She closed her eyes. “I…still love him. I can't just easily throw away the four years that we spent together with each other." When she opened her eyes, she was welcomed by Gabe's disappointed face.
“I thought you already realized your worth, Chiara. But it seems like I was wrong," Gabe said, shaking his head. "Do you really love that guy and you're willing to be a fool for him?" he asked in a disappointed tone.
“Wake up, Chiara. That man cheated on you. He fooled you. He hurt you. If that guy really loves you, he would never do anything that could cause you pain!"
Chiara was hurt because of Gabe's harsh words. "That's not true!" she shouted at him. “Toby loved me.”
“Well, he loved you in his own way, but certainly not the way you deserve to be loved," Gabe reasoned. He then sighed."And if that man decided to go back to you, do you think he'd never cheated on you again? He will do it again and again. Is that what you want, Chiara? You wanted to get fooled again?"
He looked at her and waited for her answer. Instead of answering, she decided to remain silent.
Gabe let out a deep sigh. “I guess I’ll go now.”
Chiara wanted to stop Gabe from going, but instead of doing that, she just gave him a small nod. "Thank you for walking me home, Gabe.”
“Good night, Chiara,” Gabe said in a small voice before he finally left.
“I noticed something, Chiara," Reese said to her while they were on duty that day. "Angel Gabriel no longer comes here," she said with pouty lips. "Did something happen to her?"
It's been three days since Chiara last saw Gabe. He hasn't shown himself to her ever since he left her apartment that night. She hadn't even received a single text message from her.
"Uh, I guess he's just busy," Chiara said to Reese. But deep inside, she knew it was her fault. He was nothing but a good friend to her. But what did she do?
“I wonder why your boyfriend never gets jealous of Gabe, Chiara," Reese muttered beside her.
Chiara pursed her lips as she turned to her. "I no longer have a boyfriend, Reese. Toby and I already broke up."
Reese widened her eyes in disbelief. “Really? Since when Chiara?”
Reese stilled. Then she gasped at her. “Was that the time when you were absent at work for days?" she asked.
Chiara nodded at her. "Yeah."
"Wow. Your ex is such an asshole," Reese angrily muttered after she told him what Toby did to her, how she saw him with another woman on his birthday.
She sadly smiled at her. “And I'm such a fool, Reese. I told myself that I'd already moved on from him. But deep inside, I still couldn't help but hope that he will still come back to me. That maybe there's still hope for us. That maybe we can still make it work."
“I understand you. It was just normal for people to be a fool for the ones they love. It was normal to still hope that even after what he did to you, you could still be together in the end. Especially when you were with him for a long time," Reese told her with a soft smile on her face.
“In your case, you were together for four years. And you've been friends even before you got together. It was really hard to let go of him. Especially when you remember all your memories together, you can't just easily let go of those memories. You can't just easily let go of him."
"But you know what? Time will come when you'll finally realize that that kind of men like your ex, they're not worth it. Time will come when you'll be thanking you for leaving you."
“Thank you, Reese," Chiara said, smiling at her.
Reese returned her smile. “You’re welcome. I’m just always here when you need to talk to someone.”
Chiara nodded at her. For years, her life just revolved around Toby. That's why when he left her, she thought she had become alone in life.
But Gabe was right. There were people who cared for her. She just failed to notice it.
After her shift ended, Chiara decided to go to the mall instead of going straight to her apartment.
While walking alone, her feet brought her to the arcade section of the mall. She then stilled when she noticed a familiar guy who was playing the claw machine. It was Toby. And he wasn't alone. Beside him was Lean, his new girlfriend. The one she cheated on her with.
Chiara's eyes went to the stuffed toy Toby was holding. He was all smiles while handing the Hello Kitty stuffed toy to the girl beside him.
Chiara felt like something pinched her heart while looking at them. At that moment, a sudden realization hit her.
Toby was happy with someone else. And it was also time for her to stop being miserable.
Chiara smiled bitterly as she stared at the last stuffed toy she put in the black garbage bag. She was finally letting go. Of everything... She was finally moving on. For real.
After what she witnessed last night, she felt like she finally realized how she was. Her eyes finally opened to the reality that she needed to move on to him for real.
When Toby and she turned to college, their relationship slowly changed. Chiara was the one always making an effort. But she chose to ignore all of those little things and still continue blindly loving him. She continued to make herself believe that their relationship was still strong although the truth is she's the only one holding on to it.
Gabe was right. She doesn’t deserve him.
And from this day on, she would finally put a stop to her foolishness.
Chiara looked around her apartment after removing all the things that would remind her of Toby.
Her apartment looked different. Don’t worry, Chiara. You'll get used to it, she promised herself.
Chiara sat on the sofa and took her cell phone. She let out a deep breath before she decided to type in a message for Gabe.
Gabe...I'm sorry.
