Ch. 24Part 24

After the reunion with her family, Jessie finally returned to the embrace of her father and mother. "Dad," Jessie called to Mr. Mac, who at that moment saw Jessie carrying her large suitcase and felt the loss of a child.

"My daughter," Mr. Mac, who had grown fond of Jessie, said.

"Can I still be your daughter?" Jessie asked Mr. Mac.

With tears welling up in their eyes, Mr. Mac immediately hugged Jessie warmly. "You will always be my daughter, Natalie. You are my daughter even though I never raised you," Mr. Mac said, his voice choked with tears.

"Thank you, Dad. You've helped me achieve all this even though I used to mean nothing to you," Jessie expressed. "I will always visit you, Dad," she continued.

"Of course, you must visit me because I am your father," Mr. Mac said. He escorted Jessie's departure, seemingly unwilling to let go of his daughter.

At the police station,

"Mr. Hans, you just need to answer my questions honestly so that the investigation process can proceed smoothly. I appreciate your cooperation," one of the police officers interrogating Hans said.

"Okay," Hans replied briefly with a blank stare.

The interrogation went smoothly, with Hans answering all the police's questions without evasion. Meanwhile, in another room, Maria continued to claim that Hans was the mastermind behind everything, admitting to being a victim and not expecting that Hans would commit such atrocities.

"Sir, I am a victim of Hans. I did have an affair with him, but he also threatened me if I didn't do what Hans wanted, including killing Jessie," Maria said, clearly not wanting to be blamed.

The police were deeply disappointed with this revelation because Hans continued to confess that he was guilty and would accept any punishment. However, thanks to the perseverance of Ken and Evan, they eventually found Gadi, the person who had kidnapped Jessie some time ago.

"I found him!" Ken shouted.

"What is it?" Evan asked, equally surprised.

"Read this!" Ken instructed, showing the contents of messages from Gadi that Maria had deleted. "This woman has deleted some messages from this man, and I managed to recover them," Ken continued.

Gadi: "Today I watched her in the boutique, I also saw your husband entering."
Gadi: "Do you want me to finish her off immediately?"
Gadi: "Give me a new vehicle; I can't keep stealing other people's cars all the time."
Gadi: (sending a photo of Jessie who had just entered his boutique)

"The hide-and-seek is over!" Evan said, visibly angry.

Not long after, the police finally arrested Gadi, who was having fun in a club.

"Mr. Gadi, you are detained for conspiring with Mrs. Maria," the police said, immediately handcuffing Gadi.

"What is this? I am innocent; I just followed what Maria told me to do. Maria! You wretched woman, you make me feel the bars again! Despicable woman!" Gadi cursed.

(First trial of the case of planning the murder of Jessie Julliant,)

"Are you sure about your confession?" a judge asked Gadi, who looked pale.

"Of course, Your Honor. If not for that woman who asked me, I would never do such dirty things, exactly like what happened years ago," Gadi expressed while staring at Maria's face with intense emotions.

"Very well, the verdict will be announced next week," the judge said, then banged his gavel three times.

At that moment, Gadi, wearing a prisoner's uniform with a pocket in his pants, slowly pulled out an object. He walked towards Maria and intentionally stabbed her neck with a toothbrush that had a sharpened end.

(Flashback of Gadi in prison)

"You scoundrel! I will kill you!" Gadi said, sharpening his toothbrush handle. Gadi kept rubbing the end of the toothbrush against the iron inside the prison.

"I have to kill you, Maria. You've always been my hell, Maria!" Gadi shouted hysterically.

(Back to the trial)

Fresh blood flowed from Maria's neck, where the toothbrush was stuck. Maria's voice, struggling with pain, called out to Gadi, remembering the happy moments at school with him. The call of "brother" from Maria continued to ring in Gadi's ears.

"Brother, wh-why," Maria said, she fainted and had to be treated at the hospital.

After the trial, Jessie visited Maria in the hospital. She saw Maria asleep, having just undergone surgery for the stabbing incident.

When Jessie was about to leave, Maria woke up and called Jessie. "Jessie," Maria called out with her almost lost voice.

Jessie turned around and looked at Maria. "Do you think you've succeeded?" Maria asked, trying to clarify her statement.

"Why? What have I done to you that makes you so cruel?" Jessie asked, visibly angered.

"I just don't like seeing you. We are both women, but why are you so much luckier than me?" Maria said, still unclear in Jessie's ears.

Jessie approached Maria's body and whispered in her ear, "Accept your defeat, Maria. All of this is the result of your efforts to get rid of me," Jessie said, then left Maria.

Angry, Maria wanted to scream and protest, but she couldn't even make a sound.

...

In the car on the way back from the hospital, Jessie and Evan were seen together in the same car.

"How does it feel to be back?" Evan asked, smiling.

"I am happy, of course," Jessie said, smiling at Evan.

"I am happy too," Evan said, turning to look into Jessie's eyes.

"By the way, Ken said you like me, since when?" Jessie suddenly asked, a question that Evan had never imagined,

Evan immediately stopped the car and parked it. "Wh-what? What kind of question is that, Jessie?" Evan asked, still unwilling to admit his feelings.

"You should be able to answer it, right? This is not as difficult as when you were studying medicine," Jessie teased Evan.

"Jessie, what do you mean?" Evan asked again,

"I will wait for you," Jessie suddenly said. "I will wait until you dare and can say it. For that, please wait for me until my wounds are completely healed," Jessie continued, giving hope to Evan.

Evan looked at Jessie with happiness, nodding and smiling at her. At this moment, both of them understood each other's feelings, and it was only because of Jessie and Evan's lack of courage that they had to postpone their happiness for a while.
