My tears fell once more. I had already expected Alexandros’ question but I didn’t expect all the things he said and did. He was a very private person. And yet, tonight, he invited all the people that I cared about. He also gave me a chance to meet all the important humans in his life.
So, how could he think that he was lacking or that he wasn’t deserving of anything? In this world, how many people were lucky enough to marry the ones they love?
“Alison?” Alexandros asked, looking nervous. “Please don’t tell me that I failed in my fourth attempt, too.”
The crowd laughed. Instead of answering, I also bent my knee and reached out for his lips. And when he kissed me back, I knew that he understood that there were no more words needed between us.
God… what would my life be without this wonderful man? When he released my lips, he put the ring on my finger. The crowd clapped their hands and cheered for us.
After a while, Alexandros stared at me. “Why?”
“I suddenly remembered something. Ali, did we already meet each other before the incident in Netherlands?”
“No,” I replied while shaking my head. “Except of course, if you removed my memories again,” I added in a teasing voice.
“It’s not that. You see, before Arameth became chaotic, I met a little girl. Her nickname is Ali, too. And thinking about it now, the kid looked like the younger version of you. Both of you have the same personalities. Both of you are unstoppable when you want to say something.”
My brows furrowed. “Really?”
“Give thanks with a grateful heart… do you happen to know that song?”
I nodded. “Yeah. That was one of my mother’s favorite worship songs. It has become my favorite, too.”
His forehead creased. “By chance, do you remember your uncle owning a motorbike when you were a little girl?”
“What? No. My mom is an only child. I don’t really have anyone in the family I could call an ‘uncle’. And no one in the family owns a motorbike since our parents are against it although Jasper wanted to buy one someday.”
Alexandros had become quiet afterwards but there was an emotion which crossed his eyes. It was quick but I managed to see it before it vanished. And those emotions, if I got them right, were fear and pain.
But… why?
(Alexandros)
“WHY are you here?” I asked Jeremiah while staring at his face. I tried to fight the growing pain in my chest upon seeing the mortal. When Alison and I were still in Tokyo, there was something very important which I saw in Alison’s future although some of the details were still unclear.
And now that I’m seeing Jeremiah face to face, some of my questions had been answered.
When I was still in Arameth, I was incapable of seeing the future but after my family gave their powers to me, whether I liked it or not, I automatically see the future of every human I meet the moment I look in their eyes. That was the reason why I tried my best to avoid having eye contact with them because I didn’t want to do anything that could change their fate.
I only wanted to see Alison’s future because I wanted to prove something but it was difficult to do that. However, when we were in Tokyo, I saw some of the things that would happen in her future.
Jeremiah shrugged. “I just realized that we haven’t had the chance to talk to each other after you and Alison became a couple. just wanted to congratulate you on your wedding. Alison wanted us to be friends. I think that’s possible because I also care about every important person in my best friend’s life. Besides, after you, two, get married, we’ll often see each other. But before that, I have two conditions.”
I smiled. Despite Jeremiah’s misgivings at first, I’m still fond of this mortal. And that would never change despite of the future I saw. He was like Alison. I know that Jeremiah was hurting, but he still exerted an effort to talk to me personally. He was man enough to face me.
And I admired Jeremiah more for that. But in case he didn’t come today, I would still have visited him because there were also a few important things I wished to say to him.
I cleared my throat. This was the second time that a mortal tried to negotiate with me. Alison was the first when she brought up that thirty-day challenge. Now it was Jeremiah. No wonder they were best friends.
“Go ahead, spill it out,” I said.
“First, I want you to know that Alison gets anxious very easily. Don’t just suddenly disappear again. Don’t just suddenly cut communications with her like what you did when you went missing for a week. Don’t ever make her worry again. Second, you can make her cry… only if it’s tears of joy. I won’t tolerate it if she would cry for something else other than that. Once that happens, I’ll be your enemy. And I’m telling you, I don’t give a damn whether everyone treats you as genius in the business industry.
“I don’t care who you are. If you hurt my best friend, I would hunt you down and I would mess with you twice as much, Alexandros. That’s all.”
I nodded. “It’s a deal then. But I also have a condition. It’s also easy to accomplish. I know you would comply but I need to hear you say it.”
“Fair enough. What is it?”
“I’m going to have a child one day, a daughter, to be accurate. Alison is going to name her Demi Alexandria, but the kid would like to be called the same as her mother whom she idolized a lot. That’s why when you’re together with the kid, please fulfill her wish and call her ‘Ali’ as well."
