Ch. 18Chapter 18

And seeing the pregnant human whom I saw while I was on the road a while ago triggered that memory. It triggered the misery and the bitterness, too. They rushed right on the surface. It was too late when I realized that I was still driving. I immediately vanished from my motor bike before it could hit the lamp post.
In a snap of a finger, the motor bike that was now giving off fume disappeared. I was about to teleport back home when I caught a glimpse of a human who gives off an overpowering light. It still amazes me how everything seemed so dark and dull until the woman walked around, without any idea of how much she could affect creatures like me.
It’s been several years that all I could see was pure darkness even when it was daylight. There were times when I could see a little spark of light from the humans I would meet, but nothing can compare to the light that was coming straight from Alison Cabrera. She was like a goddess, carrying a bunch of stars within her and it was magical, considering that she was just a simple human being. The woman was so easy to spot on that’s why it was also so easy for her to attract the creatures who were aiming to steal a little bit of her light.
The downside was that Alison could attract even the beasts, the ones who were hungry for light and who wanted to devour all the light inside a person, inside Alison Cabrera. The human world was filled with variety of creatures that’s why the Armethian people threw me here. They said that this was the perfect place for a sinner like me. There were spirits, fallen angels, nephilims, and other creatures in the human world which the humans actually meet on a daily basis.
There was endless chaos everywhere in this world, chaos that no humans could see. And they were brought by the supernatural.
I put my hands on the side pockets of my jacket as I followed Alison who was currently being chased by some supernatural. And she was not even aware of it. I followed them even until they rode the bus. She was not safe with me. But she was not safe with anybody else either, and she will never be safe unless the light in her soul disappear. The two men immediately stop weaving magic when they caught me glaring at them.
In the human world, the more sins or crimes you have committed, the more superior you are to others. That’s why I hold the supreme power among the supernatural in this world because everybody in our circle knew the numerous crimes I had committed and the myriad of supernatural that I executed.
My sins alone could surpassed the sins of the fallen angels. There were also some venomous supernatural who wanted me to lead them in order to strengthen their power in their desire to dominate the human race because only a few would attempt to fight someone like me.
I smiled bitterly at the thought of it.
Not long after and the two wizards hastily went out of the bus. And I could have left with them, too. But I think I’ve lost the willpower to do it. There were actually a lot of vacant seats inside the bus and yet, I chose to sit beside Alison. She was facing the window that’s why she did not notice me yet, she looked like she was in a deep thought while listening to something through her earphones.
“If only you didn’t save me that night, I could have lived the rest of my life never knowing that someone like you exists. I would have stayed in Netherlands and silently wait for my death there. And I wouldn’t have been curious about you. That way, you would have lost one more monster following you. This is all your fault, Alison,” I whispered while staring at her. “But this is my fault, too.” I frowned and pressed my forehead. “I know better and yet, here I am, drawn into your light for the countless time, drawn into that one thing that I have no right to long for, while finding myself wanting to be near you again. I’m such a fool, an evil fool.”
After several minutes of convincing myself, I was finally able to force my body to cooperate with me. I was about to stand up to get down the bus when I suddenly felt Alison’s head on my shoulder. She had fallen asleep. Her car was coding that’s why she did not have a choice but to commute on the way to the hotel today. It was still early in the morning but her lovely face already looked exhausted.
I took a sharp breath and opted to stay seated.
“I told you before that you have to be on guard at all times. You don’t really listen, do you? You are so stubborn. You ignored my warning again. But I’m…” I cleared my throat before smiling faintly. “I’m glad you did. This way, I could have an excuse to stay with you a bit longer.”
I leaned on my chair and decided to close my eyes as well, hoping that I could take a nap.
“This will be the last time I would allow myself to get this close to you. This has to be the last time,” I whispered before I allowed myself to fall asleep.

Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2002
I REMAINED standing in the middle of the road even if I saw a car heading towards my direction. And whoever was behind the wheels was driving quite fast. Tonight, it was just me and the driver Everett on the road. I still have injuries in different parts of my body. Some were still bleeding until this very minute. But I did not try to run away from Everett’s car. It would be an honor to die in my best friend’s hands.
