last warning I am giving you. Else, you wouldn't wish to hear what I am going to do next." My face goes red transpiring to an untameable fury.
For a few seconds there was a pin drop silence at the other end and then I heard his trembling voice no louder than a whisper. "This will not happen again big bro."
An hour later….
Dressed in a sky blue shirt and navy blue pants I prepare my usual breakfast, a toast with eggs and a glass of orange juice. "Hi baby, are you up early? When are we going to meet again?" The girl from yesterday night called me from the stairs of the spare bedroom. "Never" I answered her evenly while sipping on my juice.
"A complimentary gift would reach your address before this evening." I tell her sparing no glance checking the mails on my phone.
In a blazing anger the words fall out of her lips like pelting stones. "How dare you...."
I don't let her complete her sentence because I don't take orders from anybody, the least a woman. They're only worth the play toys. "All the terms and conditions were made clear to you before you reached this place and you signed the deal under your complete conscience. Now get out of my house before the security comes and drags you out." I tell her giving out no emotions as I type the replies to the mails of primary importance.
Two hours later
I dialed my receptionist, "Sara, Mr Luke should be in my office within ten minutes." Two minutes later there was a knock at my door. I was looking into my company's balance sheet and could unfurl innumerable errors in the numbers projected. I had taken over my dad's company two years ago after completing a Masters in Business Administration in Stanford University, California. Since then I have worked 24/7 and expanded our company three times.
Mr Luke was standing across the table. His face was red as good as a tomato. Nervousness evident in his posture and his hands were slightly shaking. The secret success of an enterprenuer is to study the psychology of the person before him and crack the deal with a considerable margin. My eyes reach places nobody can imagine and when it comes to my business no excuses are entertaied. I am a cold hearted boss who works only under terms and profits. "Mr Luke how could you be so irresponsible towards your job?" I reprimand answers from my company’s accountant for miscalculating the previous month's turnover.
Studying him I could understand his mistakes were unintentional. However they weren't worth an excuse. Mr Luke had been working in our firm for the last 20 years and had been a trustworthy, responsible employee. He had been like a family since I was four. During the recent course I notice him slightly distracted from work. I respect him for the dedication he had shown towards our company all his life but now the situation is going beyond control. All this while for the respect I hold for him, I excused giving him soft cautions but he is taking away all my patience by committing frivolous errors even a layman would not make.
"Take a seat Mr Luke. What's the matter? I keep correcting you and you make the same mistakes repeatedly. Now the water is above my head and I can’t take this anymore. I have given you enough number of opportunities to rectify yourself. You had been messing with the balance sheets and your ledgers are improper." My voice goes commanding and authoritative as I lean back on the comfortable leather seat giving him my undivided attention.
He trembles with anxiety which was apparently written all over his face. I knew my aura radiated supremacy and authority but that’s the way a boss controls his staff. They have to fear me. Otherwise they won't work sincerely. He answers me with quivering lips. "Sir, I apologize for giving you the trouble. And I promise to give my undivided attention towards my work. Please excuse me considering this as the last chance."
I dismiss his needless blabber and state in dominance. "Mr Luke I know there is some issue which is bothering you and I am not going to take further chances on this matter considering the well being of my enterprise.
