“But if you wish for us to bury them first, I will ask my men to do that. We do not want you to think that we’re being a bad host, that’s why we’re considering your opinion. That was one of your rules, wasn’t it? Every visitor must be treated with utmost care and respect.”
“You still remember. I’m glad,” I replied sarcastically. “But I would really appreciate it better if you and the council will be the ones who will be buried along with them so they could rest in peace.”
The thing with the entrapment spell was that people from outside could hurt the ones inside but nobody knew that except for my previous soldiers who were all gone now. Only I can deactivate the power of the stones.
The council did not research first before using my creation. Because they only cared about the results, about the means to trap me and destroy me. But the likes of me were often the ones who used to determine the results. I used to go through over the details, from smallest to biggest.
When I felt like I’ve rested enough, I moved my left hand. I used the aquatic dragon’s power to surround the place with water. The stones were washed away in an instant. And then the fire dragon appeared and burned the council who tried to shoot arrows at my direction.
After a while, the other two dragons also showed up even if I didn’t summon them. They squeezed the enemies using their giant bodies. The dragons didn’t slay anyone, but their eyes were murderous.
But the council didn’t give up, they began chanting a very destructive spell that was very familiar to me. I had read it in a book once.
That black magic could wipe out an entire province. I swallowed hard. I suddenly felt torn. If I were to create a counter spell, I would lose majority of my strength. Once that happens, it would take a long time for me to create a portal.
My jaw clenched. That province was the biggest and most populated province in our realm. I cussed when I had no other choice. But before I could wield magic, the dragons started flying in the sky after the ancestors… appeared.
It was the first time they showed up after their death. Everyone knew their faces because the former king even built monuments for them so that we would always be reminded who our creators were as well as their contributions in our kingdom.
“YOU never learned. You have become out of control,” the ancestors said all at once. Their voices were calm, but I sensed danger behind their tones. All of them were wearing long, black cloaks.
From gray, the color of their eyes had changed, they became black. And only the ancestors could do that.
According to the book I read, the color of the ancestors’ eyes depends on what they feel. Gray meant that they were calm. Black either meant they were furious or there was a threat in the kingdom.
And according to others, the ancestors only show their black eyes when they wanted to punish someone.
For more than two hundred years, the ancestors didn’t show up, even during the time when the elemental crystals were stolen that’s why the people thought that they no longer had power. That was the reason why the citizens were no longer afraid to commit sins.
That’s why I believed that the ancestors came at the right time. When they motioned their hands, an incense appeared beside me. The incense was inside a vase which had the elemental dragons’ faces as its design.
The ancestors, also known as creators, were composed of six men and six women but they speak as one.
“All of you needs to learn your lesson. We will trap you inside a book and you will all die together when the time comes. However, if there is a person who will bravely open the book and is willing to enter this world to be with you, you will survive. You will live.
“But once that incense burns out and no one came to your rescue, then the entire realm shall burn and collapse. And you shall all burn along with it. In case, someone brave do come, the question is… are you all worth it for that person to stay? Should he or she decides to leave the realm one day, the entire realm shall still collapse. Right now, Alexandros Sormont is your only hope. Because it was him that we chose for this special task years ago.”
After the ancestors disappeared, the snow in the kingdom disappeared as well. But the dragons remained. The dragons crafted a spell that I had not encountered before. All of them released a smoke in the sky which revealed the truth about me and Crono. They also revealed my parents’ sins and how Arnav schemed with Crono.
At that time, I felt like it was the dragons’ way of telling me that despite my past and identity, they still chose me as their master. And when the dragons returned to my body, a rainbow appeared.
When the citizens saw that, they all cried while asking for forgiveness. They kneeled and begged me to rule the kingdom once again as if nothing happened, as if it was so easy to bring back our relationship. I didn’t exactly agree, but the citizens took my silence as a yes.
In the end, I had to take the lead, because no one else wanted to. Besides, we were all familiar with the book that the ancestors talked about. The ancestors had once removed a kingdom from the map of the supernatural beings after the citizens and rulers had become greedy.
They were also trapped in a book and nobody tried to open the book until their kingdom fell apart and everyone who lived there died.
Everything that took place in their lives were written in the book which drifted to our borders until one of the Armethians found it.
