Jae could still feel the gentle pheromones when he was lying down. Yeon Jin's hands were still warmly around his, with no intention of letting go. He desperately wanted to open his eyes, but it felt like the lids were too heavy for him to lift, so Jae let himself stay closed and continued to feel the warmth of the pheromones released by Yeon Jin.
It's only that Ha Joon's comments about the demeaning Omega truly rattled Jae's brain, even though the pheromones provided by Yeon Jin were sufficient to make him feel better.
Jae was well aware of the caste of an Omega in this world. Being looked down upon and useless, there was nothing suitable for an Omega other than as a tool to satisfy sexual desires and a child-making machine for the Alphas.
However, he wasn't just born as an Omega. He was initially a Beta, raised as a Beta throughout his life. He was educated to be a superior Beta to serve the Seo-U Group family under Chairman Choi, his grandfather Choi Ha Joon, and Choi Yeon Jin, his fiancée.
However, reality suddenly showed him he was an Omega—the weakest race in the five-gender world circle.
Jae still remembered when morning came, his mother, a Beta, waking him up while touching Jae's dark mane that kept falling because it was so soft. The strands of hair tickled in the deep sleep that brought him to the surface of consciousness, allowing the pair of eyelids to be open and examine the tingly feeling that patted his forehead.
Jae, who was only nineteen years old then, smiled when he saw his mother greeting him similarly. "Wake up, slacker. It's your first day at college. You should shower and get ready in your new uniform, then go downstairs and fill your stomach with food." Said the mother while standing up after successfully waking up Jae, who had a little difficulty waking up that morning.
Yes. At the university, it gladly accepted Jae as the best-graduating student and the only student who could obtain a full scholarship up until graduation without exception. That morning was the first day and the day he had to go to the first class. A feat that is relatively uncommon among students who enroll at universities. Ahn-Shi College.
The elite Ahn-Shi University is run by the Seo-U Group, a well-known and influential company, and only people from large corporations and influential government figures enroll there. Being only a Beta and coming from a low-income family, Jae's ability to obtain a scholarship to such a prominent university was astonishing. It was a huge accomplishment for him.
"Am I late?" Jae asked as he got up from lying down without getting off the bed. Meanwhile, his mother was still busy hanging up the new uniform he would wear to college.
His mother shook her head with a very bright smile and answered, "No, no. You still have forty minutes to shower, have breakfast and go to college." "Thank goodness~"
"Well, thank goodness~ But you only have thirty minutes to come downstairs and have breakfast with us because, in those thirty minutes, your father and I will go to work." The mother said again.
"Oh, Mom... can you wait for me until I say 'I'm leaving' to you?" Jae complained.
However, Jae's complaints didn't make his mother mellow at all. She just looked at her teenage son, who was slowly reaching adulthood, with a pitying gaze, a snort, and one hand that she put on her waist with a slightly affronted expression.
"Jae, we've been going over this every day all year, we have to be at work by nine in the morning. So, hurry up ..."
Jae nodded, not daring to argue anymore, even though he raised both hands while speaking out loud.
"Yep. We've been over this a lot, and I'm giving up."
"Kim Seo Jae~" the mom called again.
"Yes, ma'am, can I have some privacy to get naked in my room before showering?"
"You got it. Hurry up and get down." The mother said as she hugged Jae's petite body and kissed his forehead before going downstairs.
Jae nodded but didn't respond. Jae entered his room's bathroom after his mother left and shut the door. He took his time going through his morning routine before ultimately dressing and going downstairs, where his folks were waiting.
When he arrived at the staircase's intersection, Jae examined his reflection in the tall mirror that was purposefully placed there. The jacket pocket held a brand-new wood-brown uniform with the Ahn-Shi University logo in red and a griffin standing atop a globe.
As is well known, Ahn-Shi University is a prominent institution that attracts students from Korea's elite families and business enterprises. In addition, Ahn-Shi University is highly selective and will never admit an Omega. No matter how wealthy or intelligent his parents were, they would still not be welcomed by the university, according to Ahn-Shi's presidency director, who said he had refused an Omega to apply to their university.
A famous university enforcing gender discrimination was a little disheartening. However, closer inspection reveals that nearly 45% of the students are Alphas, making the presence of an Omega something to look forward to.
Because everyone in the six-gender world understood that an Omega would produce much more dangerous pheromones, especially when they were in the heating phase and surrounded by Alphas, which could endanger their safety. And that was something worth approving of.
Jae hastily went downstairs to eat with his parents, who once more scoffed at him for being so late and complained that he was sick of staring at himself in his priceless Ahn-Shi university jacket. "You'll get scolded if you stay like this after work." Complained his father.
Jae only grinned in reply. If I can get a prestigious position, "I'll get up early and be the first to my boss's face." Jae boasted, causing his parents to smile and nod in agreement, expecting the boast to come true.
