Twenty-one

The next day began with a bright morning which didn't seem to look pleasant to both Lora and Austin as they reported to work. Lora collected the stock book from her desk as she slowly walked to Austin's office, calculating how she was going to meet and see him after all that transpired yesterday. She gave much thought before dashing a knock on the door.

"Lora."

The voice was Austin's, behind Lora. She was too sad to turn around but finally did when he called her name the second time.

"Here, some work."

She handed the book to him wearing an expressionless look on her face and as she made to leave...

"May I have a few minutes with you?"

He demanded calmly but Lora rebuffed, making a few steps away from him.

"Please."

She stopped.

"Let's meet at the canteen."

Lora said and walked passed him, heading for the canteen as Austin gladly followed.

FLORA

Mr. and Mrs. Blair sat behind Bill's table where he sat. It had been almost one week since their anniversary and they were so thankful to Bill for the services his company rendered.

Mrs. Blair tossed an envelope on the table as she smiled.

"Here's a cheque for $5.3m, use this to invest in ur business."

Bill's eyes widened at this and he became totally speechless. He knew the Blairs were going to pay him but he never expected this much money.

"Wow! Am so flattered, thanks."

Bill pretended to appreciate. He felt like emptying their accounts.

"We saw how nice you treated ur wife that day but that's not the main reason for this reward. For the first time in 28 years, your company's the only one that has rendered clean and fair service in a conducive environment." Mr. Blair said.

"Am pleased to hear that. You know I should be thanking you two for choosing our services."

Bill said.

"It's nothing, really."

"So when are you intending on going back to the United States?"

Bill asked and the couples looked at each other.

"My wife and I have decided to stay here for a while before going back to the states. So we're planning on buying a house here."

Mr. Blair said.

"A house?"

"Yea." The couple chorused.

Bill looked into a book like he was searching for something, as he smirked. *wow! this is the greatest opportunity to extort money from this Blair's, I shouldn't take it for granted * He thought.

AT THE CANTEEN

"What would you like to have Mr?

A waiter asked.

"We aren't ordering anything."

Austin told the waiter as she left. Then he faced Lora who had been keeping a moody face.

"I received the text you sent yesterday."

She said.

"Yea and I really meant those words, Lora. The only thing I need is for you to give me a chance to explain." He said.

Lora nodded slightly. "Go on."

"It all started when I was a home one Sunday morning. My phone rang and it was grandmother Isha calling."

FLASHBACKS

Phone rings...

Austin: Hello granny! (Smiling)

Isha: Oh my boy! How're you doing?

Austin: No, you tell me how you are doing first.

Isha: Son, I don't think I am okay. (She admitted)

Austin: Jeez! What's the problem granny? Are your legs aching again?

Isha: It would have been better if they were aching but this is more than a leg ache son. I need your help.

Austin: Okay, tell me.

Isha: A lot has been going on in this mansion where I work and I don't feel comfortable about it. It keeps bothering me, day and night. Ever since Madam Lora and sir Bill got married, their marriage knew no love all because of Bill. Bill is a sex maniac and a pervert. He rapes Lora each day that passes by even though she's in pain. Most times, he threatens her, ties and beat her up while he had rough sex with her.

Austin: What?!

Isha: Lora's in bondage son, she needs help. She needs to be taken out of this mess else she will die. As I talk to you now, she's in treatment.

Austin: That Bill of a man is such a devil. He's an animal! How could he do such a thing to his wife? Has she figured out the reason for his actions?

Isha: He has refused to state it

Austin: Oh my God! What's going to happen now?

Isha: I've got a plan and you're going to be involved in it Austin.

Austin : (pop-eyed) Granny! Me?

Isha: Yes you. You're going to make her happy and put a smile on her face again. I want her to feel her old self back like when she hadn't gotten married to her beast husband and I feel you're the right person for this job, son.

Austin : (shocked) How's this going to happen, granny? I don't think I can do this.

Isha: Austin I believe you can, my spirit tells me. Please, son, am begging you. That lady's gone through a lot in her short time of marriage with Bill. Her cry alone sickens me, I can't bear it as a mother...(Almost crying)

Austin: No no granny! Don't cry okay? I feel for her too, in that case, I will do it for you and the sake of Lora's condition.

