Arjun pov
"What happened Arjun? " Gayatri ma jerked me. Tears were streaming from her eyes imagining the worst scenario. Rahul made me drink some water and helped me to get up. Uncle helped Ma. They all sat up and then Uncle encouraged me to speak up.
"Yesterday, during the party I received a call informing me that a huge chunk of boulder disembarked and fell on some workers, who got buried underneath. Without informing anyone, I dragged Jai and proceeded to the site. There we were helping in unearthing the workers and sending them to the hospital when a boulder fell on Jai and he was buried in it. With the help of paramedics, I took him to the hospital. He is in the ICU. He received a lot of injuries. He suffered multiple fractures in his body. His condition is critical. The next 48 hours are fatal. Ma, uncle I am sorry. I failed you both. " I rubbed my face with my palms. I was feeling guilty. I drank the remaining water. Gayatri Ma rubbed my back which helped me in calming down.
" Young man, you are not going anywhere? You are going to take a rest. Rashi will help you in taking care of your wounds. You both are going to stay here and look after Kavya. Me, your mother, and Raghav are going to the hospital. You can come afterwards with Kavya and Rashi." Uncle drew me in a tight hug and patted my back, thus calming me.
"If anything happened to you today, then how would I have answered her ?" He mumbled something which I was unable to decipher.
"Uncle, who would you need to answer?" I broke the embrace and asked him.
" Nothing ." He cursed himself for the slip of his tongue. He wiped his tears and hastily walked out of the mansion.
Third-person pov
They reached the hospital in no time. On reaching, they went to the VIP floor which was assigned especially to their family. His wife was standing at the gate with tears in her eyes. He held her shoulder and she started wallowing in his embrace.
"Mr. Rathore, the prince is still in danger. The next few hours are still crucial. He is suffering from multiple fractures in various places. He has injured his head and we are running tests to find any possible concussion." The attending doctor explained Jai's condition. He tried his best not to terrify the parents. He was not sure of his words. Some tests were left to be done which would tell his precise condition.
" Then why is he unconscious?" Gayatri spoke in between her muffled sobs.
"He is under the influence of medication. Due to his head injury, we have to keep him unconscious else he would feel intense pain and we have to run the tests. You can go inside but make sure he is not stressed. I will ask the nurse to give you sterilized scrubs for you both to wear." The doctor went off from there in search of a nurse to help them. Raghav was frozen, seeing his brother's condition. His tears were not stopping.
After a while, which seemed like an eternity, a nurse came toward them. She sanitized them and gave them scrubs to wear. They entered the ICU. Gayatri gasped at the sight. Jai's body was covered with casts and bandages. Several IV tubes were attached to him. Tears rolled down her eyes. She clutched her husband's shirt tightly. Gayatri sat near Jai holding his hand and her husband stood near her. Raghav stood outside, as too many people were not allowed inside. His parents remained there for some time. A nurse came and asked them to wait in the waiting room. Raghav joined them in the waiting area. He didn't go inside as it was unbearable for him to see his brother's pain.
Meanwhile, it was early morning when Kavya woke up and was cranky. It has become quite impossible for Rashi to soothe her.
"But, bhere is Dad? I bant to see him. Woohoo." She started crying. She was not eating anything. Rasi was feeling helpless. It was then Rashi felt someone's presence, and on turning she found Arjun leaning on the door frame.
"Arjun bhai, why are you standing there? Please come and help me with her. She is weeping desperately and I'm unable to console her. " Rashi was carrying Kavya in her arms and trying to soothe her. Arjun came near and took her in his arms.
" Shhh princess, I'm here. What happened, why are you annoying your bua." Arjun's words soothed her a little bit. She turned her tear-stained face towards Arjun and cupped his face.
" Chachu, Dad, bhere is he? I bant to kiss him. He will scold me." Tears started rolling from her eyes once again. I was heartbroken seeing her tears.
" Princess, you can kiss me, and then I will take you to him. Drink your milk first." Arjun gestured to Rashi to prepare her bottle.
" You will take me to Dad. I will drink fast." She grabbed the bottle and finished it in no time. Arjun picked her up and then freshened her. Accompanied by Rashi, he proceeded to the hospital. "Uncle, how is Jai ?" Yash turned to find Arjun standing there with Kavya in his arms.
"Same as you left. Why have you brought her here? "
" I didn't want to but she was being cranky as she was missing Jai. " Arjun shrugged off her shoulder helplessly.
" Baba. Papa. I can't bind him. '' Kavya's eyes were filled with tears. " I bant to meet dad...a." Gayatri took her from Arjun.
" Come, baby, I will show you your papa."
"Gayatri please don't take her in. She would be scared seeing Jai's condition." Yash tried to stop his wife from taking his granddaughter inside.
" Rana Ji, I know but it is necessary as she won't be at ease till she sees him." She walked towards the ICU with Arjun following her. Gayatri took her near Jai and made her sit near his hand.
"Dad, wake up. See your doll is here. I'm a good girl. I finished my milk. Dadi papa is not waking." Tears filled in her eyes. She was feeling so helpless. She picked her up and pulled her into her embrace. Seeing her grandmother crying, she started dabbing her tears.
"No clying dadi. Papa will scold you. '' Kavya hugged her grandmother lovingly. Gayatri handed Kavya to Arjun and asked him to take them back home which he refused and sent them all back instead and waited in the hospital with his friend.
