Ch. 73Chapter 73

They were my parents, after all. I should be the one to understand them the most. But I could not do it.
I found out that my Father first brought my Mother and her family in Crono’s house. Even if he was the King, he was not allowed to casually bring anyone inside the Royal Castle. Bringing people in would require a process, a long and tedious one. Ageddon needed a solid plan before he could reveal Soo Mi to the public. He could only think of one person he could run to, one person whom he could entrust his secret with. And that was Crono.
Because of the two men’s solid friendship, Crono warmly welcomed the wounded humans in his home and treated them as family even if he knew it was risky. Crono’s wife and children also treated Soo Mi’s family kindly. But because Arameth’s atmosphere was different compared to the mortal world, Soo Mi, her father, and brother weakened. They kept vomiting blood every day and had other health complications because of the weather and because their bodies could not adjust properly with the magic in the atmosphere. And if that goes on, they would die.
Ageddon came up with a solution. And that was through the four most important crystals in our realm. Those crystals symbolized the air, fire, water, and earth. The power from those crystals were the main foundation of Arameth that was why it was a grave sin to steal them.
And yet, the King who should be the protector of the crystals, ended up stealing all of them.
Our ancestors hid the fire crystal under an active volcano, the water crystal was hid in the deepest part of the biggest ocean in the Kingdom, the earth crystal was located at the peak of the highest mountain in a far-away province, while the air crystal was in the territory of the ibaraseans. Ageddon endured all the hardships alone just to be able to acquire those crystals. The power of one crystal would have sufficed, it would have been enough to give protection to so many individuals.
The problem was that the crystal would not work alone. The four crystals needed to be together. Their essence needed to be extracted at the same time before they could function properly. Ageddon was severely wounded after taking those crystals in Crono’s house especially after the ibaraseans attacked him. The two men worked together to melt the crystals and turned them into potion and had Soo Mi and her family drink it.
Right after drinking the potion, the consequences of Ageddon’s actions surfaced immediately and he had failed to handle the aftermath. The volcano where he stole the crystal erupted, the water from the ocean that used to be the home of the water crystal rose which caused a major tsunami and wiped out the nearby provinces. The ibaraseans suddenly went wild and attacked the citizens. There had also been hurricanes and earthquakes. Those occurrences lasted for a day, but it killed thousands of lives.
If only Ageddon did not scatter the remaining potion in the air in his attempt to bring even one fourth of the power back to the nature, the tragedies would not cease. The people could only think of one thing after those tragedies took place. Every Armethian knew the location of each crystals. And because the places where those crystals were the ones that caused the tragedies, they all believed that the crystals were stolen.
Everybody exploded with fury because all of them had lost their homes while many had lost their families, friends, and loved ones. They were in desperate need for someone to blame for their loss and so they helped the authorities to investigate so they could punish the culprit as soon as possible.
And the investigation lead them to Crono’s bungalow. Because there were a few witnesses that said they had smelled human blood inside Crono’s house and had detected a unique energy there. And they had a hunch that ‘that’ energy came from the stolen crystals. Everything happened too fast after that. The Armethians surrounded Crono’s house.
At that time, Ageddon quickly hid the humans in a different place. But through a spell they performed, the people were still able to smell the traces of the mortals’ blood in Crono’s house. They had also found the bottle where Crono and Ageddon put the potion and had it examined. After only a few hours, the experts had proven that the traces left inside the bottle indeed came from the essence of the combined crystals.
Right there and then, the aggrieved parties did not need any more proofs. They had accused Crono of stealing the crystals to use them in order to make his ‘human’ wife and kids become powerful wizards to rule Arameth. They tagged his family as ‘humans’.
At that time, no one could vouch for Crono’s wife because the latter grew up in an orphanage. Nobody could testify for her identity as a pure Armethian. Crono was also accused for using dark arts so that the authorities would not be able to detect his sins right away. And one of them was bringing a human in Arameth because they believed that bringing a human, the weakest and the dumbest beings on Earth, would cause misfortunes in the entire Kingdom.
Crono had begged for his case to be reviewed several times, but it had been denied. Despite that, his lips remained sealed and did not betray his best friend. I was told that he had asked for Dad’s help so many times but Dad had also remained quiet.
He could not confess the truth because the woman that he loved was involved. He had to choose between the two of them.
And the one he did not choose suffered.
That night, Crono’s wife was killed right in front of him by the angry citizens. That was when Crono finally exploded and exposed the truth. But nobody believed him because he could not show a single evidence against the King.