Isha : (excitedly) Really?

Austin: Yes grandmother. So tell me, how do we start?

Isha: An old friend of mine runs this king's supermarket. He's urgently in need of a visual merchandiser cuz the former resigned due to some family problems. I told him that I have someone who could take the place of a visual merchandiser and that he's very skillful and creative. He didn't give much thought before considering my request so he asked that you resume tomorrow.

Austin: Jeez! So soon?

Isha: Yea, there's no time to waste Austin.

Austin: So what's with this supermarket?

Isha: Lora works there too. She works as a stock clerk. It will be very easy for you to carry out this plan but mind you, Bill's very dangerous. He shouldn't get to know about this, and Lora as well.

Austin: Okay, I get it now. I'll do as you say. Anything for you grandmother.

Isha: Thank you so much son, this is the only thing that would make me happy even if I have to die today. Love you son (smiling)

BACK TO REALITY

"And that was the main reason I agreed to work here, to save you, Lora. Remember the day I hung up on you when you didn't come to work, it was part of the plan, I was told that if ever I pretend to find out that you had a husband without you telling me, I should pretend to be mad at you so it wouldn't look suspicious. All the cares I offered, the treats, all was to make you happy again Lora."

"Oh my God!" Lora exclaimed "I never knew Nanny had a great plan for me and I... oh no! I was so stupid to have thought that you both fooled me."

She lowered her face in shame, crying.

"It's not your fault Lora and you know that. Anyone in your shoes would do the same."

Austin said.

"Everything you both did was for my happiness, to save me from the hands of Bill. But what did I do? I got disgusted and blamed you for something that's not a mistake. I got so mad!"

Lora cried out and Austin began to pat her arms.

"I tried to explain but you were missing the point."

"I am so sorry Austin, forgive me." She cried.

Austin held both her hands.

"You shouldn't cry over anything Lora. Take ur head up and listen to me." She raises her head "I am gonna fight Lora. I am gonna take revenge for you. I am gonna make Bill have the taste of his medicine. He's gonna pay for all the damages he's caused and the pain he's inflicted on you. He's gonna sweep the whole street of Nashville with his tongue till he begs for death to come and take him away before he's flung into prison as a criminal. Granny only asked me to make you smile but I have also taken this as part of my duty here.... to fight for you Lora and trust me, I will ensure that Bill spends the rest of his miserable and worthless life eating woods in jail cuz that's where he belongs!!!"

Naomi's POV

Naomi was just returning from the waybill office when she found Lora and Austin in the canteen again so it occurred to her that they were finally in a relationship. She got into her office a look of jealousy flitted all over her face. She had made up her mind that she would give up since Austin wasn't looking her way after all she did to get his attention. But inwardly, she wanted to make life miserable for Lora by snatching her man like she had said cuz she couldn't bear to see them happy together.

The moment Naomi turned to face work on her system, her glance caught Lora's phone that had been laying on the table. She had forgotten to take it along cuz of the depression she was feeling. Naomi walked slowly towards the table and picked up the phone. *There must be something in here since she's seeing Austin* she thought and without taking much time, she turned it on, luckily, there wasn't any security lock attached to it so it was very easy for her to have access to it.

The first place she went to was her contact list where she found Bill's and Austin's numbers. The one of Austin's wasn't saved with his name but rather a symbol and before she did anything, she peeped out of the door and shutters to be sure that no one was coming.

Smartly and immediately, she reached for her phone and inputted their numbers into her phone. Then she switched to the messaging app as she went through it. A Series of text messages lined up but the one Austin sent to her yesterday was the first on the list so she opened it and began to read through. Her mouth remained agape after reading the message so she knew this was Austin's writeup.

"Interesting!" She smirked smartly, she screenshot the text and forwarded it to her phone then deleted the screenshot from Lora's so she wouldn't see it. She felt this was a way to deal with Lora.

"Bravo Naomi bravo! No one knows you're this smart. And you Lora, you've crossed your limits by taking my man away from me, you won... but watch as I forward this text to ur dear husband, Bill and await an upcoming clash in ur home! Then you'll get to know the stuff I am made of!"
