In school on Monday, the teacher asked the class to write down on a piece of paper their aspirations and goals, whether it’s their plans for life after school or what they want to achieve at present, intending to make a positive impact on themselves, others, and the community.
The writings should be anonymous. No name or anything to identify the writer. The class started the new task.
Sarah and Lily sat together and looked at each other as if they were aware what of what the other would write on the paper.
“Pens up,” Ms. Penelope said, and they all did as she said. She carried a basket around, asking everyone to submit their paper while she read them one by one to the entire class.
A student raises their hand, and she gestures for him to speak. “What will happen after you read them all?”
“Hmm, I am thinking of something,” she tapped her lips with her pen, then her face brightened “How about this, I read them out and when you see something that interests you, you can seek the person going in that path and team up with such person.” She smiled at them.
“Like we’re in some business thing” another student muttered.
“Yes, when you want investors in your vision or idea, you need to seek them out so they see the potential in whatever you’re selling to them.” Ms. Penelope said.
She began reading them and making sure everyone was listening. After about an hour of reading, she took the last paper left in the basket and read.
“I want to help people, build communities, give to the poor, and be their ray of hope that GOD is here always” she reads and everyone in the class immediately turns to Sarah and Lily. Including Ms. Penelope.
Both young ladies looked at the knowing gazes on each person’s face while their attention was on them.
Ms. Penelope cleared her throat to get everyone’s attention. “I didn’t mention anyone while reading and would appreciate it if no one picked anyone for what they choose to do. What I read to you all so far doesn’t seem toxic or bad or harmful I wouldn’t bother reading them. But if you do suspect someone doing something like you described to us, please report it immediately. Thank you, class dismissed”
The bell rang just in time and everyone left the class in a rush. Sarah and Lily waited for most of the people to be out of the class before leaving to avoid being rampaged.
Just as they were set to exit the class, Ms. Penelope called to them. They turned to look at her with surprises on their faces. “Good job to you girls. I know what you did over the weekend,” she winked and dismissed them all.
They smiled and walked out of the class.
“She looked impressed” Lily noted. “Ms. Penelope is never impressed with anything that would waste her time by thinking about it”
“This could be our calling, helping those in need is courtesy of GOD and his divine provision,” Sarah said to her.
“Sounds good but I don’t want it to turn into a business kind of thing, if you get what I mean” Sarah nods affirmatively.
They began their way to the library when two students, a boy and a girl approached them with smiles on their faces. Lily and Sarah smiled back and waved, the students did the same and they stayed like that. Standing and staring at each other with smiles on their faces.
“Now, things are getting creepy. Do you need something?” Sarah spoke out, not able to take the creepy looks.
“Oh, we are sorry.” The boy apologized. “I am Matthew and this is Fendi my good friend” he introduced.
“Sarah and Lily” Sarah introduced pointing at her and Lily.
“We know you young ladies and would need your help,” Matthew said then paused for a while “Actually, we would like to offer our services to the cause you guys started,” he said with a smile on his face.
“Cause? What cause?” Lily asked with furrowed brows.
“You know, giving out. Outreaches you did for those homeless folks. I would love to say this to you that it was incredible what you both did”
“I’m sure they were all happy with the kindness you showed their way,” Fendi said.
“Oh, it’s not by our strength we do this. It’s GOD who provides for them and gives the grace to carry them out” Lily explained.
“That’s a brilliant way to look at it,” Matthew said “Can we be a part of the next outreach?” he asked.
“We have been trying to expand our faith in giving more to those in need and thought that it would be a great thing to collaborate with other like minds to do the outreaches,” Fendi explained.
“Uh…” Sarah and Lily looked at each other, they shrugged and smiled at Matthew and Fendi.
“You can come for the next outreach we’re going to”
“Okay, when?”
“We haven’t fixed a day yet but we’ll let you know when the day is set,” Lily said to them and they jumped in joy. Mostly Fendi.
“Thank you, we’ll be expecting your call boss” they salute before departing from them.
Lily shook her head. “Well, we can proudly say that GOD is in full support of what we are engaged with,” Sarah said as they continued their way to the library.
“Yes, we can say that” Lily smiled.
They got to the library and sat at their usual spot, brought out the books they wanted to read for the day, and secretly exchanged snacks under the table.
“What did you write in your paper though?” Lily asked. “Everyone knows I was the one who wrote the last paper Ms. Penelope read out,” she passed her some crackers “Be careful not to let the crumbs fall to the floor” she warned.
Sarah took the crackers from her and bit some in her mouth. “I wrote the therapist one” she answered.
“You want to be a therapist?” Lily asked, shock written all over her features.
“What? Don’t judge me” Sarah defended.
“This” Lily points to her face “Is a look of surprise, not judgment. I just wasn’t expecting it” she said.
“Me too. It’s just… I don’t know, I guess it’s just something I wanted to do?” Sarah shrugged.
“It’s okay. Just do whatever you think it’s right for you and if you don’t know yet, pray to GOD and he’ll guide you” Lily advised.
“Have you prayed about something like that?” Sarah asked.
Lily opened the novel in front of her to the page she bookmarked.
“No, I haven’t but I do believe he would answer if you ask directions for your life,” Lily said “I did ask directions in terms of what topics to read and little things like this and that but not anything related to the direction of my life”
“Maybe this giving out is your calling. No need to ask anyways, uh?”
Lily shrugged. “I guess there’s no harm asking”
Sarah nods and then smiles. “Thank you, we better see Joshua today,” she brought out her phone to text him.
“Where?”
“I’ll post meeting points to the group,” she said and did it.