Jae was eager to attend Ahn-Shi University to experience the routine and meet new people. He knew there would be many people there with authoritarian personalities. Although he couldn't smell the pheromones, he could tell just by observing their gaze and the expression in their eyes, as opposed to himself, who was a Beta.
"Hey, you, punk." Called someone, startling Jae.
Jae turned around and was surprised when there was a tall man staring haughtily at him. Before Jae could answer the call, the tall man continued his sentence. "You're blocking. Get out of the way."
He pushed Jae's shoulder, causing him to stagger backward, almost falling, but Jae could still balance himself. Despite being mean to him, the tall man didn't apologize or turn around to look at him again, and he walked away as if he had never done anything.
Upset and feel annoyed. Jae watched the man's back turn away from him with annoyance and frustration. Jae could tell that the man was arrogant and dominant just from his voice. Jae even had a hunch that the man came from an affluent family, which may explain his smugness and arbitrary behavior.
Jae was standing in the middle of the street when a large group was ready to enter. Despite the man's obnoxious and rude attitude towards him, he shouldn't have been there. Jae quickly stepped aside, apologized to no one in particular, and then stood there and observed the onlookers.
Jae hurried to the school where he was supposed to be because he didn't want to lose time and miss the first class on the first day. Luckily, he didn't have to miss the first hour because the lecturer who was supposed to arrive two minutes ago still hadn't shown his face. There were around thirty students in the class, and practically every seat was taken. Despite sitting in the middle of the group, Jae had to locate a chair that would fit him.
"Sorry, excuse me. Can I pass by and sit over there?" The woman in the center of the street nodded when Jae spoke to her pleasantly, let him pass, and then sat on an empty seat. However, when Jae pulled out a notebook from the bag, a notebook, and a pen, someone hurled small wads of paper at him.
Jae instantly turned around out of curiosity and discovered the man who had shoved him in front of the barrier. Jae felt uncomfortable, like he was being singled out for bullying by the man during their encounter in class. Jae went around to avoid difficulty, and he was fortunate that the lecturer arrived right away.
After about an hour and a half, Jae's first class was finally over. When their lecturer left, Jae hurriedly followed the others out of the building. However, the voice yelled to him once more,
"Hey, you. Punk!"
Jae's body immediately tensed. Unfortunately, not only Jae stopped when the heavy voice rang in his ears once more; the few nearby people who had also heard the voice had also stopped.
"Hey, you little punk with the backpack." He called out again. "You're the one I pushed at the front gate, didn't you hear me?" He added.
The ones who had turned around opted to leave the class when they realized it was not them; only Jae was left to make the final direct eye contact with the man. The man smiled haughtily as Jae's courage shined in his eyes, but he could also conceal his attraction to Jae. The charming man didn't even bat an eye at Jae's face, supporting his chin while remaining seated in his chair.
"Beta, huh? I thought you were Omega ...." his sentence sounded like he was disappointed.
"Hey, there can't be an Omega in this place. It's obvious he's a Beta. I can't even smell any scent of his body." Said the one woman Jae had asked for help to get out of his way.
"Aah~ right. There can't be an Omega here, but why are you so pretty? Are you the child of what couple, Alpha and Omega?" Asked the man again.
I concure with the man's opening remarks. Sometimes, the man's acquaintances appeared to agree with what they observed. They were immediately drawn to Jae's face. The people who appeared to be Alpha gathered in front of Jae immediately, taking turns touching his face and messing with his hair.
"You're right, Ha Joon, he's very pretty, he's wonderful." Some of the man's friends seemed to agree with what they saw. Jae's face instantly became a spotlight for them. The people who appeared to be Alpha immediately crowded in front of Jae, touching his face and playing with his hair, taking turns.
"You're right, Ha Joon. He's charming, and his hair is silky, but he's a Beta." One comment escaped someone's lips.
"You're right, he's not an Omega. There isn't any scent on his body." Another said.
The others were curious and asked, "Did you do your last examination?" Discomfort. Jae had that feeling. As a result, he took his hands off his face and hair right away and turned to face Ha Joon.
"I'm new here, and I'm not an Alpha like you, but that doesn't mean you can be rude to me. No matter how soft my hair is or how pretty my face is, it's none of your business. Excuse me."
Jae turned around, walking away from the Alphas, sniffing around him like something disgusting. Everyone grumbled, feeling that Jae's attitude was a little bold to those who were supposed to be seniors to the young man. However, not a few praised Jae's bravery.
"So, he doesn't know who he's talking to yet, right, Ha Joon?" One of the people asked the man named Ha Joon.
Ha Joon smiled, got up, and put all his stationery into his bag as he said, "Why do I have to tell him about myself?"
"He should at least know that you are one of the heirs of the Seo-U Group and the person who holds the biggest share in this university." That person said again. However, Ha Joon just smiled,
"He will know who I am sooner or later." Ha Joon said, as if he didn't care, and walked away from the class, leaving questions about the statement on his friends' heads.
