"I told you," Gabriel said with a proud smile on his face.
“Uh, what course are you taking?" she asked him during their meal. "You're from the College of Science, right?"
“Psychology,” Gabriel answered. “How about you?”
“Architecture,” she said. "Third year."
Gabriel nodded in awe. "I'm already in my third year, too," he said.
"The incident earlier, is it the first time that it happened to you?" Gabriel asked her after sipping on his drink.
Chiara nodded. "Yup, that was the first time it happened to me. That's why I was so shocked earlier. I wasn't able to act sooner."
“Be careful next time. There's a lot of bad people nowadays."
Chiara couldn't help but look at the man in front of her. He really has an angelic feature.
She blinked. Stop staring at him, Chiara.
Chiara looked away. That's when her eyes landed on his hand. She noticed the watch on his wrist.
“You’re looking at my watch. Are you still going somewhere?”
Chiara's eyes went back to his face. She pursed her lips. “Huh? No. It's just that I like the watch you're wearing. That's a smartwatch, right?"
“Oh, yeah. It's a smartwatch," Gabriel answered.
Chiara pushed her lips. “Uh, can I ask how much that watch cost?" She asked.
"Oh, you plan to buy one?" Gabriel asked her.
She nodded at him. "For my boyfriend," she said.
When Toby and her went to the mall last night, her boyfriend mentioned that he wanted a smartwatch for himself. That's why she decided to give him a smartwatch on his upcoming birthday.
Chiara saw how Gabriel was taken aback a little." Oh, you have a boyfriend?" he asked, slightly raising his brows at her.
She nodded at him, smiling. “Yup, it's his birthday on Saturday. I planned to give him a smartwatch as a gift."
Gabriel nodded. He then glanced at the watch in his hand before his eyes went back to her.
“I actually didn't know how much this cost. It was just given to me."
“Oh, by your girlfriend?” she couldn't help but ask.
Gabriel nodded and smiled. “It was my sister who gave me this. I don't have a girlfriend.”
"Really?" she asked in a curious tone. "You don't have a girlfriend?"
She couldn't help but examine his face. He was good-looking and so kind, that's why she didn't expect it when he said that he doesn't have any special someone in his life.
Gabriel shrugged his shoulders. "Well, I have strict parents, that's why."
Is he serious?
Her lips parted as she remained looking at him. "Uh, really?"
Gabriel chuckled. “I’m just kidding, Chiara. I'm sorry."
Her eyes slightly squinted at him. A thought was forming in her head.
“But I’m not gay, okay?” Gabriel said as if he managed to read what was on her mind. “I just haven't found the right girl yet.” he shrugged and smiled. "It may sound corny… but I want my first to be my last. So, I'm waiting for the one."
Chiara's eyes blinked as she stared at him in awe. Wow.
She couldn't believe that there's still someone like Gabriel nowadays. He was really an angel.
Whoever the girl he would love in the future, she was indeed lucky.
“THANK you for the treat,” Gabriel said after they left the fast food chain.
Chiara smiled at him. “You’re welcome.” He wasn't really just kind, he was also lovely to talk to.
“Are you going home now?” he asked.
She shook her head. “No. I still have something to buy upstairs."
“Oh, the smartwatch?” he asked.
Chiara nodded and smiled. “Then, I’ll go ahead?” he said.
“Okay,” she answered.
But instead of taking a step, they still remained looking at each other.
“Uh, do you want me to go with you?” he asked. "I can recommend a good brand."
Chiara pursed her lips. “If that's okay with you," she said.
"Of course, I have nothing to do anyway," he said, smiling at her. “Let’s go,” he said.
“Are you really sure it's fine, Gabriel?” she asked him shyly.
“Of course,” he immediately answered. “And please, just call me Gabe. Gabriel is too formal.”
She smiled. “Okay… Gabe.”
“There. Much better,” he said, satisfied.
“So, you and your boyfriend, how long have you been together?” Gabriel asked while riding the escalator to the third floor of the mall.
“Four years,” she answered with a proud smile.
He nodded at her. “Wow. Four years. That's too long. So, you’ve been together since high school?”
“Third-year high school.”
They were welcomed by the staff of the gadget store when they entered the shop.
Her lips parted in awe when she saw the price of the SmartWatch that Gabe was wearing. That watch cost twenty thousand pesos.
“Oh, that's too pricey, Gabe,” she said in a small voice. “My budget is only five thousand."
“Here, ma’am.”
The sales assistant showed her other designs that have a much cheaper value.
“Does your boyfriend have time for you?” Gabe asked her when the sales assistant processed her order. “I heard people give their special someone a watch if they want to ask for their time."
Chiara stilled. “Uh, well hrs always busy these days but I understand him. I know it was for our future."
“Your guy’s lucky with you.”
She smiled. "I think we're both lucky to have each other."
Instead of answering, Gabe remained looking at her. It was like he could read her mind.
She suddenly felt conscious. She looked away from him and decided to focus her eyes on the saleslady.
“Thank you, Gabe,” she said when they left the gadget store. On her hand was a paper bag of the SmartWatch that she bought for her boyfriend.
“You're welcome, Chiara,” he said with a kind smile.
Chiara waved at Gabe before she walked to the opposite side of the mall.
She was just able to take a few steps when she decided to look at him. She found him looking at her, too.
He still wasn't moving from where he was standing.
She smiled at him.
He smiled back. But then the smile on his lips suddenly faded when someone bumped into her. She almost fell down if only she wasn't able to recover immediately.
