“Gabe, you paid for these movie tickets,” Chiara said, biting her lower lip. "You spent your money on this. I can't just waste it. The movie is not even halfway done."
Gabe smiled. “It’s fine, Chiara," he said nonchalantly as if spending a thousand bucks for movie tickets is nothing to him. "Besides, I’m already hungry. The popcorn's not enough for me." he continued, pursing his lips. "Let’s just eat. Come on.”
Chiara let out another sigh as she followed Gabe.
“Sorry, Gabe,” she muttered to him after they leave the movie house.
“Nah. It’s fine, Chiara. I can always watch it again next time.” He smiled softly. “Where do you want to eat?” he asked looking around.
“You decide, Gabe,” she answered. "I'm not hungry yet."
Gabe pursed his lips. "Alright. Since I'm craving spaghetti, let's go there," he said, pointing at a fast food restaurant near them.
"Stay here. I"ll go order for us." he said after settling down on a vacant table.
Chiara just nodded at him. She then watched him as he lined on the counter. A few minutes later, he was back with a tray of food.
She looked at the tray of food he was holding. There were spaghetti, fried chicken and rice there. There were also burgers and fries.
"You ordered a lot," Chiara commented, pursing her lips.
Gabe just chuckled a bit. "Don't worry. You know how big my appetite is. I can finish this."
He placed a plate of spaghetti in front of her. "Here, Chiara. I know you said you're not hungry yet, but I'm sure you can't resist the spaghetti here."
Chiara gave him a small smile as she muttered a small thanks.
“Chiara, is there a problem?” Gabe asked her when he noticed she was suddenly silent.
Chiara bit her lower lip when she felt the corner of her eyes heating up.
“I just remembered Toby. His favorite food is spaghetti. In fact, he likes the spaghetti here so much."
She smiled bitterly while staring at the plate of spaghetti in front of her. “I really didn't know where I went wrong. I gave everything to him. Time, attention, understanding, and love. I loved him in all the ways that I know, Gabe. But still, he left me. How could he do that?” She bit her lower lip hard to stop herself from crying.
“Because he’s a big asshole,” Gabe said to her. “It’s not your fault he cheated on you, Chiara…”
“Miss… why are you crying?”
Chiara and Gabe both turned to a little girl who went to their table. Before she could answer her, she already turned to Gabe
“Did you know that God will get mad at you for making a girl cry? That’s bad, mister." She pointed her small fingers at Gabe. “You’re a bad guy. You made her cry."
Chiara gasped. “Baby… He didn't make me cry,” She corrected her. “He’s not the bad guy here.”
“Baby, do I look like a bad guy to you?” Gabe asked the little girl with pouted lips.
The girl shook her head while staring at Gabe. “Nope. You look like an angel. But daddy says looks can be deceiving.”
“Cray!”
A pretty woman in her thirties went to their table. She gave them an apologetic smile. “I’m so sorry bout my daughter,” she said. She held the little girl’s arm. “Cray, let’s go. Daddy’s already waiting for us.”
The kid bid them goodbye before coming with her mother.
“I like that kid,” Gabe said in an amused tone after the kid left with her mother. “Smart and very adorable.”
“I’m sorry,” Chiara said while drying the tears on her face.
Gabe turned to her with a soft expression on his face.“Why are you apologizing again?”
She pursed her lips. “Well, the kid thought that you’re the reason I’m crying.”
“Well then, I want you to do something for me, Chiara,” Gabe said, looking her straight in the eye. “Just promise me that this is the last time you’ll cry for that guy. Can you do that?”
Chiara slowly nodded at him.
“Now, let’s eat.” He smiled as he motioned the food in front of them. “I’m really starving now.”
After eating, they already left the mall. Chiara thought they were already going home, but then she didn't expect it when Gabe stopped his car in front of the church.
“What are we doing here?” she asked with a confused face.
“You know who can help you move on fast? It’s Him.” Gabe smiled at her as he guided her inside the chapel.
“My mother goes here every Sunday to attend mass,” Gabe muttered beside her. “Sometimes when Im not busy, I go here with her.”
Chiara bit her lower lip as she looked around the place.
“I didn't know when was the last time I went here to pray,” she admitted shyly. “I’m not really a religious person.”
For the past years, she always dedicated her free time to Toby. She had no time to do things for herself.
Gabe gave her an assuring smile. “Don’t worry, even if you don't regularly go here, I’m sure He will still listen to our prayers. He’s a forgivable God, Chiara.”
Both of them occupied the vacant pew and knelt to pray. chiara closed her eyes and prayed silently. when she opened her eyes, she immediately looked to her left. Her eyes met Gabe who also turned to her at the same time she looked at him. He smiled at her.
“Trust Him, Chiara. He won't give you a problem that you can't solve. Whatever you are going through right now, you’ll get through it. Just have faith in Him… and believe in yourself.”
She stared at him. He saved her life… Now, he prayed for her.
“Gabe, are you my angel or something?” She couldn't help but ask him.
Gabe shook his head and gave her a soft smile. “If I were your guardian angel, I wouldn't ever allow you to get hurt.”
