Guarding Donnie

Jack

My surprise must have shown on my face because Lisa laughed, “You look lost, Jack.”
I sat on the nearest surface which was a side table in the sitting room, “That's because I am. Why do you want to see me? Do you want another apology?”
Lisa rolled her eyes, “I don't need an apology from you. I understand why you told Donnie to cut me off.”
I exhaled. I'd been feeling a little guilty about that, “I'm glad you're not holding a grudge. So then, what do you want from me?”
Lisa rolled her eyes, “You can't come up with a reason I'd want to see you?”
I scratched my head and tried to think. After a moment, I shrugged, “No, I'm sorry. I can't think of anything off the top of my head.”
Lisa quirked an eyebrow, “Um, clueless much?”
I smiled at her. Lisa was much easier to get along with, and less spoiled than Donnie. She was also a stunning young woman, but why didn't she stir anything in me?
“So, I'm not really one to mince words,” Lisa began to play with her braids, “And I don't really do this often, but I'm going to do it now.”
“Do what?” I questioned when Lisa would not meet my eyes. If I didn't know better, I'd have thought she was shy.
“Jack, I like you and I want to go out with you.” Lisa said breathlessly.
My brain went blank for a second before I processed her words. When I did, I frowned, “Are you kidding? Are you trying to prank me? Did Donatella put you up to this?”
Lisa was quick to respond, “I'm not kidding! I really like you, and I would like to get to know you better.”
The look on Lisa's face was sincere, so I blushed, “I'm sorry I accused you of trying to prank me.”
Lisa crossed her legs and regarded her manicured nails, “Well, I'll forgive you. But why would you think me asking you out is a prank?”
“Because you're way out of my league,” I explained, “You're a very wealthy heiress and I'm just a street fighter moonlighting as a bodyguard.”
Lisa gazed at me, “Jack, there's more to you than your occupation. And I don't think you're out of my league.”
“You don't know me, Ms Sinclair,” I told Lisa, “You probably have this romantic image of me as a fixer-upper who's lived a rough life and could use some TLC. Believe me, you couldn't be farther from the truth.”
“You're right, I don't know you, Jack,” Lisa held my eyes as she continued, “I could get to know you on our date.”
“Wow,” I chuckled, “You're a persistent one, aren't you?”
“I get that a lot,” Lisa flipped her hair theatrically.
I laughed, Lisa was indeed fun to be around, but I didn't want to date her. I winced as I wondered how to let her down.
“Ms Sinclair,” I cleared my throat, “I'm really flattered you asked me out. never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined you'd be interested in me.”
“Uh-oh,” Lisa made a face, “I sense a 'but' coming.”
I grimaced, “But I'm not really looking to date at the moment.”
Lisa mumbled, “I thought as much,” louder, she questioned, “Why aren't you dating at the moment?”
“I don't date while on a job. It messes with my focus,” This was a rule I just made up, but I decided to keep to it because it was actually a good one. I couldn't afford any distractions while guarding Donnie.
“Fine,” Lisa grinned like a Cheshire cat, “You don't want commitment now, I got it. We could also skip the awkward date and go straight to the no-strings-attached sex.”
Lisa's forwardness took me by surprise once more, I felt my cheeks bloom with embarrassment, “Umm, I'm going to have to pass on that.”
Lisa gave me a sceptical glance, “Don't tell me you're off sex, too.”
I stretched my palms wide, “I actually am.”
“Wow!” Lisa exhaled, “Way to shoot a girl's advances down.”
“I hope I haven't disappointed or embarrassed you,” I rushed to add, “You're such a beautiful woman, Lisa. Any man would be lucky to have you.”
“Except you, apparently,” Lisa snapped and picked up her purse.
“Ms Sinclair,” I called, “You know why I'm rejecting you.”
Lisa eyed me, “So if you weren't on a job, you'd have agreed to go out with me?”
I bit my tongue. I knew if I lied to Lisa and said yes, it would save her some face, but at the same time, I couldn't bring myself to give her false hope. Before I could speak, Lisa stood, “Your silence says it all, Jack. Goodbye.”
“Wait,” I put out a hand, “Lisa, you deserve better than I have to give. I know you have better men falling at your feet.”
“But they're not you,” Lisa's face looked sad for a moment before she wiped it clean of all expression, “Anyway, you've rejected me, and you probably feel bad. I won't tell you not to feel bad, but don't feel bad too much.”
I nodded silently.
“Also, don't you ever tell anyone about this,” Lisa wagged a finger at me, “If word spreads that I asked you out and you turned me down, I'll deny it and call you a liar.”
With that, she turned to leave.
“So you won't wait to see Donatella?” I found myself.
Lisa turned and glared at me, “She's my best friend. I can FaceTime, text, or call her whenever I wish. Like I said, I came to see you.”
“Okay,” I nodded, “Make sure you get home safely.”
“Like you care,” Was Lisa's sulky response as she opened the door and walked away.
I shook my head in wonder as the door slammed. I couldn't wrap my head around the fact that Lisa Lemonde wanted me.
Am I crazy? I wondered, why did I reject Lisa Lemonde?
The woman was a ten out of ten, and I could have just taken her up on her offer of sex without any commitment. After one night, we'd go our separate ways. I had half a mind to call Lisa, but I decided against it.
She'd probably tell me to fuck off. She'd probably moved on and was making the same offer she'd made me to a more sensible and receptive man. Moreover, I really didn't fancy the idea of going out with Lisa Lemonde, to be sincere.
I was still pondering on Lisa's offer when Donnie sauntered into the sitting room wearing a big jersey shirt and tiny exercise shorts that showed off her toned legs.
She stood in front of me and folded her arms in a way that pushed her breasts forward. I forced myself to look at her face.
Her face was scrunched up in a frown as she looked at me.
“What?” I snapped, tired of being stared as though I was a microorganism beneath a microscope.
“I'm just trying to figure something out,” Donnie bit her plump red lips, and I felt all the blood in my body rush south.
“Jack, are you gay?”
